Yeah, sorry, don't know why I put that..

It's not doing too bad, considering he is just a 'You Tube star'.

Maybe he'll be this year's Alexa Goddard.

Ugh! It'll be the worst UK Xmas number 1 ever :arrr:

I have to assume you're too young to remember Renee & Renato, then... :)

And I also have to say - you guys were right & I was wrong about this.

I can imagine the look on Cowell's face, though! :w00t:

Anybody know where Alex Day - Forever Day is?

I don't even know *who* he is?

Oh GOOD, that should silence the doubters quite nicely, very pleased to wake up to Wherever You Are slamming straight into #1 as I thought it would :D

I found it quite strange that in 2011 some people were assuming that a song likely to sell hundreds of thousands of CD singles wouldn't take off at all on iTunes - the download market consists of a LOT more than just teenagers and this song doing well proves it very nicely. If there's substantial demand for a song then why would it have been limited to just CD singles?

Ah, but I didn't really believe there *was* a substantial demand for this song, until I saw iTunes this morning...

Well I don't like to say I told you so, so I'll just say oh ye of little faith instead. :cheer:

Oh go on - I bet you do, really... :P

The Children In Need Medley is proof that it CAN happen, the CD pre-orders for "Wherever You Are" were so vast I think we assumed there'd be a catch somewhere.

Ugh, I knew this was going to happen :( I suppose the first mids will be interesting to see their sales though!

Yay for Stacey Solomon though

'Wherever You Are' is already in rapid decline according to Kworb. I will personally eat both of my feet if this is still #1 on iTunes by the end of the week.

This just proves that the download, and therefore singles, market is shifting back towards the older listener. In the early days of downloads, the young computer-savvy music fan made the lion's share of purchases, but now iPods and their equivalent are widespread and plenty of over-fifties know their way around the internet, it's no longer true that the Radio 1 playlist is that important.

25. Forever Yours - Alex Day

What is this?

Ooh is it? That's good I guess, although obviously the physicals will keep it up. As it's for charity I guess I'll let it off even if it's holding off my fave song in AGEEES :(

Some YouTube guy, it's awful and sounds almost like a parody. I think there's probably a campaign of some sort in favour of it.

This is just one exception of that 'rule', pretty much every other week we have young, pop/R&B/hip-hop acts who are bought by young fans largely, whereas acts like Michael Buble, Susan Boyle and Caro Emerald sell albums but don't cross into singles often (if at all). Older people are just more likely to buy albums generally.

Because of You by Kelly Clarkson is up to #130. I assume because of a TV show. Her songs seem to be used on everything. They evidently make for good backing music.

Ugh, I'll be so annoyed if Drake drops out of the top 10...AGAIN! I hope him and Rizzle Kicks can climb over Rihanna.

My fave song ever

Well, whoever he is, he seems to have a lot of fans.

189. Paradise (Fedde le Grand Remix) - Coldplay

Ooh, a remix of 'Paradise'! That gives me a convenient excuse to buy it again :kink: Coldplay and Fedde for Christmas #1.

Bloody hell that was #1 so quick and early :o :nocheer:

Was definitely not expecting them to be #1 already!

Is Delilah anywhere is the top 1000 yet? Love You So deserves to be massive.

I was actually going to try and start a discussion on this in a few weeks, about how I think older people are having an ever increasing share of the music sales.

But I completely agree with you. I was going to wait until we had the whole year-end chart, because it's shaping out to demonstrate this very well, but I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks this.

The download market IS showing some signs of shifting toeards the older generation I think, but it's too early to say older people have more power in the charts and it's nonsensical to suggest that Radio 1 doesn't matter any more.
