Excellent. Princess of China is one of their worst ever songs, diabolical.

yeah, I just don't really see the fuss with it, disappointing from them - I would love Hurts Like Heaven to get a release, but Charlie Brown is a pretty good choice

They had posted a news item last Sunday declaring Rihanna longest no1 of the year beating adele with 6 weeks. This mis count doesn't seem to have filtered itself out completely yet ;-s
According to the Radio Times Coldplay are on Graham Norton on 9 December when they will "perform their single Charlie Brown".

Really? I'm certain they confirmed Princess Of China as the third single a good month ago or so. They must have changed their minds. Charlie Brown is easily the best choice remaining if they don't want to release POC but they really do need to release it as the fourth single, it's too big a potential hit to be snubbed as a single choice.

EDIT: Upon Googling it turns out POC's confirmation as a single was just a mistake from Billboard.

That article was worded poorly - they mean Rihanna has had the most weeks at #1 on the singles chart in 2011, not specifically WFL (What's My Name? had a week at the start of the year as well). Adele still trounces Rihanna counting both charts though :P

Its maybe a good idea not to isolate their fans by releasing the rir song yet - a 4th single with her on it and a big video could keep the album alive into 2012 though!!

Maximising Christmas period sales is surely much more important than keeping the album high in the charts in 2012 though? I can't see Charlie Brown doing much as a single really (it has more single potential than anything else on the album bar POC but still not much) and while it will help the album's Xmas sales a bit I really think Princess Of China would both be a bigger hit itself and help the album out more.

Hopefully POC will be a decent sized hit whenever it gets released anyway, surely they can't snub it entirely. If you're going to do such a high-profile collaboration and with one of the biggest artists in the UK at the moment, why would you just leave it as an album track when it has so much potential as a single, as proven by its #33 entrance on the album release week?

Mylo Xyloto is already underperforming quite a bit and I think POC is the song that could turn the era around, but if it's going to be released in 2012 then I think that's a bit of a waste.

Do you have a list of its sales for its 4 weeks in the album chart Bre?

I agree about POC but i made the statement in relation to an acceptance that Charlie Brown IS the next single. I don't think CB would do well in the singles chart but I think with airplay of any third single the album sales would creep up again because of the time of year, then after the rush POC could renew interest in the album and the single would also easily go top 40 with a video with Riri in it.

Seems like Talk That Talk has been certified platinum by the BPI i dont know if it actually sold 300,000 in its first week but it has been certified on the official website here:

www.bpi.co.uk/certifiedawards/search.aspx

All you have to do is enter "Rihanna" in the search and it should come up

It means it's had over 300,000 copies shipped to stores. :)

Or over 300,000 units with shipments and digital sales combined :P I'd think quite a considerable proportion of its sales (maybe 25%+?) are digital.

I didn't realise digital sales came into it with album certifications, but I've not read the rules for a while. Seems odd to combine store shipments and actual digital sales!

I don't know that they do, just a guess :P It'd be odder to not include digital sales at all. They should really just certify based on actual sales.

Yeh me too, does that mean she can go around saying she achieved a platinum album in 4 days?

Now that virtually all sales are recorded that would make more sense. Whether the record labels then claim an actual silver / gold / platinum disc is up to them.

This has been the biggest Chart Predictions thread in a while.

Looking forward to seeing the album sales this week, really think Westlife, Buble, Riri and One Direction could break the 100k sales barrier this week, which would be great!

Dig Out Your Soul did about 550k, I remember cos it was certified 2x platinum (same as Standing On The Shoulder of Giants) despite never quite making it. High Flying Birds should really be pushing double platinum eventually with some good discounting in January. Will probably be on about 310k at the end of this week.

Dig out your sold did 609,147 up until june 2010.

it sold 506k in 2008 #15 end of year charts.

hope to see Noel's album do near to 400k by the end of this year.

Wonder if Kate Bush will have held on to top 5 after today's sales.

It would actually be quite nice if she was #6 as all her previous albums have peaked at 1,2,3 or 6.
