I compile mine from #40 to #1 too, it makes it easier for me to rank from least favourite to favourite and I often get to my Top 3 without having decided what will be #1.

Same. On some weeks I know what will be #1 halfway through but when it's closer I'm often left with two or three songs at the end which I play a few times more before I decide which one I want where  I couldn't work with the 'start with #1 and finish with #40' format at all, it would take me AGES to work out every position!

First what I do is looking how many songs I can replace with new songs, then when I decide which song will left chart i'm searching for new singles, weekly there is always at least 5 new entries. After that i'm opening my notebook/tablet (yes, no word, no excel) and write all the stuff in, I usually do that 2-3 days before I write the chart here.

That is the exact method I use as well, making a playlist and see who gets played most etc.

Although it seems like I'm the only one who use notepad rather than Excel/Word

I was wondering how people stored their charts as I have just taken my text files and (after some reformatting) imported them into a database I can search.

I do all of mine on Google Docs. I update it and then copy and paste into the forum. I have some BBCode in the document for font colours and bolding.

I also keep a Top 40 playlist of my current Top 40 on Spotify and I have most of my previous charts saved so I can listen to them whenever I want to, sometimes I decide to listen to my chart from this time last year, or the year before.

I add new songs into my chart based on what I have listened to that week and what new songs I have discovered that I like.

I use a complicated points system that I won't bother explaining, but throughout the week I actually use the Notes app on my iPad to tally up my chart. Then at the end of the week I put it all into Excel, where I keep my YTD lists.

As far as archiving my chart, I found this nice little thing called TiddlyWiki, which is basically a wiki you can store on your computer and edit in your browser, and you can pretty much do anything with it. That's where I've been keeping my #1 runs, artist histories, etc. I prefer this to Word as you can keep indices of artists and lists of songs and stuff, just like on Wikipedia, and you can give each artist their individual page with all their chart data, and you can hyperlink to every page instead of throwing it all in a single Word document.
