February 8, 201213 yr She holds the record for most WW sales in a calender year, since they started keeping accurate records. Previous higest was Usher with 12 million, Adele sold 15.7 in 2011, and apparently, WW, has sold over 2 million this year already. (They count the last week in December as week 1 for 2012, because the last day of the week(Sunday) fell in 2012.). Ive been following charts and sales for years , ever since the sixties and have never ever seen an album sell like this in its first year. Its phenomona almost bordering on the paranormal. I mean, she smashed the UK calender year sales record for an individual album by almost 1.3 million. Thats about 50% higher than the previous record. (2.4 million, James Blunt) and in an era when Album sales generally are at an all time low. World wide best sellers over the last 5 years.... 2007 Amy Winehouse 5.5 Million 2008 Coldplay 6.6 Million 2009 Susan Boyle 6 million 2010 Lady gaga 5.9 million 2011 Adele 15.7 Million! You are right, its a massive total. The figure that will be recorded officially though will be the IFPI shipped figure which will probably state around 17million for 2011, which is even more impressive!
February 9, 201213 yr She's one of only 5 acts this century(and the top of course) to have sold more than 3 million of one album in the UK. The others are James Blunt, Amy Winehouse, Leona Lewis and Dido. (UK release was Oct 2000). Females certainly rule the charts this century. As a sidenote Only one of the previous 4 has not won a Brit. and, imo, should have. I hope Adele is not ignored like Leona was. Edited February 9, 201213 yr by Olympus
February 10, 201213 yr How about a (very) slightly negative one for a change?? She's the only person since 2010 to has a US No.1 that didn't make the Top 10 here.

February 11, 201213 yr Re the first post on this thread: you've written 'Most weeks at no1 by a solo artist album ever 21'. I believe that's held by Elvis with G.I. blues (22 weeks) Here's one to consider though- does she hold the record for 'most career weeks at number 1' for a British female?

That depends on how you classify GI Blues. If you consider it to be a film soundtrack then Adele has the record for a studio album for a solo artist.
February 11, 201213 yr That depends on how you classify GI Blues. If you consider it to be a film soundtrack then Adele has the record for a studio album for a solo artist. Fair enough :) Anyone know if she holds the 'most career weeks at no1' for British female?
February 21, 201213 yr Author Realised another - fastest female album to sell 2million copies and 2nd overall (joint with Dido): Fastest selling albums to 2m sales: 1. Robson & Jerome (48 days) 2. Dido / Adele (87 days) 3. Beatles - 1 (97 days) In terms of top female by total career weeks at no1 in the albums, Madonna is still ahead with 29 (vs. Adele's 21)
February 21, 201213 yr 21 was the quickest album to 3 million as well and I doubt any of the small handful of 4 million sellers have done it in as few as 56-and-a-bit weeks either. Edited February 25, 201213 yr by Bré
February 21, 201213 yr Fair enough :) Anyone know if she holds the 'most career weeks at no1' for British female? Rundmck - Adele's 21 No.1 Album Weeks are the most by any British Female. Easily beating the previous British Female to hold that Chart Record - Dido. Dido spent 7 Weeks at No.1 with 'No Angel', & 10 Weeks with 'Life for Rent' = 17 No.1 Album Weeks over all. Adele's 21 No.1 Album Weeks are also the 2nd most by any Solo Female - beaten only by Madonna, & her 29 Weeks. (Although Adele has 21 No.1 Weeks from 2 No.1 Albums, & Madonna got her 29 No.1 Weeks from 11 No.1 Albums). The OCC are regarding 'G.I. Blues' as a Film Soundtrack, which is why they are saying that '21',by Adele, (20 No.1 Weeks), has the most UK No.1 Weeks for a Solo Artist. The Elvis Presley Album spent 22 Weeks at No.1, in 1961. Good info, thanks Zeus. The potential record of 'biggest selling non top 10' may no longer be eligible if she performs SFTTR tonight at the Brits!
February 21, 201213 yr Good info, thanks Zeus. The potential record of 'biggest selling non top 10' may no longer be eligible if she performs SFTTR tonight at the Brits! After what happened with Someone Like You last year, nothing can be ruled out.
February 23, 201213 yr Adele and the Beatles are the only acts ever to post three songs in the Billboard Hot 100's top 10 and two albums in the Billboard 200's top five in the same week.
February 23, 201213 yr http://www.buzzjack.com/forums/index.php?s...t&p=3906367 This post documents all of her achievements and records achieved last week in the USA due to the Grammys. Quite a long post, just to warn you :P Edited February 23, 201213 yr by Bré
February 24, 201213 yr Author Do you think RITD will become the biggest selling digital song ever in the states? Last I looked it wasn't too far off and well over 200k again last week is phenomenal. It hasn't been mentioned by MW or OCC but SLY must be biggest selling UK download and biggest selling digital only single ever Edited February 24, 201213 yr by spicefunk
