I wouldn't describe any of Foo Fighters' songs as universally liked, surely Dave's voice is far too marmite for that?

My favourite FF song remains 'The Pretender' and I doubt they'll ever beat that.

His voice has been described as pretty generic by a lot!

"BuzzJackians".

On a hip hop forum, they wouldn't accept Tragedy as a classic, because most of them would live in the US, so probably wouldn't know the Steps version. :P

Although, come to think of it, that might be why some of you might think I'm weird saying this about Black and Yellow. Living in the UK, you might not really know the cultural impact the song has had in the US. MANIAC lives in the US, so I think he knows what I mean.

This is a chart forum, but the music tastes on here clearly do not represent the music tastes of the general public. Party Rock Anthem is one of the most loved songs of the year, but it's hated on here, for example.

Not so. I like it.

Sorry for mentioning Bad Romance

Party Rock Anthem is not universally liked but it might become one in the future just like No Limit and Mr. Vain from the nineties have become.

(Also, I'd have said things like My Immortal if I didn't know that Bré vehemently hated it, but I can't think of anyone else who does. I know there's another song that Bré hates that everyone else likes (not another Evanescence or Maroon 5, though) but I can't think of it.)

Maybe you were thinking of 'Teenage Dirtbag'? I've been trying to brainstorm this for a while.

Groovejet definitely isn't one, a lot of people on this board seem to dislike it. I can't fathom why because it really is fantastic.

Because of the lyrics, the very dated production, and most of all Sophie Ellis-Bextor's singing! Who told her she could sing?

That too. I mean, if I was thinking of that originally, I would have remembered, it's one of my favourite songs ever. But that's a good call for the 'everyone except Bré*' list. :P

I have two possibilities now after having done a bit of research, because I remember it being talked about in the iTunes thread. The one I was thinking of originally was either Broken Strings (because I think it may have been one of those that constantly gets reduced to 59p), or some really recent release that wouldn't fit in this thread.

*DISCLAIMER: And probably a few others as well. Covering my bases here. ^_^

Broken Strings is indeed another one - as I say there are quite a few  It's odd since I seem to be the only person on the site who holds 'I Won't Let You Go' in very high regard!

It's been reduced to 59p on at least three separate occasions now, possibly even four. Pisses me off. The same has happened with both of Evanescence's songs, they seem to get reduced every time there's reductions and they ALWAYS rechart, BMTL is even back in the top 40 again now - why didn't you get it the last time it was 59p?!

If no-one has already mentioned Dire Straits-Sultans of Swing...

Dire Straits are my mum's favourite band and she hates 'Sultans Of Swing' with a passion. 'Romeo And Juliet' is a better example of a universally-liked Dire Straits song I'd say.

Tis, a lot more people will know of it (including me) because of The Killers' cover as well.

Are you serious? Several people on this site hate that song.

I'd say the emoticon is a fairly obvious sign that he wasn't serious...
Really? Wow. The only thing it has going for it is that it's not 'How To Save A Life'.

I was going to say that I don't know anybody who dislikes that either. Both songs are incredibly popular at my school and amongst the people I know. They're sort of like "student anthems", their lyrics are always quoted on Facebook for example.

Shame nothing The Fray have done since comes close to the quality of those two. :(

ALSO:

According to Youtube, Black and Yellow is more universally "liked" than Bad Romance!! (take this with a pinch of salt, obviously ).

I do. Sorry for the late response. :P

Black and Yellow was actually pretty much unavoidable during the 2010-2011 winter season, on radio, at parties, even at school dances. Personally, I'm always going to remember driving around to that song in my friends cramped little car and sliding on ice at a turn.

On the other hand, as you said, I have absolutely no idea of the Steps version of Tragedy. It really does depend regionally.

A bit more on-topic, I agree about those Fray songs, and during the 2005-2007 period when they were huge, I lived in Belgium, and I can say that they were pretty much universally loved both here and overseas.

Also, speaking of that wonderful period, does anyone truly hate SexyBack or Hips Don't Lie? Two of my all-time favorites.
