Most loyalists got the single free thru the pre-order of the album and as far as I'm aware that doesn't count towards the chart. I think her position is based on individual single purchases alone and i would imagine that would be very little in comparison to album pre-orders. Plus it's been nil promo in the UK yet. Tomorrow night is her much anticipated super bowl performance, that might change things a bit. After all, she did say it will be the biggest show on earth.

The Superbowl is probably the best promo i can think of, so it should shoot to #1 in the US. Will it have much of an effect over here?

Given about three people in the UK watch the Super Bowl, I doubt it.

Last year, the Black Eyed Peas did it I think, and it didn't have much effect here. Although it boosted The Time to #1 on US iTunes, and I Gotta Feeling went back up to #11.

The best promo an artist can get is radio airplay.

She will be performing at around 2am in the morning so no. Anyone recording will just want to watch the game and skip the half time show anyway. And its on the BBC so no exclusive movie trailer adverts just commentary. So no reason to watch.

The only time I can think of where a live performance in the US had an effect on the UK charts (and other countries) was Beyonce's performance of Love On Top, and that performance was something out of this world to be quite honest.

There's also no reason to watch because it's a completely irrelevant 'sport' in the UK :D

What do the itunes popularity bars represent?

Is it the amount of sales for a song or is it how fast the songs are being downloaded per second, minute etc.

The popularity bars represent the sales of the song.

Nobody knows the time period for absolute certain, but it's most likely that they are showing sales from the past 48 hours. And it's also likely that they are weighted with time (so a sale from 1 hour ago contributes more to the popularity bar than a sale from 45 hours ago, for example).

It was Glee Cast that had 7 songs in the top 10 on iTunes then. The BEPs only had one iirc.

EDIT: Found the US iTunes chart after the Super Bowl:

1. Firework (Glee Cast Version) - Glee Cast

2. Silly Love Songs (Glee Cast Version) - Glee Cast

3. The Time (Dirty Bit) - The Black Eyed Peas

4. Thriller / Heads Will Roll (Glee Cast Version) - Glee Cast

5. When I Get You Alone (Glee Cast Version) - Glee Cast

6. Bills, Bills, Bills (Glee Cast Version) - Glee Cast

7. Firework - Katy Perry  (although I don't like this anywhere near as much as I used to)

8. Fat Bottomed Girls (Glee Cast Version) - Glee Cast

9. P.Y.T. (Pretty Young Thing) [Glee Cast Version] - Glee Cast

10. Black and Yellow - Wiz Khalifa    - This got the official number-one that week aswell!! :o

11. I Do - Colbie Caillat (I don't know the song, but looking at the artist and song title, I probably wouldn't like it )

12. Look At Me Now (feat. Lil Wayne & Busta Rhymes) - Chris Brown

13. F**kin' Perfect - P!nk

14. Grenade - Bruno Mars :puke:

15. I Need a Doctor (feat. Eminem & Skylar Grey) - Dr. Dre  (for the artists, I don't like the song that much)

16. Need You Now (Glee Cast Version) - Glee Cast :puke:

Just seen the music video to Madonna's new track - my first hearing of the track too. Awful, is all I can say. She's trying too hard to make a 'teen pop' record, and adding Nicki Minaj and M.I.A. didn't really do much to that either, other than try and at least appeal to their respective fanbases. If it becomes a genuine hit in the UK, I'll be surprised - especially with the whole 'inelligible' thing it's got goin' on currently.

I too am hoping will.i.am is the only new T10 entry next week - it'll be pushing out Kelly/Lana Del Rey or Pitbull, I reckon - although it's hard to tell where it'll actually debut. I'm tempted to say #1, but with 'Titanium' still on 59p, who knows?

I think for next week it's certainly between will.i.am, David Guetta and Gotye. I'm hoping will.i.am wins, because David Guetta has already had a week, and Gotye will probably be in the top of iTunes until April, so has many future chances to be #1. And also I hope will.i.am wins since it's the best of the three, although Somebody I Used to Know is a great pop song too, so I wouldn't mind that beating him to #1.

That's if will.i.am is even a contender. I could see him underperforming a bit and getting like #5 or something.

I've tried to give it a chance but i cant stand it

Nicki and MIA dont seem to want be in the video and just look really awkward. The song is pretty lacklustre too

Madonna already dropped to #15 :o This is a massive flop by her standards! A real shame as I like the song but I thought it would be doing at least twice as well as its doing at the moment :( I didn't think it'd do as well as Born This Way but not going top 10 is a massive flop for someone as iconic as Madonna

Really? One day on sale and probably only heard by diehards and we're calling it a flop?

Note: Not a fan either way but i think its a little early to dismiss it

Of course Glee had a massive boost because it was showed after the superbowl and they got their highest ever figures 26million!
The chart Eric posted must have been the Tuesday/Wednesday after the Superbowl rather than the Monday. The highest Glee songs were from the Tuesday episode, not the one that aired on Sunday right after the SB. Pretty sure 'Black & Yellow' was #1 directly after but I'm not certain.

^ Yeah, it must've been a little while after the Super Bowl. It was the closest I could find though. :( I remember immediately after the Superbowl, The Time went to #1, and I Gotta Feeling went to #11, and they fell quickly. The BEPs definitely didn't have 7 songs in the top 10, but Glee Cast did (since they had 2 episodes in one week), so I think he might've just got them mixed up (easy mistake to make tbh).

Black and Yellow got the official #1 (even though it was as low as #10 on iTunes at one point during the week). I'm not sure if it actually got #1 on iTunes, but that week was a total MESS, so it probably got #1 for consistency, more than anything. And it was regarded as a theme tune for the Super Bowl (get that cultural impact Wiz ), so I think it probably got high radio airplay the week leading up to it. Not 100% sure though.

I really can't even begin to imagine the sort of melt-downs that would happen on Buzzjack if we had 7 Glee Cast songs, and then Black and Yellow and The Time in the top 10 at the same time in the UK.

I just heard the new madonna song today for the first time and dont like it all, i expected it to be top 10 on uk itunes at this stage though.
I really wish Kelly would move up the top ten. :( #8 is fine, but the song is fantastic and is worthy of at least a top five position. :( Looks like I might have a 'Down With The Trumpets' style chart run.
