Lets see how many songs will hold Gotye at #2 in a Moves Like Jagger style in the next few weeks. First up is T.H.E then. Seems strange to hear a down with the kids 'club banger' by a trio who have an average age of 49!

Surely Gotye is more likely to be #3 this week? I don't think he's going to overtake Guetta any time soon. He'll definitely be in the top 10 for a long time though, I'm sure it'll eventually manage at least a week at #1.

Because you get the song if you pre-order her new album on iTunes. (Like Paradise was for Coldplay)

Sorry about the delay, I'm only getting the chance to reply now! Thanks for the response. :D

It's such a shame that the song will be disqualified, but at least it'll save some face for the song if it under-performs upon initial release.

There's not a lot out the week after next, so I think Gotye will probably will get number 1 that week. Titanium and T.H.E. will stop it this week, and Next To Me and Hot Right Now are big competition next week.

I think Hot Right Now and Next To Me will definitely be the top 2 in that order and then Gotye will be either #3 or #4 depending on whether he can overtake Titanium by then (I could see Titanium staying ahead for quite a while to come TBH). will.i.am will probably drop to at least #5. Boo at the non-#1s already starting to flood in but I guess it was inevitable as we don't have OA/OS to keep things sane this time around. I suspect the year end chart will be mostly dominated by songs that peaked between 2 and 5 to an even greater extent than it was last year at this rate.

Gotye could challenge for #1 the following week if DJ Fresh and Emeli are frontloaded enough and he's managed to overtake Titanium by then I guess :D

Actually, Gym Class Heroes are out then, they could possibly pose a threat for #1. Although if Stereo Hearts only got to #3... Dappy's out the week after, I think he's pretty set for a second #1.

Madonna isn't chart eligible. (And how would she be that high anyway? She's decreasing quickly already and never went top 10 on iTunes :P)

Also have the BRITs this month, Emile could get a #1, could be the dark horse track of the week.

It will be chart eligible tomorrow though, because the pre-order offer ends (if you pre-order MDNA you just get the album from then). I do agree it won't be that high, but if somehow it miraculously goes top 10 then it would get enough of a boost to be about there.

But won't that just make the track disappear entirely?

No, you can still buy the track separately as it is, but because they can't differentiate between sales from the pre-order offer and sales from an actual single track download, that's why the stupid rule exists.

Although nothing has been said about the offer tomorrow, I know it ends then so surely separate sales of the track will count towards the chart?

I think the only hope for Madge is that the casual buyers will like the song and it'll climb to the high spots like '4 Minutes' did. I really want it to do this, the song is ace.

I only don't get what Madonna was trying to say when she threw a kid in the video though.

I don't think 'Next To Me' can be considered a "dark horse" anymore. With a cover track charting fairly on iTunes it's clear there's demand for the single already. I predict Emeli Sandé will be no. 1 next week and then remain no. 1 if she performs the track at The Brit Awards - it'll definitely boost sales of the single version plus added with the Brits live download, it strikes me an early contender for biggest selling single of 2012. Emeli's album could end up being this years '21'.

As said, her song is looking to be chart eligible tomorrow so I think hardcore fans who have been waiting to buy it once the song is allowed to chart plus music video circulation and increased video airplay will ensure that it goes top 10 on iTunes this week - which should give it a huge boost into the top 5 and may end up reaching #6. :P If I didn't take risks with my predictions, my predictive top 10 would just look like the current iTunes top 10. :P

I took it as the baby representing the ball as in the Superbowl hence why the video ends with a man shouting "touchdown".

Odd video but usually odd videos sell singles. :D

As for Gotye, I can see 'STIUTK' sticking around the top 10 for 10+ weeks without ever getting any higher than #3. No doubt it'll probably be one of the top 10 biggest selling singles of 2012 so it's not all bad.

How can anyone not like T.H.E(hardest ever) with lyrics like 'Go Hard like a Mother f*cking Boner' ^_^

Just like The A Team :P

I wouldn't be surprised if Gotye sells close to a million by year end and is right near the top of the year end chart, even if it does end up peaking at #3 to be honest!

I think Next To Me will have to settle for a very high selling #2, keeping in mind it's being released at the same time as the album. I can't see it beating DJ Fresh.

what is a "non number 1" ?

A song that reaches number 1 but is so frontloaded (often with lackluster sales in the first place) that it swiftly falls. For example, Nero's Promises got to number 1 on low sales and didn't have a great chart run.
