Exactly! They are only "unlucky" in context - well in the Spice Girls case anyway. None of The Saturdays' #2s were unlucky. They just fizzled out. If anything, they were lucky #2s.

I'd say 'Just Can't Get Enough' could be considered unlucky as that was midweek #1. 'Forever Is Over' however only kept their #2 position by the skin of its teeth.

Just Give Me A Reason is the obvious inclusion from the time period since this thread was last updated.

This is probably the unluckiest Number 2 of this year seeing as it was a one off performance from Ant and Dec, who are far from musicians these days, that stopped it.

The best-selling #2 of each year:

2000: Baha Men - Who Let the Dogs Out?

2001: Wheatus - Teenage Dirtbag

2002: Shakira - Whenever, Wherever

2003: The Darkness - Christmas Time

2004: Kelis - Milkshake (Anastacia outsold her peaking at #3)

2005: Daniel Powter - Bad Day

2006: Infernal - From Paris to Berlin

2007: Take That - Rule the World

2008: Nickelback - Rockstar

2009: La Roux - In For the Kill

2010: Eminem - Love the Way You Lie

2011: Maroon 5 - Moves Like Jagger

2012: Nicki Minaj - Starships :puke:

2013: Passenger - Let Her Go

2014: Avicii - Hey Brother

2 obvious candidates right now are:

Wil.I.Am - Feelin Myself

Zedd ft Hayley Williams - Stay the night

How? Zedd's sales were not sufficient for #1 in any week of this year so far and will.i.am's would only have got him to #1 if he released 2 weeks later (by which time his sales would likely have been lower anyway as the song would be older).

I agree, there's nothing unlucky about either of those two releases they didn't get to #1 because they weren't popular enough. That is all.
Yeah your right. I guess I was just listing the two that failed to make no.1 when at the start of the week had been in front of the race and then dropped therefore I considered them unlucky but yeah it's all irrelevant to this thread. Sorry.

Apology accepted.
Geri Halliwell - Look At Me (#2 in the UK charts, with 142,153 copies sold in its first week, just 700 copies behind Boyzone at #1).

Famous story. Boyzone had two different versions of their single and many fans bought both versions.

More than double purchased "Look At Me"?

Spice Girls, Stop :(

And Victoria Beckham, possiblyt the most unlucky ever, Out Of Your Mind :snif:

Also, Shakira Whenever Wherever

Urgh, are you joking??

That was the LUCKIEST number 2 of all time, imagine the EMBARRASSMENT having that at no.1?

Would be as embarrassin as Feelin Myself gettin there!

Edited by Michael!

I do really think PJ + Duncan getting there instead is widely considered a bigger embarrassment moreso than if 'Just Give Me A Reason' had got there...

No. The first song is actually good, even if comedic. And they can talk their lyrics well enough, which is what people who can't sing should do, so there's no problem?

Sugababes - Get Sexy, it was completely stolen!
Soulja Boy Tell'Em - Crank That (Soulja Boy)

If The X Factor wasn't around this would have been a UK number 1.

I guess that's one good reason to be thankful for that show's existence.
