20. +- Ed Sheeran (791,491)

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/f/fb/+EdSheeran.jpg

RELEASED: 12:09:11

PEAK POSITION: 1

WKS ON CHART: 16

CHARTING TRACKS:

THE A TEAM (3)

I DON’T NEED YOU, YOU NEED ME (4)

LEGO HOUSE (5)

DRUNK (63)

From beginnings including opening for Nizlopi and auditioning for “Britannia High” before touring with Example in 2010, Sheeran certainly paid his dues. This is his debut for a major label and remained top 10 since release for the rest of 2011 becoming the 9th biggest album of last year and will undoubtedly rise further on this rundown next year.

700k for Justin Bieber! What on EARTH is the world coming to! Although I guess there was a billion versions of the album released.
21. DISC-OVERY- Tinie Tempah (719,500)

UNSTOPPABLE (33)

The title is 'Simply Unstoppable' :P

Yet, looking back, song for song, it's probably better than the Tinie Tempah album immediately above it in this countdown

I really like Tinie's album. When I first got it I hated it for the most part but it grew on me and is really solid. And who knew Tinie and Ellie working together would result in such a fantastic song!
I've lost Tinie's album!! :( I ain't buying it again, and I got a new laptop so it's not on my iTunes anymore. Ugh.

No. Not at all.

Haven't listened to Tinie Tempah so can't comment on his album

But people assume just because it is Justin Bieber, it is rubbish even when they havent even listened to it

It is a brilliant album with a high number of quality written songs :)

This works both ways

I really like what Justin has done for the industry in general but having listened to the album I must say it's not very solid except couple of hits... But "Baby" still is and always will be amazing.

19. WHO YOU ARE- Jessie J (805,100)

RELEASED: 25:02:11

PEAK POSITION: 2

WKS ON CHART: 44

CHARTING TRACKS:

PRICE TAG (1)

DO IT LIKE A DUDE (2)

WHO YOU ARE (8)

NOBODY’S PERFECT (9)

WHO’S LAUGHING NOW (16)

DOMINO (34)

Somewhat incredibly this never made No 1, stuck instead behind, well Adele obviously, despite a first week sale of 105k more than enough to normally guarantee a top placing. Featuring the million selling “Price Tag” it also narrowly beat (as you can see) Ed Sheeran to the title of biggest selling UK debut album of 2011. Another winner of the “BBC sound of” poll she fulfilled all expectations with one of the most eagerly awaited debut sets of the year, and spent all of its chart weeks in the top 30.

18. BORN THIS WAY- Lady Gaga (820,200)

BORN THIS WAY (3)

THE EDGE OF GLORY (6)

JUDAS (8)

HAIR (13)

MARRY THE NIGHT (16)

YOU AND I (23)

Without a shadow of a doubt THE most internationally anticipated album of 2011 was Lady Gaga’s second studio album and follow up to the 2 million plus selling “The Fame”. With so much written and talked about her in 2011 it’s best to stick to the facts on this one, the album did open at No 1 on both sides of the Atlantic, shifting a million copies in its first week on the US, and whilst its debut here was less spectacular it did sell 215k, which remained the biggest opening week of 2011. Perhaps the lack of a No 1 single (whereas its predecessor had 4 to boast) may lead some to suggest it was a failure, it does however stand as one of the 20 biggest albums of the decade.

CHARTING TRACKS:

EMPIRE STATE OF MIND (PART II BROKEN DOWN) (4)

TRY SLEEPING WITH A BROKEN HEART (7)

DOESN’T MEAN ANYTHING (23)

TOTAL SALES: 968,400

Her first UK No 1 album was, conversely, her first studio album NOT to top the charts stateside. It was the album that returned her to the kind of status she enjoyed with her debut album (and still her biggest seller “Songs In A Minor”) thanks in part to that duet with Jay Z, and gave her back to back UK top 10 hits for the first time in her decade long chart career.

Oh dear I don't know anything more bland than The Script.

At a stretch - pre-2005 Stereophonics - but yeah, terrible band.

But people assume just because it is Justin Bieber, it is rubbish even when they havent even listened to it

I've heard the charting songs and I think they're all rubbish, and the songs which charted seem to be half of the album, so I don't really need or want to listen to the album to base an opinion on it :P

I loved Jessie's album when it first came out, and played it non-stop before i saw her live. I haven't listened to it since though. It really grates on me now (except for Do It Like A Dude)

Yay for Born This Way making the top 20  - hope it can pass 1 million eventually. Think i can confidently say it is my favourite ever album :drink:

CHARTING TRACKS:

BORN THIS WAY (3)

THE EDGE OF GLORY (6)

JUDAS (8)

HAIR (13)

MARRY THE NIGHT (16)

You've missed You and I, which peaked at 23.

16. RECOVERY- Eminem (836,300)

RELEASED: 21:06:10

PEAK POSITION: 1

WKS ON CHART: 51

CHARTING TRACKS:

LOVE THE WAY YOU LIE (2)

NOT AFRAID (5)

NO LOVE (33)

SPACEBOUND (34)

A sixth straight No 1 album from Eminem takes his winning streak all the way back to 2000, “Recovery” however was the longest chart topper of all being the best seller in the land for 7 weeks in the summer of 2010 in 4 separate stints. However this is yet to follow in the footsteps of 4 previous albums by the rapper to make a million, and whilst it helped him to a couple of US chart toppers there was no such repeat over here, as if to compensate of course it does contain “Love The Way You Lie” the best selling single of 2010.

15. COME AROUND SUNDOWN- Kings Of Leon (859,900)

PYRO (69)

Much like Gaga, KOL had the formidable task of following up a multi million selling album and coming up short. Naturally it topped the charts but it spent just 9 weeks in the top 10 and hung around for more than 100 weeks less than the mighty “Only By The Night”, of course that album had the benefit of a massive launch single and looked at in the context of their other albums (OBTN excluded) then it’s still fantastic sales for the family Followill.
