Jessie J better not have numerous songs in the top 40 next week. :( She's such a cliche. The "girls are as good as boys" message, the "money isn't important" message, the "we all make mistakes" message, the "f*** the school bullies" message and the "you're perfect as you are" message. Honestly it's kind of funny how she's wrapped up the big cliche's in her first five singles!

I guess you're right. But sometimes cliched songs aren't a bad thing if you go about them the right way. 'Who You Are' is a brilliantly written song for example and 'Do It Like A Dude' has its appeal, although can be quite cringeworthy sometimes. 'Nobody's Perfect' is okay lyrically but it's gotten boring for me the past few months. WLN is quite cringeworthy since she's basically prematurely boasting about her commercial success. Lines like "OMG babe your voice is like wow" don't do her any favours imo - especially since the song was recorded before her album became a hit. 'Price Tag' is just awful though. So generic and not a way to get a message across.

Maybe she will tackle the "love song cliche" next. Whether it's a Kelly Clarkson-type cliche or a Whitney-type one. :P

To be honest, I've literally heard dozens upon dozens of other artists do the same.

I imagine he was referring to Do It Like a Dude? I guess she's acting the stereotype of a male artist. Like with all the swearing, saying "brother", "dude", talking about her dick, how much money she has, etc. and grabbing her crotch and wearing a hoodie in the music video. It's almost making fun of males, if anything.

Pretty much all of Radio 1 have got behind this this week, James Corden was a guest on Greg James show yesterday and he played it, they were both loving it. I have to say of all the songs released this week or have got towards the top it's BY FAR the one I enjoy most, perhaps 'Teen Spirit' aside, but I can't get behind that, I can with Dominik though, the kind of novelty that's great!

I know, it's probably one of the most requested songs of all time on Radio 1, despite the fact it's only started being popular this week! :o  This has definitely grown on me, I listen to Chris Moyles everyday, yet I absolutely depised this song until this week. :D

The 'OMG babe your voice is like wow' line is JUST what I know some of my friends would do if anyone they knew (even if they hate them as is the message in WLN) got big like Jessie.

She's not boasting about her voice, it's what the stereotypical 'mean girl' would say.

I'm aware of that but still sounds big-headed. She clearly thinks her voice is great (which it can be, I guess). But you wouldn't see someone like Cheryl Cole putting that in a song. I don't know, it just sounds a bit cringeworthy to me.

I'm no Jessie J fan, but Who's Laughing Now is one of the more clever attempts of addressing that particular issue in the song. The rhythm means that it doesn't sound cringey at all. If it was a slower song, it would be more cringeworthy. As it is, it's a throwaway less-than-a-second moment that you could completely glance over, that she's saying her voice is good, it's not relevant to the rest of the song at all. And it seems to be her style, she hits issues hard instead of dancing round them. Fair enough if that's what you want to use your fame for.

I never really thought that about Who's Laughing Now (even though I know the bridge off by heart ). I guess she is essentially saying she's a good singer, although the song as a whole just seems like those times when you do something, or people find out something about you, and then suddenly they're trying to be friends with you.
In a way I think you could also it's subtly digging at the 'mean girls' culture as they're the type who would have bullied her.
WLN is a perfect song :) I loved it... well.. after it was released as a single, shame it missed the top10. (btw.. it's my 2nd post :) )
The amount of stuff Jessie gets critisized for on this forum is ridiculous. She is not saying she is great, she is making fun of the bullying culture, not being big headed. I find it all quite ridiculous, she is entirely greatful if you watched any interviews with her. Everyone on here just looks for something to moan about when it comes to Jessie. And anyone who claims I am being loony or whatever, I am not AT ALL, I never complain about the Jessie hate, as it is just an opinion, but it just gets ridiculous sometimes.
Not particularly related to here as it's not top 300 at the moment (although I assume it will be again after Xmas) but Heart have playlisted Loick Essien's Me Without You. I wonder if that will help it climb back a bit in the new year. One of the most unexpected Heart additions for a while it has to be said  I guess it's bland and uneventful enough for them to get away with it, and has no rapping to worry about but still...

I agree a bit. I don't think she deserves the hate, and is one of the few artists (that have been successful in the charts) that have done something different this year.

I think the hate stems from this time last year when there was all the media hype around her. I think it annoyed people a lot. Although, that wasn't her fault, I think, since there was a total "drought" back then.

I went through pretty much exactly the same thought-process as you. At first, "WTF? Loick Essien...on Heart?", but then thinking about it, it's exactly the sort of things they'd play. It's not too much different to those Bruno Mars songs which they love. A bit surprising they'd play a UK urban artist, but they did play Let the Sun Shine by Labrinth last year, so I guess as long as the song is "soft" and doesn't have much happening in it, I guess they're okay.

Cheryl Cole wouldn't put it in a song because her voice really isn't like wow.:P

Well, goodbye 'Fairytale Of New York' for another 40-odd weeks :( You will be missed.
