Thwarted by not reading the first post again! (You could have at least mentioned that Titanium is now a #1 in the commentary though surely :P)

But that would be in the update next February! The commentaries refer only to the events in the timescale. :)

89. NUMBER ONES- Michael Jackson (264,400)

Jackson’s “Number Ones” is comfortably the oldest album on this rundown dating back to 2003 when it pipped Busted to the top that November.

I'm guessing Abba's Gold: Greatest Hits only just missed out, then?

246,200 in this decade. I don't have the total sales to date on it in the main as these have been revised down from the 90s figures of the time. It sold 1,995,000 in the 00s, and 2,860,000 in the 90s (unrevised) so a total I would give is 5,101,000 but I suspect that will be slightly more than the OCC would give for it.

88. FALLEN EMPIRES- Snow Patrol (269,300)

RELEASED: 13:11:11

PEAK POSITION: 3

WKS ON CHART: 7

CHARTING TRACKS:

CALLED OUT IN THE DARK (11)

THIS ISN’T EVERYTHING YOU ARE (40)

Making the top 100 on the strength of just seven weeks sales is impressive though it seems credible to suggest that the glory days of the band, certainly commercially, are now behind them. Both “Eyes Open” and “Final Straw” managed to move over 1.7 million copies each, a figure which “Fallen Empires” looks highly unlikely to match. Despite leading early sales flashes the competition proved too strong for “Fallen Empires” finally being surpassed by both JLS and Michael Buble in the race for No 1 back in November.

Snow Patrol still doing very well for themselves, they've had a shelf life longer than any of the other bands compared to Coldplay (Travis, Keane etc.). The reviews were relatively weak for "Fallen Empires" as well which only makes those sales more impressive, only 58 on Metacritic which surprises me as I heard some very good things about the album.

87. BRING HIM HOME- Alfie Boe (272,300)

RELEASED: 26:12:10

PEAK POSITION: 9

WKS ON CHART: 38

CHARTING TRACKS: NONE

Boe got his big break back in 2002 when Baz Lurhmann cast him in lead role for his version of “La Boheme” and some 4 years later Boe signed his first record deal and released his debut album. Near constant roles in major musicals through the latter half of the noughties resulted in the lead role in “Les Miserables” at the O2 Arena which made it to DVD and occasion and resulted in his mainstream breakthrough “Bring Him Home”.

86. ULTIMATE COLLECTION- Barbra Streisand (274,800)

RELEASED: 24.10.10

PEAK POSITION: 8

WKS ON CHART: 13

CHARTING TRACKS: NONE

Despite not charting with any single in 18 years the Streisand brand is clearly still alive. Topping the album charts as recently as 2002 with her “Essential collection” it was superseded just 8 years later by this collection (which obviously doesn’t include any newer hits since that GH set). All proving the point perhaps that a great voice will ensure popularity through the changing fads of the charts.

It is funny how this was released around the same time as Duck Sauce "Barbra Streisand". Must've been great promotion for her

91. JASON DERULO- Jason Derulo (260,500)

RELEASED: 28:02:10

PEAK POSITION: 8

WKS ON CHART: 31

CHARTING SINGLES:

IN MY HEAD (1)

RIDIN SOLO (2)

WHAT IF (12)

WHATCHA SAY (21)

THE SKY’S THE LIMIT (68)

The debut set for Derulo established him as one of the bright new things back in 2010 with a string of song singles that did very well for him indeed. A knack of picking good tracks to sample proved fruitful as first hit “Whatcha Say” sampled Imogen Heap’s “Hide & Seek” , “Ridin Solo” originally sampled the Verve’s “Bittersweet Symphony” but the sample was blocked pre release, and “The Sky’s The Limit” sampled 80s hit “Flashdance”. A second album in 2011 has yet to prove as successful for Derulo though did deliver a second chart topping single with “Don’t Wanna Go Home”.

It's very good your work but i would like to remind you that "Whatcha Say" was Number #3 for Mr Jason Derulo.. ;)

Read the first post - the #3 was in the last decade ;)

I have a total of 4,475,000 to end 2008, plus 248,500 for 2009, plus your 246,200 this decade would make 4,969,000, which I think is the revised down total? Still going to hit 5mil this year which considering what their previous GH set sold is just insane. Adele may have a hard time chasing that one down...

85. THESE STREETS- Paolo Nutini (275,500)

RELEASED: 17:07:06

PEAK POSITION: 28

WKS ON CHART: 46

CHARTING TRACKS: NONE

TOTAL SALES: 1,462,600

Topping up on the near 1.2 million sales it garnered in the 00s, Nutini’s debut album is the album that refuses to stop selling and has charted for almost half of the decade so far, the longest stayer out of the albums featured so far. Nutini got his break back in 2003 all thanks to David Sneddon (remember him?), who was due back in his hometown post fame academy victory. When he was delayed Nutini (who had won an impromptu pop quiz that was hosted to cover the delay) was given the opportunity to play a few songs by the hosts of the concert which got him a manager who was in the crowd! Funny old world pop music.

84. IMMERSION- Pendulum (276,800)

RELEASED: 24:05:10

PEAK POSITION: 1

WKS ON CHART: 27

CHARTING TRACKS:

WATERCOLOUR (4)

WITCHCRAFT (29)

THE ISLAND (41)

Second album “In Silico” proved to be the breakthrough for the Australian band Pendulum but it was “Immersion” which gave them not only their first chart topping album but also their first top 5 with “Watercolour”. Rumours abound that the band’s fourth set is likely to be more punk influenced but the band are taking their time, and to fill that members Swire and McGrillen formed Knife Party who hit the top 10 this year on “Antidote” with Swedish House Mafia.

83. VELOCIRAPTOR- Kasabian (278,900)

RELEASED: 18:09:11

PEAK POSITION: 1

WKS ON CHART: 15

CHARTING TRACKS:

DAYS ARE FORGOTTEN (28)

The Fourth album by Leicestershire band Kasabian has a lot to live up to. It duly became their third chart topping album in 2011 but all their previous albums have passed the 600k mark and early signs aren’t proving hopeful for the set. In part this is due to the lack of big hitting first single unlike its predecessor, but strong live sets may yet prove enough to pull the album through.

It most likely won't make 600k (releasing the title track would certainly help though) but it's comfortably platinum now which is no mean feat.

Good to see Pendulum here, sales are a little disappointing but "Immersion" should at least pass 300k when their fourth album's released.
