December 17, 201113 yr Or, even better, do neither and donate your money to a better charity :D Well precisely.
December 17, 201113 yr Simon Cowell's a shrewd businessman and he can see that the appeal of the winner's singles are getting less and less. Combined with the bad press that he always gets for trying to ensure that the winner gets the xmas #1, it all adds up to me to suggest that it was no mistake that the single ended up being a week earlier than usual. I don't think he ever intended to go directly for the xmas #1 this year. At least releasing the week before xmas a debut #1 is guaranteed for the winner, which is far better press than a debut #2! Money is definitely going to Rhythmix, but only if people donate to it independently of buying the single. The Facebook page shows (if you click the 'donate to Rhythmix' tab on the left hand side) that £730 has been donated so far. Unless it becomes otherwise confirmed though, no proceeds from the sales of the single or download will go to the charity. Of course £730 is better than nothing but it's not the same style of charity support as the Military Wives single where proceeds go directly to Help For Heroes, in the Nirvana case separate donations have to be made. Hopefully Nirvana's label (Universal?) or the living band members will announce in the coming days that xmas week profits from Smells Like Teen Spirit will go to Rhythmix as Rage did in 2009. It'd be nice, the Nicest Man In Rock would do a good job to pledge his support.
December 17, 201113 yr Indeed. No proceeds whatsoever made from the sale of Smells Like Teen Spirit next week will go to the Rhythmix charity, the campaign is supporting the charity, which means that you can donate if you wish as a separate optional extra along with downloading the song, but I do wonder just how many people will actually do that. And the record company are even capitalising on the hype by re-releasing it physically! Does anyone know how many copies of the re-released single are being pressed? Will it be in big enough numbers to make a difference (i.e upwards of 10,000), or is it just a token, limited edition run of about 1,000 to add some prestige to the campaign?

Couldn't agree more. This is a great decision and I can see Little Mix having a much more sucessful career than they would have had if they had released it a week later. ^_^
December 17, 201113 yr In a parallel universe, I could imagine "Wherever You Are" being sung by either the X Factor Finalists or being X Factor Winners song
December 17, 201113 yr In a parallel universe, I could imagine "Wherever You Are" being sung by either the X Factor Finalists or being X Factor Winners song It does actually fit the sentiment of their yearly charity single (well, when it was for Help For Heroes at least...) but it's an original song and they only do cheap sounding covers for those :drama:

December 17, 201113 yr Saturday update Military Wives Choir 1-7 (as short as 1-10 in places) Little Mix 7-1 Nirvana 25-1 Damien Rice 40-1 50-1 Bar
December 17, 201113 yr I'd be tempted to put a decent sized bet on Little Mix now if I was a betting person.
December 17, 201113 yr I'd be tempted to put a decent sized bet on Little Mix now if I was old enough to go into the bookmakers. Fixed for you  .
December 17, 201113 yr I'd be tempted to put a decent sized bet on Little Mix now if I was a betting person. Fixed for you  . I'm going to predict next weeks Xmas top 3 could be: 01 (NE) Military Wives & Gareth Malone 02 (01) Little Mix 03 (02) Coldplay Don't think Nirvana will go top 3 but there is Stacey Soloman 'Driving Home For Christmas' released next week so who knows how that will fare.
December 17, 201113 yr I would say Little Mix may have this in the bag. The bookies favourite's never win and I feel releasing "Cannonball" a week earlier has helped as opposed to hinder it's case. Granted I want either the Choir or Nirvana to do it, but I can't see it happening. Don't shoot me for this, but if you want to back an outsider especially if each way bets are possible, go for those oompah loompah TOWIE as a shock 2nd.

Stacey Solomon's track 'Driving Home For Xmas' all proceeds of the single are donated to Alzheimers Research and Children hsopice charity Together For Short Lives. There is also the Cast From Towie with Last Xmas, all the proceeds of the single are donated to the Text Santa thing marathon on ITV, I should imagine they be featured somewhere inside the top 10. If you include the X Factor Finalists, Military Wives, Stacey Solomon, along with the Cast From Towie, all their proceeds are donated to charities, that's 4 charity tracks inside the 40 all in one week. Surely people can spend their money elsewhere. :( oh and Nirvana
December 17, 201113 yr I've heard lots of people (on different forums and a few in real life) say that they buy the song just to support the charity and not because they like the song  I find that ridiculous, I mean you can easily just donate to the actual charity instead of buying a single you don't even want to listen to...
December 17, 201113 yr Fixed for you  . That too, but that's sort of a prerequisite of being a betting person is it not? :P Edited December 17, 201113 yr by Michael Bubré
December 18, 201113 yr Military Wives have it in the bag, the single is £1.99 and it was flying off the shelves today, and with a lot of people expecting it on the shelf tomorrow, and the sheer number of people asking for it in the last few weeks, means it shall waltz to Xmas #1 with ease.

I doubt it'll waltz to no.1 - It's not in 3/4 time. :D
