The juggernaut that was Ebeneezer Goode was the better song by far.

I have to agree with that for sure.

Omi's is going to be way more unlucky. I wouldn't say Jealous was unlucky, more unfortunate.

I don't think so. Wiz Khalifa is going to be #1 on the overall chart, sales chart & streaming chart, so OMI is going to be beaten convincingly whichever way you look at it.

Whilst that's true, if Omi released just one week earlier, it would've been #1 with EASE. So I think it will qualify.

What's the difference? As far as I can tell, those two words are virtual synonyms

I don't really think Nick Jonas is unlucky. It's not like the song is any good.

I agree that the song isn't any good. However, it is unlucky in the sense that it is demonstrably the highest seller of the week.

You could argue that 'Jealous' was lucky as it probably wouldn't have debuted at #2 at all had it not been a low sales week.

Because chart success is based on quality?...

I agree with Liam that 'Jealous' was probably more lucky than unlucky! I suppose it's too early to mention 'Cheerleader' but that's been an expected smash for months, potentially losing out to a song that just blew up in the past week or so.

Rihanna has a LOOOOOONNNNGGGGG list of unlucky #2....

Pon De Replay

SOS

Unfaithful

Russian Roulette

Rude Boy

Live Your Life

Love The Way You Lie

The fact that she could be easily walking with 15 #1s at this point already.... (even more coz FourFiveSeconds could've been #1 too and Dont Stop The Music and Disturbia and even S&M)

I was being a bit tongue-in-cheek when I mentioned the Nick Jonas song not being good. I mean, I do genuinely think that but I know that's not really what would make it lucky or unlucky. I don't think it's the sort of song that will seem in retrospect like it should have been a Number One though, it seems like the sort of song that does well because it's by an ex-boyband singer who likes taking his shirt off, and it happened to come out in a fairly quiet week.

I understand the point people are making about it being denied by streaming but at the end of the day the sales have been done that way for months now, and they already were in his home country. The song was available to stream, it simply proved less popular in that format than something else.

Mess love the way you lie missed the #1 spot...

The only one I would say out of the Rihanna list to be unlucky is 'Love The Way You Lie', being beaten by two tracks less popular than it. The rest I would say were beaten fair and square?

'Unfaithful' was stuck behind McFly's cover of 'Don't Stop Me Now' which spent 5 weeks in the Top 40 so I guess that one could count too.

I think Rihanna's unlucky to have so many #2 records but, if you look at the cases individually, they did generally lose out fairly.

But you also have to look at the other side of the coin, how many of her number ones were, under the same criteria, "lucky"

"Umbrella" for sure :)

New Order - Blue Monday was the biggest selling 12" single. There was no 7" release.
