I'm afraid I don't "get" this. :/

I'm sure it'll grow on me with a few more listens though...

I love this review and think it is amazingly true:

[sINGLE REVIEW]NELLY FURTADO – “BIG HOOPS (BIGGER THE BETTER)”

SCORE: 4.5/5

Can you believe that it’s been six-years since Nelly Furtado released her career-defining opus Loose? Actually, you probably can. It feels like an eternity since Nelly ran the world with Timbaland and Justin Timberlake; so long that it’s hard to even remember that she was, at one point, the biggest female pop star on the planet.

But Nelly’s never been one to play by the rules, and if you’ve followed her since her Whoa, Nelly! days, it’s not entirely surprising that she put her Top Forty pop career on hold to get married, release a Spanish-language album, and start her own record label. Nelly Furtado follows her gut and does what she wants, and that sentiment couldn’t be any more true when it comes to her crazy new single “Big Hoops (Bigger The Better)”.

“Big Hoops” is Loose in a post-Diplo world. Amidst a warped, apocalyptic Hip-Hop beat courtesy of Darkchild, Nelly spits swagger, drops double entendres, and trills like a much sharper Rihanna.

“I don’t wanna talk about sex / Wanna express myself tonight,” Nelly proclaims, right before dropping a truck load of sexual innuendo. “I can go fast / I can go slow / I can go places nobody else goes.”

“Big Hoops” is so tricked-out that it’s hard to even pinpoint the actual chorus, but that’s not a problem, because the real hook is in the intro and outro when size queen Nelly chants, “thebiggerthebetterthebetterthebigger,” over and over again.

It’s like Nelly and I share the same brain!

Just when you think “Big Hoops” has come to a heaving climax, Nelly giggles, “Oh, I thought this song was over. Nope, it ain’t over yet”, leaving the door open for Darkchild to come in and drop a mean drum & bass kiss-off à la Bjork’s “Crystalline”.

“Big Hoops” is without a doubt the “Run The World (Girls)” of 2012, but where “Run The World” was stale, “Big Hoops” is fresh; where “Run The World” was messy, “Big Hoops” is just crazy enough to work; where Beyonce failed, Nelly has succeeded.

With “Big Hoops”, Nelly’s reclaimed her individuality and waved her middle finger right in the face of today’s dance-drenched pop charts. It may not match the success of her past hits, but that’s okay, because Nelly Furtado just proved that she’s still the freshest diva in the game.

Apparently it goes for adds on radio may 1st, to be fair does anyone apart from fans even know its out.
I don't know if this is a blazingly obvious point, but there's like 20(?) 90's songs namechecked in the track, I wondered if that was DELIBERATIONS
Got this on loop at the moment

I watched some video of Nelly the other day saying the inspiration for the song was the music and culture she was involved in when she was a teenager, so that's probably what it's to do with. :D

I noticed Big Hoops is on Capital's playlist!!! :cheer:

But I'm still a bit cautious. Capital often playlist songs, yet you never ever hear the songs actually being played, but it's a good sign nonetheless.

That AEIOU thing sounds interesting. Takes me back to the time Nelly was popular and there was that phase of all the female pop stars endlessly spelling out words in their songs.

on first listen I didn't think it was all that, but it's growing on me VERY quickly. the more I hear it the more I begin to enjoy it.

Clip of new track 'Something, which features Nas':

That actually sounds better than Big Hoops for me, I do like Big Hoops but the accent brings it down a bit for me. This seems a more subtle track.

There's a very enjoyable interview up on the Popjustice front page. This really made me sit up and go WHOA (Nelly!):

Rihanna has released five albums since ‘Loose’.

"Oh my god! That’s amazing."

(It's actually four but even so.)

This has now been elevated from 'quite good I suppose' to 'actually good, yes.' I'm unsure how it will do chart-wise still because I've not seen or heard any offline buzz about it at all but I do hope it is a hit.
