3 - Friendly Fires [6]

3 - Vampire Weekend [4]

In 2015:

* Grimes scored both her 2nd and 3rd #1 with “REALiTi” and “Flesh Without Blood” respectively, and added a total of 10 weeks at #1 in the year - with a further week in January 2016 taking her to 17 in total, just 1 behind the Arctic Monkeys who have had 8 number 1s.

* Jamie xx (and Romy) went to #1 for 4 weeks in May/June with “Loud Places” becoming his 3rd #1 after “Girl/Sleep Sound” and “All Under One Roof Raving” hit the top in 2014.

* FKA twigs scored her 3rd number 1 in just over a year after “In Time” hit the chart penthouse for a month in September/October. This follows “Two Weeks” and “Video Girl” which both spent 2 weeks at #1 in 2014.

* Foals continued their run of scoring at least 1 number 1 hit from each album as title track from 4th LP “What Went Down” scorched to #1 in only its third week, spending a month at the top. Previous #1s included 2007 Christmas #1 “Balloons”, 2010s “Spanish Sahara” and 2012s “Inhaler” which spent 3, 4 and 2 weeks respectively at the top.

* The Chemical Brothers had their first #1 for 10 years as Q-Tip collaboration “Go” followed “Galvanize” (2005) to #1. First #1 hit “Star Guitar” was #1 for a fortnight 14 years ago in 2002.

* Hot Chip racked up a fourth #1 in March when “Huarache Lights” spent a trio of weeks at the top - it became their first chart topper for 5 years following “One Life Stand” in February 2010.

* Following her 2nd #1 “Boom Clap” in summer 2014, Charli XCX teamed up with Rita Ora and spent a fortnight at the top with “Doing It” to score a third chart topping hit.

Technically Ellery James Roberts should be on the list as he was a part of WU LYF who hit #1 with “We Bros” in 2011, and has subsequently scored solo #1 hits as himself in 2013 (6 weeks for “Kerou's Lament (犠牲)”) and in 2014 (3 weeks for “Unites”) under the name 'LUH.'

Updated :D

Just as some extra stats, Taylor Swift has the most #1's coming from one album, with 5 singles from 1989 reaching #1. Ariana Grande and Calvin Harris ties for second place with 4 from My Everything and Motion respectively, and Katy, Gaga and Zeddlena (and Ellie as well I think with three Delirium singles) are in a tie for third with three singles from Prism, ARTPOP, Revival and True Colors respectively. Can Selena reach second place with single #4?

  • 1 month later...

Loads have as my chart dates back to 1977 and I also have a retro era from 1960 up to mid-1965 so far. Whilst Cliff Richard has never had any #1s in the modern era, he has managed 3 so far in the 1960s era, so even Cliff Richard makes the list..

2007 marks the start of the "Download" era in my chart and there have been very few since then. However these artists have had the most #1s since 2007:

6 Skinny Lister (one in 2012 then 5 within 13 months, December 2014 to December 2015).

4 Slow Club (in 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2014)

3 Mika (2 in 2007, one in 2009)

3 Tich (all in 2013)

3. Paul Heaton & Jacqui Abbott (Prior to the download era, The Beautiful South had 6 number ones, of which Jacqui Abbott was a member on 2 of them)

From January 1960 to the end of June 1965 the leader list is:

7 Beatles

6 Elvis Presley

3 Everly Brothers

3 Cliff Richard

3 Roy Orbison

This will be easier to keep track off when I finally get round to updating my chart-run statistics soon!

Update for 2016 (added to list above)

  • Radiohead score a 5th #1 with “Burn The Witch” topping the chart for 3 weeks in June/July; their first for 4 years.
  • Yeasayer get their 4th #1 as “I Am Chemistry” spends a month at the top in February; also their first since 2012.
  • Underworld enter the list for the first time, by getting a third #1 hit with “Nylon Strung” in August - their last #1 was also in 2012.
  • Jamie xx adds another #1 for the third consecutive year with his 4th #1 hit “Gosh” in November. He also technically has a fifth with bandmates ‘The xx’ going to #1 for 3 weeks in December with “On Hold”.

^Technically Ellery James Roberts should be on the list as he was a part of WU LYF who hit #1 with “We Bros” in 2011, and has subsequently scored solo #1 hits as himself in 2013 (6 weeks for “Kerou's Lament (犠牲)”) and in 2014 (3 weeks for “Unites”) as well in 2016 (for 4 weeks with “I&I”) under the name 'LUH / Lost Under Heaven.' An impressive total of 4 number ones totalling 16 weeks.

That changes the leaderboard thusly (changes in red):
