Being late is still late. It's up to the host whether they accept the late votes and Dandy* said before that he wanted the votes in and not passed the deadline as he needed to compile the results.

That's all the fairness there is..

Of course being late, is being late but you can't stop circumstances that stops you being on the internet at certain times.

Sorry to drop you in it, but you were online on Sunday night, saying 'oh, I'll just do it tomorrow..' :kink:

Yeah, but I had things to do monday morning (insurance etc, yawn)

You have a substantial amount of time to vote so that excuse is null & void. You miss the deadline and the host has every right to reject your vote.

You missed the deadline when you have been active throughout the week and had plenty of time to vote, you are getting no sympathy at all here. When you miss a deadline in real life it also has consequences. If you miss a uni or work deadline because you've been 'busy' the Uni will laugh while deducting you grades and your work would fire you for poor performance.

There's no excuse for not voting unless you couldn't get to your computer between the days when the voting started and the deadline.
And there was the extra days to vote as well unlike the usual deadlines...
Yes, I know. I do understand, but I got it the first post
I didn't even mention about the extended deadline in my first post reply to you about this matter.

The difference being that a uni or work deadline is important for other reasons - at uni you get an unfair advantage by submitting after the deadline. This is an online song contest for fun.

Anyway, speaking on a broader point separately from Phil's post above, I really never have understood the deadline fetishisation on here. We still haven't had the results and people are taking issue with people voting half an hour late? To my mind (speaking in general and only as a contestant before someone gets their back up and tries to imply that I'm attempting to run this) the only principle that should govern voting should be whether or not your votes being accepted would be actively unfair - like voting in the middle of results.

If your votes can be accepted, I think they ought to be. The deadline should be a guarantee of having your votes accepted - and we should be pragmatic and see voting after the deadline as something done at your own risk, rather than the tired calls of 'you must be punished with a deduction as you voted after the deadline and it's the principle' that happen EVERY BLOODY TIME. The point of the punishment is to stop the advantage a contestant would get from non-voting and to discourage non-voting. I can never understand why people insist punishments should be pursued if votes have been submitted before the results - the whole point of the thing is to get the votes, so why penalise if the votes can be accepted? The point of this whole thing is fun and to discover music. People chucking about 'oh it's the principle' on things like this is really quite sad. If votes can be accepted, I don't see why they should be penalised even if they are after what is almost always an arbitrary deadline (let's face it - how many hosts have the results immediately after the deadline?)

I do highly agree with this.

** raises hand **

I remember ROBOT voted late when I hosted BJSC last year and had everything prepped (yes, I kept right on top of this having been made aware of the amount of work involved). Luckily for ROBOT, his votes didn't affect the order of tracks in terms of most points and his entry (which was SoundGirl) ended up qualifying too. Had his votes affected the scoreboard, I would've had a sigh moment as I would've needed to amend the last part of my prep work.

Bare in mind, I announced the results of the semi finals two hours after the deadline closed. :D

That's why I always had the results immediately after the deadline, when I hosted BJSCs. To avoid all of this

Then again if there's no punishment for late voters, wouldn't people just leave it to last minute and then go thinking "I can vote 10mins, 20mins, etc late without getting punishment and he will still accept my votes?" resulting in mass votes at last second?

It's keeping a deadline which is there for a reason. How about putting it this way and asking the late voters why don't they vote earlier in the week when they had free time to avoid clash with activities later on in the week? Lee was online all week and yet decides to vote late with the consequence that it clashed with real life activities.

Yeah, but what does it matter if there are mass votes at the last second (which is within the rules and basically happens anyway) The vast majority of hosts I'd bet don't do most of the prep until at least a few hours after the deadline - I certainly didn't. The more votes the better. Why should it matter if someone submits twenty minutes late if it doesn't affect the prep at all?

The deadline is there for a reason - to make sure everyone votes. The only reason I can think of practically to reject votes is either if it inconveniences the host greatly to have to accept them or if they come after results have started. Why does it at all matter if they didn't obey the deadline if the votes are in and the host isn't majorly inconvenienced by it?

Surprisingly low amounts of 'OMG THE RESULTS R 2 MINUTES L8 !!!11!1!'* or that ilk tonight. This can only be a good thing

*until now

Ett mirakel som kallas "Danday* iz late"!
