I think me saying Disturbia was overrated, then half a dozen people coming and saying "OMG it's her best song!!", kind of proves my point. It's too generic to be her best song imo. Any artist could've done that song. Infact, it was originally supposed to be a Chris Brown song, wasn't it, and everybody here would've hated it if it was, even though it would've sounded exactly the same.

I think Rihanna's top 5 singles ever are 'Unfaithful', 'Umbrella', 'Disturbia', 'Russian Roulette' and 'Man Down'.

They all prove that Rihanna is a diverse artist who can pull of a wide range of genres. She's proven that can really SING pop ballads, that she can do edgy R&B up-tempos, dark up-tempos, dark serious non-commercial ballads and Caribbean-inspired R&B with hip-hop elements.

Except it's hardly generic. It's memorable, oh come on, look at my experience of the song. I've made it well known I was hardly paying attention to music during that period of my life and even then Disturbia was one of the songs that stood out hugely in my memory.

The beat and the instrumental may look nothing special now, especially with the era of chart music we've gone in to, but I think, more than any other club-banger before or since, it has some really strong lyrics that set it apart from the pack. And maybe club-bangers don't rely on lyrics, but to make it a great song, Disturbia does.

It's extrememly generic. It was just "SOS and Don't Stop the Music were big hits, let's release another one". It's exactly the same thing we're criticizing Taio Cruz for doing at the moment.
'Disturbia' is anything but generic. It sounds nothing like 'Don't Stop the Music' or 'SOS' so I fail to see the comparisons in them three songs... or is it just because they're dancefloor friendly that you'll hear on a night out? They're very different styles of that particular niche.

Just ftr:

01 Disturbia

02 Unfaithful

03 Only Girl (In The World)

04 Russian Roulette

05 Rehab (really)

(06 Take A Bow)

---

That's excluding Man Down, which would be above RR imo. WMN? would probably be just outside my top 10 :o

Well, in that case all of Taio Cruz's songs are different too.

Okay, those three songs aren't that similar. I can tell the difference between them. But in Rihanna's discography, they're some of the most generic things she's released, and in 2008, Rihanna was possibly the biggest pop star in the world at that time. I thought she would've been able to get better songs than Disturbia (infact, she got Take a Bow and Rehab, so she could, and it's quite obvious that Disturbia was taken from Chris Brown's album last-minute because they wanted another Don't Stop the Music). As someone else said, Rihanna does have a very versatile discography, but it's like once a year she churns out some dispensible generic song, which is just annoying imo.

Well it's a pity the OP has died. Was looking forward to seeing the top 10 as well. Nevermind.

How rude.

But the thing is, you could mash up most of Taio's singles and it'd be hard to distinguish the difference between them. Whereas if you mash up those three Rihanna singles and you'd be able to tell what song was which.

Not for me really. I can tell the difference between the Rihanna songs, because I know them inside out, whilst I can't with Taio's songs because I always try to avoid listening to them when I can, so I don't know them well enough to tell the difference.

'Disturbia' is nothing like any of Taio's singles. Lyrically, it is an absolutely brilliant record! Musically, to a lesser extent, it is far from generic.

Rihanna might not write her own songs but her music is of a far higher calibre than any of Taio's recent offerings.

I think most of Rihanna's recent songs are better than Taio's recent songs. Just not Disturbia (and a few others). To me, they sound just as generic as Taio's songs. I don't really know why, they just do lol, and I think either artist could sing those songs. Obviously, Rude Boy, Hard, Cheers, etc. aren't generic though.

For GOD'S SAKE ERIC DROP THE SODDING OBSESSION WITH TRACKS THAT SOUND NOTHING LIKE EACH OTHER BEING 'GENERIC'

That aside, I'm outraged that One Direction placed below Dance With Me Tonight. Really Buzzjack?

Tyron, I feel your pain. I'm outraged that One Direction placed below anything.

I know you're all eager for more so here we go..

10 / Ke$ha - We R Who We R / 2870 POINTS

2011 Chart run; 1-3-7-11-16-19-23-38-54-57-66-44-53-67-85-x-84-71-98 [18wks]

One of the first #1s of the year was the first single from 'Cannibal', the re-release of Ke$ha's debut 'Animal'. Considering it only spent 8 weeks in the top 40 it could be seen as a non-#1 and although Ke$ha is generally BJ friendly I'm surprised this went top 10 as I thought this was quite forgettable, especially since it came at the start of the year. I loved this at first but was bored of it by the time it got to #1 and it isn't up to the standard of the original album.

9 / LMFAO feat. Lauren Bennett & GoonRock - Party Rock Anthem / 2900 POINTS

2011 Chart run; 22-3-2-1-1-1-1-2-3-4-4-7-9-12-14-15-19-16-21-26-25-32-41-43-46-56-57-53-60-68-53-60-57-60-78-81-71-75-66-43 [40wks]

One of the biggest hits worldwide of last year, if not the biggest. I'm even more surprised to see this top 10, I think it's a good song but it has it's haters and I thought over-play completely killed it. An absolutely great song to dance to though. The thing I do love is it's climb to #1, one of the songs that surely make it clear that On Air, On Sale can work if done right, as LMFAO weren't even big names.

Only 30pts between these two songs, with Ke$ha only another 30 above 11th, but there is now quite a big jump to 8th..

Dance With Me Tonight >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>...>>>>> What Makes You Beautiful :kink:

PRA is awful.

We R Who We R though <3

Can you just get f***ing over it? WE GET IT. We got it the first one hundred times.

Ke$ha was my second choice for a -10 as I had a feeling it would be a bit over ranked on here, wouldn't have made a difference though :P I can't believe that's her only solo number 1, especially when Blow didn't even get top 10
I'm shocked Party Rock Anthem got so high. It's the sort of thing that Buzzjack would hate (rapping, autotune, males, etc.), but I think part of the reason is that this rate doesn't allow for much hating. You can only give negative points to one song, and then it's only -10, so polarizing songs like Party Rock Anthem can do well, because its mainly just the positive opinion that contributes points (I'm probably making no sense here ).
Dance With Me Tonight >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>...>>>>> What Makes You Beautiful :kink:

Reverse that and I agree!

One of the best pop songs of recent times vs. a Jackie Wilson b-side :o

Dance With Me Tonight is a lot better than WMYB (even though I like that too) I think! Possibly my favourite Olly single :)
