#69 RE-ENTRY Goo Goo Dolls - Iris (dunno why this is back - version from 'Greatest Hits Volume One - The Singles')

Any reason why The Goo Goo Dolls' "Iris" is at no.77?

I've said it before and I'll say it again, it was played during the final moments of this week's Holby City. :P

I hope Cover Drive can hold onto No 1 their lead is diminishing.

Who is FloRidas fanbase his songs are garbage. I am sure he does better in the UK than the US.

He has very little fanbase, his songs sell on merit alone. Well, and exposure. This is the first era where he's put out more than one song that's really connected with the British public, hence the better fortunes.

According to the 'digital sales data' coverdrive has sold 10k in the past 24 hour period - whereas earlier in the week he was on around 8k - does this mean his sales are increasing or am i talking nonsense?

Titanium and Somebody That I Used To Know together in the top five

If they could move up one and three places each respectively that would be lovely. I guess Alyssa Reid is going to stop them both next week? If so it will be bizarre to have consecutive #1's from new non UK/US artists. I wonder why the UK was chosen as the first country outside of their own to push Cover Drive and Alyssa Reid? I'm sure they could both be successful in other nations, Germany for one.

If the last time you looked was during Sunday, it's possible, they wouldn't have been out for 24 hours yet. Otherwize, I'm not really sure. It doesn't make much sense to me.

Well, we speak English in the UK, which might be a factor. I don't know about Alyssa Reid, but I think Cover Drive have only got a record deal with a UK record label (Polydor), so they can't get this level of promotion in any other countries. I heard they're even moving to the UK now.

I'm not sure how Alone Again will do tbh, it's one of those songs that could just as plausibly peak at 24 or something as go number 1!

I'm really hoping it does well, but I'd love a Sia filled top 2 even more! My perfect outcome would be Somebody That I Used To Know and Titanium in any order however

I'll probably be totally wrong here, but I could see the top 5 next week being something like:

1. David Guetta

2. Flo Rida

3. Gotye

4. Cover Drive

5. Jessie J

A David Guetta / Flo Rida top 2 next week would just be fantastic - but I didn't even expect Cover Drive to anywhere near the #1 spot, so it could well sustain sales for a second week at #1, or at the least #2. Hard to tell where Alyssa Reid will debut really, it's had lots of support from R1, but it reminds me strangely of Alexandra Stan's 'Get Back (ASAP)' - and for that reason I reckon it'll peak at something like #22/23.

Capital are playing that Alyssa Reid song a bit too, so maybe she could debut high. I don't have a clue really.

I think Cover Drive will fall quite quickly, although I hope it doesn't, and Radio 1 playlisting it might give it more sustained sales, like it did for All Time Low by The Wanted.

And if T.H.E gets released early, I don't think it'll debut at #1, but I'm sure it will debut in the top 5 somewhere.

From what I heard of Alyssa Reid's song, it was completely awful. I had to switch off before the end of the chorus - talk about completely ruining a classic! :puke2: I'd prefer anything currently in the top ten (except Cover Drive) to be #1 over it next week; hopefully it gets nowhere near and horribly under-performs like 'Born to Die' has done this week - I still can't see the album being #1 (or if it is, I don't see it being one of the biggest of the year).
I have Gotye at #5 now. I wonder is he going to overtake #3/4 soonish.

He's not. The top 4 are miles ahead. His bar is just a little over two thirds of #4.

I seem to be the only person who's convinced Alyssa is going to #1 then? It's had similar Capital support to Twilight from what I've heard and Radio 1 are fully backing it as well, it's top 10 on TV airplay, it's got a couple of fake versions charting, its EP is now top 40 on pre-order and has been around for quite a few weeks in the top 200. All these factors put together and I'd be shocked if it fails to go to #1. Glad but shocked.

EDIT: Unless will.i.am gets released early. Then it might not get #1 :P Hadn't considered that.

I'm sure Alyssa will easily go top five, and possibly number one. It's being played regularly on most of the major stations and has been selling well on pre-orders on iTunes for weeks now. It has a lot of hype around it, she'll be a one hit wonder of course but I'm certain that Alone Again won't flop.

David Guetta seems to be gaining momentum which is great news, #1 on itunes by the weekend then? Will be interesting if it gain a lead for next week. I don't think Flo Rida will reach #1 next week though once a video is out it will definately be a contender and hopefully Gotye also will be in a few weeks, seems to be gaining nicely now too.

I can't call Aylssa Reid at all though I suspect it'll go top 5 at least. It would be odd if it reached #1 considering it only reached her home country peak of #11.

I also can't call Will.I.Am, the fake version is high to assume a big #1 but as previously mentioned, a high fake version doesn't necessarily mean a UK #1. The only song I'm sure that will reach #1 in the coming weeks is DJ Fresh, over 100k first week? But its going to be incredibly front loaded.

Lana will only need to sell about 18k's worth of albums to get the #1, she couldn't have picked a less competitive environment to release in! I do think that others are overpredicting it and it will probably open with 50k max rather than the 100k figures that I've seen bandied about...But even if it really underperformed and sold as little as 25k it would be an easy chart topper.

I agree that's definitely going to #1 but I don't think it'll sell that much. Certainly won't come near Louder's first week sales (which were massively boosted by the advert it was on).

Seems so weird to say DJ Fresh is heading for a certain second #1 when just 2 singles ago he was struggling to make the top 100.

Hot Right Now is a LOT better than 'Louder'. Not as good as 'Hypercaine'/'Gold Dust'/'Lassitude' though.

Excellent to see Gotye now up to #5 even though its pop bars are well off #4 and will be lucky to overtake before another track ('Earthquake' probably!!! -_- ) overtakes.

Disappointed that 'International Love' combined in likely to push Pitbull into the top 10 this Sunday. Absolutely dreadful track. The Chris Brown effect no doubt (whiney vocals :drama: ).

Ace for Sia though, who'd have thought we'd see a day where Sia gets two entries in the UK top 10.

Looking at the release schedule, Alyssa Reid 'Alone Again' is the only track out next week that could challange for the top 10. Would be surprised if it made #1 though. I think there could well be a climber to #1 next week from 'Titanium' or 'Wild Ones'.

Well the song is everywhere so I certainly think 100k is possible but like you say, it won't beat Louder's first week sales. At the moment there doesn't seem to be much out on the 19th February which makes me think that if HRN can't get a second week, something like Flo Rida or even Gotye may well get there chance. I guess we will see. Next week or two seem to be quite unpredictable at the moment which is quite good to see.

'You da One' holding up well despite all the new releases and 59p reductions! :bounce: 'Talk That Talk' is #251, should get Rih back into the top 10 in the near future.
