Stopping online piracy is fine as an idea, of course if they were just after that then a lot more people would clearly be in favour. But they're going far too extreme with it, I mean they can't SERIOUSLY expected widespread support when they effectively want to ruin the internet...

On a lighter note, that Twitter thing Grimly posted is hilarious

I can't believe there has been such little response to this thread. The internet is basically going to be SHUT DOWN if this law goes to pass. :manson:

Don't worry, they'll all just have good bawl after it happens and it's too late.

That's how you get things done. -_-

SOPA being waved around by the right hand is just a loud distraction from what the left hand is doing.

For you see the H.R.1981, Protecting Children From Internet Pornographers Act of 2011 is lying in wait. It is the ace up Lamar Smith’s sleeve.

Just copy and paste the contents of SOPA onto the end of PCIP, it will be passed without debate let alone opposition. No politician in the USA will oppose anti-child pornography legislation.

RIP Megaupload. It has been shut down on piracy laws by the FBI!

SHIT :o

That is not good. That is REALLY, REALLY not good.

Oh yeah, lets outlaw the file sharing websites. Because, you know, some of what's on there is illegal. Never mind all the stuff on there that isn't.

Shit, Mediafire and other sites of the like will probably be next. This is going too far.

The modern thing we call the internet is crumbling before our eyes, I think this is just the start :( We really have to hope the right decision is made because this could just be catastrophic.
The owner and creater who are both residents of New Zealand and not American citizens, have been arrested in New Zealand at the request of the USA authorities. They have broken no laws in New Zealand...
THAT is another thing I despise about this whole situation, its the American Government effectively telling the world what it can and can't do. They are definitely overstepping their bounds here (isn't there something in international law to stop them doing it, because there should be).

this whole situation quite frankly makes me want to be sick. if the USA want to destroy a person's right to access the internet without actually breaking any proper piracy rules, then they should just keep it to their country. seriously. it's like the UK wanting to send people from the netherlands over here for smoking weed.

if this genuinely does go ahead, I'll probably have to reprogram my life completely. most of it is orientated around unwinding over the internet and if this bill goes ahead then obviously there'll be no more of that. -_-

The fact that the Feds have been able to take down Megaupload without SOPA, proves that SOPA isn't even necessary, that's first off... So, it begs the question, what the f*** do they actually need something like SOPA for..? Gee, surely cant be censor our thoughts and our opinions on the net, could it...? Naaaaah, surely not, I mean, that would make them just as bad as China, Egypt, Syria or Iran, wouldn't it...?

Second off, just where the f*** do the Americans get off insisting that New Zealand citizens are arrested for doing activities that aren't even illegal in New Zealand...? Since when did US law become the standard for the entire globe...? I'm sick of this shit.... <_<

Richard O'Dwyer would love to hear the answer to that question.

Anonymous takes down Department of Justice and Universal Music

Source - Russia Today

After a Department of Justice-executed raid today on the file sharing site Megaupload, hackers aligned with the online collective Anonymous have shut down the websites for both the DoJ and Universal Music Group, the largest record company in America.

Both universalmusic.com and justice.gov went down on Thursday afternoon, less than hours after it was revealed that Megaupload had been brought down by federal authorities and four people linked to the site, all outside of America, were arrested and charged with a conspiracy related to copyright infringement.

“It was in retaliation for Megaupload, as was the concurrent attack on Justice.gov,” Anonymous operative Barret Brown tells RT on Thursday afternoon.

Brown adds that “more is coming” and Anonymous-aligned hacktivists are pursuing a joint effort with others to “ damage campaign raising abilities of remaining Democrats who support SOPA.”

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is now becoming a cyber-WAR... Good on you Anonymous.... They take down one, then there will be retaliations.... F'uck 'em up, take them all down, f'uck the US Govt, the MPAA and Music industry.... :yahoo: :yahoo:

Recording Industry Association of America website now offline! Maybe when the world ends it means the digital world as the internet looks like it is going to kill it self by the end of the year!

Anonymous again...?

I was going to reply to this saying there was nothing to add but after MegaUpload got taken down and Anonymous got involved things just got a lot more interesting! The entire situation is patently ridiculous but I really want to see where it all goes. I really can't stand the fact that the US has arrested New Zealand citizens when they broke none of their own country's laws though. How is that even possible? It's completely illogical and I don't like where it's heading.

The same way that the situation outlined in the link Suedehead posted is possible - the US believes itself to be the policeman of the entire world....

Anonymous again...?

Yeah I think so, they are going after everyone that was for SOPA, or so it appears. I wonder what else they will go after.
