March 3, 201214 yr Considering he's done 95k-ish each of the last two weeks, 80k wouldn't really be that impressive :P I'm hoping he'll manage a third week over 90k. Even 65k would still see him take over as YTD #1 tomorrow.
March 3, 201214 yr I don't actually know anyone who likes Ed Sheeran except for a few 16 year old girls such as my cousins. I've never met a boy who's liked him. Well, we were all fond of him when he first released A-team, but then it got so overplayed, overrated and boring. His demographic is girls aged 14-18, then perhaps 40+ who find it nice hearing something else in the charts. I would much rather listen to Bon Iver because his music sounds interesting. The other person I want success for his year, but without being 'Ed Sheeran' over played, is Michael Kiwanuka, but we'll see.
March 3, 201214 yr Gotye going from 3k ahead on Wednesday to 13k ahead today is most pleasing. :D At this rate, he might even end up 20k ahead by close of Saturday. :D 'STIUTK' to sell another 90k plus? :D (noticed the lead on iTunes is quite large too) Some pointless trivia for all BJSC fans. 3k = 3rd place in TBO 13k = 13th place in BJSC XXXIIV It is a sign. :D I reckon he'll be about 30k ahead when we get sales
March 3, 201214 yr It's funny how the majority of people that made Ed Sheeran big are people well outside the usual demographic for that type of music (i.e. rap fans)
March 3, 201214 yr I thought I'd seen that somewhere before. JKAC IN PLAGIARISM SCANDAL That's nothing. Mikey plagiarises somebody else 1 in every 10 posts guaranteed. :D I reckon he'll be about 30k ahead when we get sales I'm hoping for 100k sales this week. :D For a track to achieve that level of sales figures in its 8th (or 9th?) week on the chart is incredible. Just had a weird thought, I wonder if anyone thought 'Think Twice' by Celine Dion selling over 100k whilst at #1 was incredible at the time considering it'd been around for ages before topping the chart.

March 3, 201214 yr We discussed this before, but it must be very rare for songs not held back to climb to sales of over 100,000. In recent years I can only think of Someone Like You, What's My Name? and Meet Me Halfway.
March 3, 201214 yr Yeah I dont get why people try to stereotype an artists fanbase. Ed has so many male fans, everyone I know really likes him. If we are generalizing his fanbase though, it's more young-adult dominated, i'd say 18-24 would be the main age group of fans. He's not exactly a typical artist who would have a huge female fanbase, he's not exactly good looking, sexy, stylish or anything.. Edited March 3, 201214 yr by Karma
March 3, 201214 yr I think Ed Sheeran has a very wide fanbase (which is why he's so successful). Same with Jessie J, Bruno Mars, Rihanna, Adele, etc. You'll find all those artists being played on adult contemporary stations (e.g. Heart FM) alongside Michael Buble, Christina Perri, James Morrison, etc. and you'll also find them being played on urban radio stations (e.g. Radio 1Xtra) alongside Nero, Drake, Lil Wayne, Magnetic Man, etc. So they appeal to a wide range of people.
March 3, 201214 yr I think both Karma and Eric make valid points. Ed Sheeran isn't your typical picture perfect male artist so perhaps young lads see him and hear his music (and considering some of the lyrical content and themes) and think he's cool. He's making music that appeals to boys as well as girls. Teenage girls are irrelevant. They just see men (in general) on TV and find them sexy or attractive. Even Jarvis Cocker once said in an interview shown on MTV2 he was bewildered at the amount of young girls who suddenly found him attractive once Pulp became famous. Girls can be shalow as... I also remember one young girl who was friends with my neice saying something along the lines of "is it wrong I find Gordon Brown sexy". No joke. I shrieked in absolute horror. She was 17 at the time.
March 3, 201214 yr My theory is that men only care about looks in a woman, whilst women care more about things such as possessions, power, personality, social status, wealth, etc. So any man that is famous would have flocks of girls after him, even if he isn't very good-looking (but obviously being physically attractive helps).
March 3, 201214 yr So what are the chances of Man Or Muppet scraping into the top 40 tomorrow, would be amazing if it did
March 3, 201214 yr So what are the chances of Man Or Muppet scraping into the top 40 tomorrow, would be amazing if it did I can't see it getting close to the top 40, but I could be wrong. I'm expecting a #55-65 position for this week. On the topic of Ed Sheeran, his fame came about as the result of rap/grime fans - Devlin, Example and many other 'underground'/emerging rappers encouraged support from their fans, once 'The A Team' kicked in, he began to establish his own fanbase, but I don't think he lost the original one - hence why his tracks (bar You Need Me, I Don't Need You) have had such longevity in the charts.
