I'm not sure the Charlene version is well-known enough to benefit massively from a performance is all - I suppose if it is performed more in Charlene's style than The Calling's it could aid her more though. Maybe it's just wishful thinking because I really want the original version to be high in the chart again (although it'll be top 30 this week anyway :P)

I really do prefer the original, it's fantastic and brings back so many memories of childhood, I just wish the original does better in the charts than the cover, it lacks a lot compared to The Calling.

01. Rihanna & Calvin Harris - We Found Love 100%

02. Gym Class Heroes - Stereo Hearts 69.4%

03. Maroon 5 - Moves Like Jagger 68.3% (Looks Like Stereo Hearts will peak at #03 this week)

04. Christina Perri - Jar Of Hearts 54.7%

05. Charlene Soraia - Wherever You Will Go 50.8%

10. Matt Cardle - Run For Your Life 24.6%

11. Calvin Harris - Feel So Close 22.7%

I like Charlene's version, butthen again I barely knew the original. For the same reason I preferred the Scissor Sisters version of Comfortably Numb to PF's.

It can be argued that no cover version can match the creative spark & intent of the original song, but ISTM it helps if the cover comes a long time after the original, so that the current generation of music buyers do not know/remember it, and thus draw negative comparisons.

Combined, Maroon 5 will already be no.2 with the other version of MLJ being at no.124.

Guess what we missed...

The first Xmas song to chart - the Pogues & Kirsty McColl at #951 on Monday!

Steps update;

One For Sorrow #139

It's The Way You Make Me Feel #141

5,6,7,8 #151

Deeper Shade Of Blue #162

Tragedy #229

Better Best Forgotten #279

Last Thing On My Mind #283

Stomp #296

Love's Got A Hold On My Heart #346

Chain Reaction #361

Summer Of Love #380

Say You'll Be Mine #416

I Know Him So Well #444

Better The Devil You Know #518

After The Love Has Gone #543

Heartbeat #561

Here and Now/You'll Be Sorry proving what a useless single release it was by neither showing up...likewise When I Said Goodbye

Amazing to see One For Sorrow out in front without any performance of it, 59p and a slot on a X Factor please :P

Quick question to those in the know, will the sales for both Tragedy and Heartbeat this week be added to the overall total of the Heartbeat/Tragedy single or will only Heartbeat's sales be added to that with Tragedy's resulting in a separate (albeit, low) entry a la that Leona Lewis double a-side in 2008?

Guess what we missed...

As usual then :D Hopefully it can remain the highest Xmas song for the whole season this time instead of briefly dropping behind Mariah then re-overtaking in the last few weeks, as it did last year.

Did you hear we have a new version of All I Want For Christmas this year featuring Justin Bieber to look forward to?

I did hear that, yes. I highly doubt it'll come close to troubling the top 40 considering Justin's actual singles have had trouble doing that. hoping for 'Mistletoe' to graciously flop here although it'll probably go straight to #1 on US iTunes  Bieber's Christmas album should rightfully bomb here.

To credit the Bieber, I didn't know it was possible to make AIWFCIY any worse. :D

I always thought that Maria Carey managed to do what should be impossible, that is managing to make a Christmas song sound bland.

And you say this version is *worse*? <shudder>

The Wanted and Lana for the T2 - I don't think so. Even with an X-Factor performance 'Lose My Mind' only peaked at #19 in 2010, I see 'Lightning' going T5 at best - don't see it as much of a #1 contender. As for Lana, it could be a surprise hit - but the majority of sales will be the complete EP; I see it peaking in the lower half of the T10. Finally, Kelly Clarkson has been and gone, and the new single is pretty weak in my opinion - T10 would be nice, but I don't even see that happening.

T5 next week will have Rihanna at #1, then Maroon 5, Gym Class Heroes, The Wanted and Charlene.

I really can't see Lana Del Rey being anything less than a huge top three smash at this point. Also, Lose My Mind was from an already released album and Lightning is brand new, it's also definitely going top three imo.
Lose My Mind was a post-album release, Lightning isn't. Plus The Wanted are a much more established name now. I can't see Lightning missing #1.

The Wanted have no. 1 in the bag although I don't think it's that bad. It's a massive step up from the woeful 'Heart Vacancy' that was churned out this time last year. :puke: As Bré has rightly pointed out, they're much more established - the type of act who could release a cover of 'Three Minutes Silence' and it'd sell near 100k first week.

Now imagine that being performed on The X Factor!!! :D

As for Lana Del Rey I was gobsmacked and rather excited seeing 'Video Games' at #9 in the Albums/Pre-Orders chart. I really hope this track does well next week. It's my new 'Bad Romance' so I'm going to be very interested in seeing how this performs in the coming weeks. Hope it doesn't enter high and just collapses in week 2.

Whilst I don't mind 'Mr Know It All' by Kelly Clarkson, it sounds far too similar to 'Just The Way You Are' but alas if it's been pushed back a week to co-incide with its X Factor performance, chances are Kelly will be #1 in a fortnight. Urgh!!! Looks like we're entering another chain of one week wonders then. Joy!!! :(

MKIA hasn't been pushed back AFAIA, it's just getting an XF performance a week too late.

Skim read that as MIKA and for a second was slightly confused

Ive heard the x factor performers are the wanted and katy perry this week and Kelly Clarkson Bruno Mars and Professor Green & Emeli Sande (singing read all about it)

I was thinking, it'd be funny if Snoop Dogg/Wiz Khalifa shot straight up to #1 on US iTunes (which they've managed already now), then Drake/Nicki Minaj did the day after, then Justin Bieber did the day after that. Thing is, they'll all probably drop out of the top 50 within a month aswell.

I'm confused. So you've heard that there's 3 performers, next week?

I can't see Read All About It being performed unfortunately. :(

Pro Green is Labrinth's main opposition, Simon is smarter than that I think.

Just heard the remix of Rebecca Fergusons' single and I think she will blow up.

Pre-Order Update:

16th October-Lana at 7, The Wanted at 72

23rd October-Labrinth at 30, Professor Green at 46

30th October-Cher Lloyd at 94, Danza Kuduro at 157
