'Titanium'/'Somebody That I Used To Know' - non-events? Both have become top 3 hits - both set to peak at #1 - I'd say they'll definitely rack up some good sales for 2012 - just hope their chart runs aren't ruined by the Emeli Sande/Gym Class Heroes/DJ Fresh schedule we'll see over the next month. Hard to tell where DJ Fresh and Emeli Sande will debut next week, and where will.i.am will fall to - all 5 occupying #1-5 would be pretty swell though - a big fan of them all.

Well I'm absolutely delighted to see Gotye at #1 on iTunes and being a Wednesday maybe, just maybe it'll make #1 on Sunday.

I don't mind which is no. 1 between 'Titanium' and 'STIUTK'. I've always preferred songs sticking at no. 1 to prove their worthy but at least 'Titanium' has climbed to its peak and accumulated a decent amount of sales. So I'd be happy to see Gotye's track follow suit.

Will.I.Am stalling at #3 could be a real wake up call to record companies. Holding back this release was clearly not the right approach after the Kings Of Pop cover sold enough to officially make the top 40. 'T.H.E.' should've been released at least 3 weeks ago I reckon. It may not have been #1 even then but it would've sold more in the long run than its held back release suggests it will.

The sales gap between Guetta and Gotye is only 5k today as posted by the OCC on their website, I think Gotye should be able to get it if he can keep extending his lead.

Guetta is down to 88.6% so far for the record.

Latest update:

1 Gotye - Somebody That I Used to Know (feat. Kimbra) 1.0000 (light red)

2 David Guetta & Sia - Titanium (feat. Sia) 0.9237 (light green)

It's going to be a close one! I don't mind either way, but i guess id prefer STIUTK just because it deserves #1 too!

Titanium also has two versions in the top 700!

The second version won't be adding any more than a few hundred if it's that low :P

I'm just ecstatic at the prospect of the UK supporting a track that has been huge in so many other countries. I doubted whether Gotye's track would ever take off but it would be incredible to see 'STIUTK' #1 this Sunday.

I bought Gotye's track on iTunes a couple of weeks back (the week it climbed 36-21) and didn't really expect it to go much higher after that - especially when it seemed to stall between 13-20 for ages.

This time last week "Titanium" was trailing behind 6k, eventually "Titanium" gained over the weekend by 9k in the end.

If Gotye is trailing behind by 5K, I reckon Gotye could gain by the end of the week just like "Titanium" did last week. I'm going with a gut feeling that he can do it, I know its another weekly #1 at least the track deserves to be there. Next week Emeli and DJ Fresh are bound to occupy the top 2, unless something stops them like David Guetta's other single with Nicki Minaj. Personally I'm loving the single charts at the moment as only 1 track has debuted at #1, while the rest climbed on their own merit.

If Gotye makes #1 on Sunday, it will be the first time I've liked back to back chart toppers since goodness only knows when.

get this to number 1 on uk itunes

I'll be surprised if it even went top 1000. Although the UK's charts seem to finally be varying up a bit lately, so who knows, maybe he could get a hit one day?

On another note, glad to see Gotye at #1 on iTunes. Such a good song. I think/hope it can make it officially.

I don't like Somebody That I Used to Know because it has climbed up the chart, I like it because it's a good song.

If Gotye makes #1 on Sunday, it will be the first time I've liked back to back chart toppers since goodness only knows when.

Me too. Written In The Stars and Forget You would be mine...

With this turnaround of No 1's thank god I don't collect them anymore! :o

Looking back, the last two consecutive #1s that I loved were Don't Go and Heart Skips a Beat (I also loved Promises, so that's three in a row).

And the last two before that were Airplanes and We No Speak Americano.

I usually like most number 1s, but the last time I really loved two consecutively would have been Someone Like You and Don't Hold Your Breath, and it will happen again if Gotye gets it this week

The last pair of #1s I loved on a similar or greater level to Titanium/Somebody That I Used To Know would be Heart Skips A Beat/Stay Awake (although I tend to like most #1s, the last duo of #1s that I liked both of was Good Feeling and Domino :P) Looking through the Personal Charts topic I made for 2011's #1s, I apparently only charted Heart Skips A Beat at #15! That's way lower than it should have got (although I think I love it more now than I did at the time of its release to be fair).

Titanium/STIUTK is an incredible pair of consecutive #1s though, which is a big contrast to the horrendousness that would have been if Cover Drive and Alyssa Reid had been consecutive #1s.

The last two number one's that I Liked was Someone Like You & Don't Hold Your Breath
