Sexy Bitch was top 2/3 for AGES, almost "Lazy Song"-esque run. After all the hype and the fake version doing the best I've ever seen, "When Love Takes Over" kind of underperformed in a way. It didn't take that long to drop between 20 and 40 which is probably why its sales weren't as high.

Sexy Bitch was in the top 3 for 7 weeks. When Love Takes Over was only top 3 for 2 weeks.
I think even if When Love Takes Over had sold more than Sexy Chick in the UK, Sexy Chick would still be seen as his signature song, because it was also a massive hit in the US, whilst When Love Takes Over flopped big-time, and also Sexy Chick has had massive impact on chart music, with almost every other song seeming like a clone of it, whilst there haven't really been very many When Love Takes Over clones.

Is 'Sexy Bitch' his signature song? It's not even his biggest hit in the USA any more, both 'Without You' and 'Turn Me On' have peaked higher (the latter without a video so will end up being much, much bigger than SB most likely).

 96. Charlie Brown - Coldplay

:D Back in the top 100 already and it doesn't have a video + isn't top 50 yet on radio airplay (and only C-Listed at R1 so far)! Massive hit please :kink:

There was "What A Feeling", I think that's it :P

Sexy Chick's US chart run was: 56-93-92-79-71-60-55-45-34-25-21-16-18-12-12-7-8-7-6-6-9-6-6-6-7-5-6-10-12-14-17-20-23-24-31-32-38-43-45-50

Compared to Without You's, which is so far: 39-23-15-11-8-8-7-7-7-6-4-4-6-7-9-8-14-13-16-16-17

So I'd say Sexy Chick was a bigger hit. Although it's true that Turn Me On will probably be bigger than both, seeing as it somehow got to #1 before its music video.

Maybe Turn Me On will be seen as his signature song in the future, although as of now I certainly think most people would think of Sexy Chick if you talked to them about David Guetta.

16-18-12-12-7-8-7-6-6-9-6-6-6-7-5-6-10-12-14-17-20

15-11-8-8-7-7-7-6-4-4-6-7-9-8-14-13-16-16-17

The two top 20 runs are quite similar (13 weeks top 10 for SB, 12 for WY; 21 weeks top 20 for SB, 19 so far for WY) and Without You peaked higher so I'd say based on that Without You is just as big if not bigger. Unless it suddenly drops rapidly now.

I don't think David Guetta has a signature song yet really, he just seems to have so many hits but not one that sticks out in particular, I guess with some artists its hard to define a 'signature song' whereas with others its really obvious

I guess there are some artists who have huge hits after huge hits so there is no "signature song" in particular. Although artists like David Guetta don't have a clear one, other artists who have multiple smash hits like Rihanna have a clear signature hit. I'd say 'Umbrella' is her signature hit. Lady GaGa's is 'Bad Romance' I would have thought and Katy Perry's is 'I Kissed A Girl'. Maybe I'm way off though.

David Guetta's signature tune is currently #1 on iTunes. :D (ok, it will be by the time the track has left the top 40)
I'd say 'California Gurls' is easily Katy's signature hit now. 'We Found Love' could also be argued as Rihanna's signature hit. Weirdly though, I'd say Eminem's is definitely 'Love the Way You Lie' (or at least it's up there with the likes of 'My Name Is...' and 'Lose Yourself'). David Guetta's is hard to establish, probably because a lot of his songs sound the same/similar. But I'd say 'Without You' was more of a signature hit than 'Sexy Bitch', personally.

What? Really? Surely it's 'Firework' by a mile... I haven't even heard either of those songs for months whereas I still hear Firework all the time.

In terms of commercial success, you are probably right. But in terms of controversy, publicity and "infamous-ness", I'd say it is and will probably always be IKAG. It will be her song that appears years from now in countdowns like "The 100 greatest controversies in music" or something.

I'd say Stan is still his signature song, it would take a lot to dislodge that, although Love The Way You Lie would definitely be up there as you say

Oh yeah. Forgot about 'Firework'. But I definitely hear 'California Gurls' more than most other Katy songs and I'd definitely say people talk/talked about it a lot more at the time than they did for 'Firework'...

Shit! How did I forget 'Stan'?! LOL. It's my second favourite of his (behind LTWYL).

Katy Perry's signature song is I Kissed a Girl. Eminem's is Lose Yourself.

I wrote massive paragraphs explaining the reasons for each, but I don't think that's a good idea, given what's happened in the past when I've done that. But seriously, I thought those two artists have clear signature hits. I'm surprised we're even debating them.

A lot of other artists like Rihanna, Britney Spears, etc. have very clear signature songs I think.

Firstly, I think the US is the most important in deciding what a signature hit is. Secondly, signature hits are usually from earlier in the aritst's career, even if it's not actually their biggest hit. Thirdly, cultural impact plays a big part. Firework, Love the Way You Lie, etc. may have sold more, but I Kissed a Girl, The Real Slim Shady, etc. had waaaaaay more cultural impact.

For me Eminem has four - "My Name Is", "Stan", "Lose Yourself" and "Love The Way You Lie". I don't think it's easy to say one is a definitive signature song. Same with Katy Perry really, except her biggest hits have been condensed into a far shorter time.
