Of course, the best song on Radio 1's playlist is the one song that you haven't put up in this thread. The INMWT playlist track is the fantastic Zola by The Wonder Villains:

I entered this song to BJSC :D

(But it didn't qualify - TBF I forgot to vote so it might have qualified if I had voted - I don't think so though).

Oh my god...if that stooshe song ends up being a hit, I might emigrate. It makes me hate southerners.
Maybe 'Bad Girls' is just supposed to be a buzz single?

As for Madonna, she's like 53 isn't she? It was always going to be a push for R1 to playlist her regardless of how many Nicki Minajes and M.I.A.s she recruits, let's be honest :P I think they will playlist her in the next few weeks though.

I guess it's possible that Bad Girls is a buzz single but considering the expensive video (by her standards at least) and just the fact that it's had such a flawless campaign up to now I didn't think it would be a buzz single. Initially I did seeing as it was on Vicki Leekx but eh. She'll never have as much buzz as she does now again so if this is just buzz it's a wasted opportunity.

I don't think Madge's age really comes into it. Sure, she's old, but she's still relevant. As recently as 2009 she had a #3 and in 2008 she had a multi-week #1 and it's not like anyone really cares about the difference between 49/50 and 53.

Radio 1 playlist seems more and more niche these days, where's the commercial pop?

What do you mean?

Radio 1 plays lots of comercial pop as Eric Blob said.

Give us examples of commercial pop songs not playlisted on Radio 1

Well there's Give Me All Your Luvin for a start. But I agree with Eric anyway. As much as Radio 1 can annoy me they are the best radio station by far and I'd much rather listen to this playlist than Capital or Kiss or whatever.

I prefer Capital much more than Radio 1, Radio 1 talk way too much!

Opinions on some of the new additions

* Dot Rotten - Are You Not Entertained? Not really sure what to make of this yet, and I'm curious to see how much success he'll have. I'm guessing his follow-up singles will chart higher once he gets more name recognition

* Enter Shikari - Arguing With Thermometers YEEEEEAAAAAAHHH WE'RE ALL ADDICTED! YEEEAAHHH, WE'RE ALL DEPENDANT! :D

* Nero - Innocence Wasn't "Must Be the Feeling" set for release? Oh well, pretty good song. Unlikely to chart anywhere now

* Stooshe featuring Travie McCoy - Love Me Expected to see them here soon. Kinda starting to like this, should easily go Top 10 with Capital supporting it too!

* Disclosure - Tenderly Not bad, think I've heard this before somewhere...

* Lucy Rose - Red Face Really liking this on first listen!

I take it the new Scissor Sisters song will flop after all then

Oh yeah, almost forgot... Radio 1>>>>>>>>>>>>Capital.

Why on earth is Kelly still stuck at their B List. A List it bitches :P
It's annoying. I thought with MKIA it was maybe justifiable as they thought it might bomb down the chart or whatever but there's no excuse for not A-listing Stronger unless they think she'll get enough airplay from commercial radio? Didn't stop them hammering You Da One for weeks on end and nobody was checking for that.
As irritating as all the talking is, Radio 1 plays a wide variety of genres, some commercial, some not so much, which is beneficial to newer acts. Capital plays all mainstream, which isn't a bad thing, but when its the same old playlist over and over again, it grates, especially seeing as they wouldn't touch a song if has no chance of making the top 40...

It's true that Capital seem to have a song on the playlist for AGES sometimes (e.g. Someone Like You seemed to be on there for like 9 months), but I think part of that is down to the charts moving so slowly.

Radio 1, I've never found the talking too bad, apart from Chris Moyles's show, where I'm sure I sometimes hear him talk for 20 minutes without playing a song, and it seems like such a waste when I listen to his show.

The charts hardly move that slowly though, there's just the occasional insanely long runner.

Amazing to see Nero's "Innocence" on the playlist   I thought Must Be The Feeling was their next single but Innocence is MUCH BETTER

Its a double A side - Innocence is the second track

But compared to, like in 2003 or something. Back then everything used to debut at its peak and then free-fall. Even the biggest hits of the year were only spending a few weeks top 10 I think. I wasn't following the charts back then, so this is just really based on what other people have said. So "hits" stations would rotate their playlists faster in that time period, to keep up with the charts and all those free-fallers.

They wouldn't, they still hung on to certain songs just as long as they do to others now. It's just it made no real difference to older singles after a few weeks of being in the chart, it didn't stop radio stations hammering them to death.

I certainly felt songs were less overplayed back then than they are now (in general).

And radio stations change a lot over 10 years anyway. Back in 2003, I didn't even get Capital. It was called Galaxy FM, and was an urban top 40 station (which means a station that plays the chart, but is supposed to favour the urban music).

If it's possible maybe someone can post the radio 1 playlist from 2003 then we can see how it changed better

I wasn't talking about Radio 1 (I didn't listen to it then, so I can't speak for what it used to be like). I was talking more about commercial radio (agreeing in response to someone saying Capital have the same songs in rotation for months at the moment). It's only in recent years that I feel we've had songs overplayed to the extent of I Gotta Feeling, Forget You, Moves Like Jagger, etc. Even the biggest hits never used to be played that much. I don't remember hearing Yeah! on the radio on a daily basis 2 years after it was released, for example.

I really don't get people complaining about certain artists not being playlisted. Simply turn off Radio 1.
