October 11, 201113 yr "All The Lovers" bores me to tears, sorry Regina. Maybe "Dancing On My Own" may be more universally liked than "With Every Heartbeat" simply because it's not been so overexposed? I really didn't get the hype with "Titanium" when I heard it, at all. And "Stan" really doesn't deserve any criticism but we have Vidcapper, so it's buggered. As is "Rapper's Delight" by the Sugarhill Gang, unfortunately. I remember vidcapper saying that it was the only eminem song he liked, although it was probably down to dido rather than eminem
October 11, 201113 yr oh sorry, I hate LTWYL :P Rihanna sounds awful on that chorus - however I love Stan and Lose Yourself, and would say they are pretty close to universal acclaim (well apart from Vidcapper :P )
October 11, 201113 yr Since all rap is going to be invalidated if we include vidcapper, we have to use some sort of discretion I think. The LIST OF SONGS THAT ARE ALMOST UNIVERSALLY LIKED!! :cheer: (Also, I'd have said things like My Immortal if I didn't know that Bré vehemently hated it, but I can't think of anyone else who does. I know there's another song that Bré hates that everyone else likes (not another Evanescence or Maroon 5, though) but I can't think of it.) And Lose Yourself as well, can't believe I didn't think of that one.

And guys, Simon Cowell is entitled to his own opinion about With Every Heartbeat. :drama: No need to slate him and call him an idiot. I remember there was a similar response to this when Example said he thought On the Floor was generic. Not everybody has to like every female-led europop song. Jeez. I bet nobody here would complain if Lady Gaga said she hated Carry Out.

Ha, there are quite a few of those I think but I'd assume you're thinking of 'Don't Speak', as that's the one that I get the worst reaction from when I say that I hate it (and I hate it a LOT, my second least favourite song of all time) and it's come up in conversation a few times on here :P By the way, when did you become a mod? I'm waiting for a spot to open up for chart mod-ship so I can apply for it, even if only to get rid of the stupid message I get from editing my posts. (But also because I'd like to be a chart mod ) Edited October 11, 201113 yr by Bré
October 11, 201113 yr Lose Yourself IS liked on this forum. It did very well in the Record of the Decade game that was run by RabbitFurCoat on this very board and finished not even a month ago!!! I can't remember where it came but I'm pretty sure it was in the top 50. I don't understand where this perception that it's disliked has come from. Not every non-female song is hated on this board, you know. Eminem is pretty much the only rapper who gets any acclaim here, to be honest. And as for Simon Cowell - he's entitled to his opinion, yes, but likewise I can't take the opinion of someone who has been behind some of the worst atrocities ever aimed into the music charts in the last two decades seriously. To start with With Every Heartbeat has a more emotive, engaging vocal and a more interesting structure than any song he has anything to do with in his entire career, that's for sure :drama: Also, maybe I'm taking the title too literally, but to me "universally" means it's a song that almost EVERYONE has to know for starters, which would instantly rule out the likes of Titanium and My Immortal to me. (But also because I'd like to be a chart mod ) Oh yes, Don't Speak as well. Not sure what it was then. Might have been a very well liked M5 song or something then. Doesn't matter anyway. I became a mod of the Pop forum about 3 weeks ago or so. So I've been looking over your shoulder whenever you've been posting in there. :P I'd guess chart modship would be quite a LOT more work, though. But you'd definitely be good at the job, I think, if a position ever opens up.

Chasing Cars?
October 11, 201113 yr In response to some mentions in this thread, I absolutely detest 'Don't Stop Me Now' [Queen] & 'Beat It' [Jacko]. EUGH. Two of the worst songs ever made.
October 11, 201113 yr I can't bear 'Don't Stop Me Now', however I always go wild to it if I hear it out (and am REALLY drunk). It's hard for songs to be "universally" liked if people have an immense hatred of whatever genre a certain song is (hi Vidcapper), but this topic has been one of the most interesting reads in this forum for a while. October 11, 201113 yr Do you like 'Stan' as well? I'd say that's more of a 'universally liked' song than Love The Way You Lie. Nope. That's an Eminem song with the odd bit of Dido thrown in to provide a bit that's vaguely tolerable. For me, Rihanna is one of those artists who, like Lady GaGa, can come up with something pretty good or something terrible or, indeed, something in between.

Oh yeah definitely  I can't deny singing along to it if I'm out and I hear it playing, but just the song itself is awful. :(

Trust me, if normal people did that Record of the Decade game, Lose Yourself would've been top 3, without a doubt, maybe even #1. It's very hated on here compared to in real life. I don't think I looked at the results of that to be honest (although I really should do, because I voted in it, but I probably won't get round to it ), and sure, top 50 is good, but at the end of the day, this forum isn't very representatitve of how much a song is liked really. That song is all about the lyrics, rhymes and the beat, but people on here need a melody (and a colourful music video involving dance routines) to consider a song good apparently, and Lose Yourself doesn't have a melody (and certainly no dance routines in the music video ). You can't possibly hate Don't Speak (or anything else featuring Gwen Stefani) as much as I do. You can't hate Hollaback Girl, surely!?!?! :o It's EPIC! Although I can't mention it, because a lot of people actually do hate this in real life (and I assume on here aswell, since this song isn't the sort of thing that'd be liked on here (again, no melody)). October 12, 201113 yr Author Yeah, I remember that comment now you mention it (it was Rachel Hylton who sung it, btw). This is the man who said once on Pop Idol that Daniel Bedingfield's If You're Not The One is the greatest pop song of modern times though  Those songs he gives (gave) to the likes of Robson & Jerome, Susan Boyle and Westlife to cover on their albums pretty much encapsulate his music taste... awful, bland, sappy crap. Anyway, I echo With Every Heartbeat as Simon Cowell doesn't count as a valid music opinion. I would also add Natalie Imbruglia - Torn and The Human League - Don't You Want Me as songs which have reached a certain level of ubiquity but never seem to have become disliked with it. "Don't You Want Me" is a really good shout actually, amazing song. Also "Vienna" by Ultravox, "Blue Monday" by New Order and (shock horror for no one saying this so far) "Love Will Tear Us Apart".

October 12, 201113 yr I find it very amusing that people are suggesting songs that practically no one has heard (Titanium, Dancing on My Own) as universally liked I thought this would be a thread of the objectively best songs throughout the rock era, not the most harmless new dance tracks. Surely, some of newer tracks will become classics and universally liked songs but it takes at least a couple years. I'd say Gaga's Bad Romance is about to become valid as we speak. Only one has said anything about The Beatles... Hey Jude and Eleanor Rigby must be there.. And also Unchained Melody is a song nobody has ever said a bad word about. Nothing Compares 2 U, a cover though... There are loads. Torn is a good one from the 90s even though it's a cover as well. Edited October 12, 201113 yr by SKOB

October 12, 201113 yr "Don't You Want Me" is a really good shout actually, amazing song. Can't stand that song now, and wasn't even keen on it at the time. IIRC when I was in the 6th form, there was only one song that virtually all of my friends liked : Sky - Toccata http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cyg5l9ZPFag Also, Toni Basil - Mickey was pretty popular too.
