Azealia Banks, Dot Rotten and Frank Ocean for the top 3 even though the latter should really be lumped in with the rest of Odd Future.

Oh, Skrillex didn't win. Surprised. No idea who will win now, Skrillex was the only obvious frontrunner IMO :o

Glad Skrillex didn't come anywhere near the top (well, 4th is still not bad).

Azealia for the win :cheer:

I think Michael Kiwanuka has a good chance of winning now, with Azealia Banks and StooShe maybe rounding out the Top 3

C'mon Dot Rotten!

Frank Ocean is great, but I'm really liking The Weeknd. Def. destined for huge things. I can see him being the next Usher.

Azaelia Banks seems to 'hard' for mainstream success. DJs will love it, not sure about everyone else. 212 sounds a 90s B-list while L8R could have come from the early 00s urban domination era. Perhaps her sound would be better recieved in the US with their rap scene.

A$AP Rocky. Gross. Unrealistic fantasies of the underclass. Using outdated rapper stereotypes. Again, it seems straight of the early 00s. Tough guy rap hasn't been that popular here for years. Did Westwood nominate this crap?

Dot Rotten is pretty decent going by Keep it on A Low. Definitely more in line with modern popular rap. I can see him following Tinie and Labrinth and doing very well for himself as long as he remembers that the music industry isn't his urban demographic. He needs to cross over to suburbia. Keep it on a Low does that.

Dry the River in the Mumford slot. So dreary. I can't see it catching on.

Flux Pavillion are an electronic mess. Its too hard of a dance outfit to crossover. Could be a future in production but not as a headline act.

Success is going to be 50/50 for Frank Ocean. He definitely has a future in music but whether that is mainstream or relegated to MTV Base only I'm not sure. Swim Good is decent enough but not spectacular.

Jamie N Commons doing Nick Drake by Johnny Cash. Can't see it crossing over really but he's really quite good. He has the power in his songs Dry the River don't.

Lianne La Havas, also getting promoted by MTV. Probably my favourite of this year's entrants. She was touring with Bon Iver recently, so I don't see her as a great singles artist but I would like her to get a hit album under her belt.

Michael Kiwanuka is also getting the MTV push this year. Wouldn't put money on him following up the advert song. Screams 'This year's Newton Faulkner'.

Niki & The Dove, a charting album probably but again will not bother the singles chart.

Ren Harvieu is a specialist taste, again, she is not going to bother the singles chart. Will probably get a charting album like other throwback sounds.

Skrillex are going to be huge this year but if my listening is anything to go by they have tunes with elements of beauty and then proceed to destroy them. Its like the sound of a computer screaming in pain. Were these guys producing the Black Eyed Peas last album? Rock Your Body all the time, everytime.

Spector don't seem much different to Foals or Bombay Bicycle Club. Limited success I think, a decent album may come out of it.

Stooshe are a chart plague waiting to happen. Stop talking ladies, just sing. They are great when they drop the 'innit' 'ghetto' affectations. This is Jessie J's fault :P

Lianne La Havas for me please

Skrillex is one person :P

I hope he makes more commercial music, because I can't see the music he makes at the moment (Scary Monsters And Nice Sprites, First Of The Year etc.) really crossover to the mainstream public and get good airplay. :( He needs to be massive, I hope he is but it's not a certainty

Blame the few uninspired critics who voted for him! It's the same reason Gaga finished 6th in her year...

Nick Grimshaw and Annie Mac have both been playing 'I'm His Girl' by Friends this week - hopefully as an indication that they'll have future support from Radio 1 - the band have a really great sound, you can't go wrong with a female lead vocalist.

Agree that Dry the River are Mumford & Sons-ish, so they'll most likely remain low key regardless of a top 3 sound of 2012 placing - 'No Rest' is a really good song though, hopefully the album to follow will sound similar.

Good to see Niki & The Dove, can't see them doing much though... Personally I'm hoping for a top 3 of:

01 Azealia Banks

02 StooShe

03 Lianne La Havas

But I'd be happy with Michael Kiwanuka or Dot Rotten sneaking in too.

This really, I expect a few of the critics were conscious that he has already done very well (even if that's not yet transferred into a commercial sense) and that may have stopped them voting him.

His mother must have known he'd be a musician! :P

I couldn't find anything by Friends to judge, considering the name youtube was no help.

I agree they have a great sound, not entirely commercial though.

Thanks, and by clicking through I can see more. Suck it youtube search function.

Not sure about them to be honest. I think its a style thing. I like the cover of 'My Boo' well enough though.

I think Azealia is a surefire number 1 now. Friends and Spector would make a great top 3 but about as far from likely as possible.

Top 3 will be Dot Rotten, Azealia Banks and Michael Kiwunuka (I hope!) ^_^

Surprised Skrillex didn't even make the Top 3, easily the best thing on the list! :o
