February 27, 201214 yr Author Midweek Charts: Adele and Sande neck and neck Source: MW 15:50 | Wednesday February 29, 2012 By Paul Williams Emeli Sande is in hot pursuit of Adele to top the UK artist albums chart this coming weekend as Gotye and Dappy fight to head the singles countdown. Although the XL-issued 21 has taken an early lead in its pursuit of a 22nd week at number one on albums, it was little more than 1,100 sales ahead of Sande’s Virgin debut Our Version Of Events by the end of business on Tuesday, according to Official Charts Company Data. Also not far behind is Ed Sheeran who, like Adele and Sande, was a Brits winner last week and he continues to benefit from his double victory with Asylum/Atlantic debut + currently the week’s third biggest artist album. With Polydor’s Lana Del Rey album Born To Die still in fourth place the top four albums in this new chart week are presently in exactly the same order as they were on last Sunday’s final chart, while Island act Gotye slips 5-6 with Making Mirrors. However, Gotye has a good chance of extending his run at the top of the singles chart to a third non-consecutive week with Somebody That I Used To Know featuring Kimbra as on the latest Sales Flashes it is around 3,000 sales ahead of Dappy featuring Brian May’s AATW/Island-issued Rockstar, which is showing up as a new entry at two. Back on the albums chart and Meat Loaf’s Sony album Hell In A Handbasket looks like becoming his 10th studio effort to reach the UK Top 10 as it is currently the week’s fifth top seller and highest-placed new release. It is joined in the 10 at number 10 by an EMI re-issue of Pink Floyd’s 1979 classic double album The Wall. Parlophone act Coldplay’s Mylo Xyloto drifts 6-7, while sales of Sony’s Whitney Houston retrospective The Essential Whitney Houston have more than doubled on the week to lift it 17-8. XL’s first Adele album 19 completes the Top 10 places in the week so far by moving 7-9. While the Ting Tings’ first Columbia album We Started Nothing debuted at number one in May 2008, its newly-issued follow-up Sounds From Nowheresville is at this point of the week starting life in 13th position. Cooking Vinyl’s first Cranberries album Roses appears as a new entry at 27 in the latest midweeks, while other new entries include a David Sylvian retrospective from Virgin and new sets from Hospital’s High Contrast, Steamhammer’s UFO and Full Time Hobby’s School Of Seven Bells. Joining Gotye and Dappy in the week so far’s top three singles is Emeli Sande whose Virgin single Next To Me slips 2-3, while Atlantic act Flo Rida’s Wild Ones featuring Sia holds at four and Ministry of Sound’s former chart-topper Hot Right Now by DJ Fresh featuring Rita Ora drops 3-5. Brighton Christian worship leader and songwriter Matt Redman could be heading for a Top 10 entry this Sunday with his single Twenty Seven Million with L27. The single, issued on the Six Steps label via EMI, is the week to date’s eighth top seller, while also expect new entries this weekend from Regal/Parlophone’s Chiddy Bang, Popcultur/Columbia’s Madeon, Domino’s Arctic Monkeys, Hollywood/Polydor’s Demi Lovato and a Ministry of Sound combination of Utah Saints, Drumsound and Bassline. =================================================== Wednesday Update Top 40 Only Source: Radio 1/OCC - 4pm Top 40 Singles Source: OCC =================================================== Top 40 Albums Source: OCC
February 27, 201214 yr Author Midweek Charts update: Sande overtakes Adele Source: MW 12:28 | Friday March 2, 2012 By Paul Williams Emeli Sande has moved ahead of Adele in the race to top the UK artist albums chart this weekend, but there are only a few hundred sales separating them. Sande’s Virgin album Our Version Of Events is now the week so far’s top-selling artist album, having been behind the XL-issued 21 all week, but its lead is so narrow that either title could end up at number one on Sunday. Ed Sheeran’s Asylum/Atlantic album + is a few thousand sales further behind in third place, according to Official Charts Company Data, while Polydor act Lana Del Rey is fourth with Born To Die and Meat Loaf’s new Sony album Hell In A Handbasket is appearing as a new entry at five. And the late Whitney Houston’s RCA-handled The Essential likes like moving into the Top 10 with its sales up 89% by the close of business on Thursday to move it 17-7 on the midweeks. The picture on the singles chart is a lot clearer with Island act Gotye around 13,000 sales ahead at the top with Somebody That I Used To Know featuring Kimbra, while the AATW/Island-issued Rockstar by Dappy featuring Brian May is new at two. Emeli Sande’s Next To Me drops 2-3, Atlantic act Flo Rida featuring Sia’s Wild Ones holds at four and DJ Fresh featuring Rita Ora’s Ministry of Sound single Hot Right Now reverses 3-5. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Friday Update Top 40 Only Singles 1 Gotye/Kimbra (13k ahead) 2 Dappy 3 Emeli 4 Flo Rida/Sia 5 DJ Fresh/Rita Ora Top 10 Nicki Minaj 8 Kelly Clarkson Ed Sheeran Top 15 Matt Redman/LZ7 Chiddy Bang 14 Rizzle Kicks Top 20 Madeon Top 30 22 Arctic Monkeys Jason Derulo Utah Saints 29 Jay-Z & Kanye West Demi Lovato ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Albums 1 Emeli Sande 2 Adele 3 Ed Sheeran 4 Lana Del Rey 5 Meat Loaf Top 10 Whitney Houston Top 20 Pink Floyd [Wall] Rizzle Kicks Black Keys 20 Ting Tings Top 30 Ben Howard Jay-Z & Kanye West Cranberries Christina Perri 30 Kelly Clarkson Top 40 High Contrast Maccabees NO SALES INFO ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ARTIST UPDATES Singles Jessie J 4+5 Lana Del Rey [bTD] 7+7+7, [VG] 11+11+11 Rihanna [WFL] 20+8 Olly Murs 30+1 Coldplay [Paradise] 30+2, [CB] 30+7 Cher Lloyd 30+4 Maroon 5 30+6 Albums Gotye 3+3 Coldplay 4+4 Adele [19] 4+5 Noel Gallagher 6+6 Jessie J 7+7 One Direction 10+7 Olly Murs 11+11 Rihanna [TTT] 20+3, [Loud] 20+7 Rebecca 20+5 Katy Perry 30+1 Nicki Minaj 30+6 ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Top 40 Only Singles 1 Gotye/Kimbra 2 Dappy 3 Emeli 4 Flo Rida/Sia 5 DJ Fresh/Rita Ora Top 10 Nicki Minaj 8 Kelly Clarkson Ed Sheeran Top 15 Matt Redman/LZ7 Chiddy Bang 14 Rizzle Kicks Top 20 Madeon Top 30 22 Arctic Monkeys Jason Derulo Utah Saints 29 Jay-Z & Kanye West Demi Lovato ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Albums 1 Emeli Sande 2 Adele 3 Ed Sheeran 4 Lana Del Rey 5 Meat Loaf Top 10 Whitney Houston Top 20 Pink Floyd [Wall] Rizzle Kicks Black Keys 20 Ting Tings Top 30 Ben Howard Jay-Z & Kanye West Cranberries Christina Perri 30 Kelly Clarkson Top 40 High Contrast Maccabees NO SALES INFO ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ARTIST UPDATES Singles Jessie J 4+5 Lana Del Rey [bTD] 7+7+7, [VG] 11+11+11 Rihanna [WFL] 20+8 Olly Murs 30+1 Coldplay [Paradise] 30+2, [CB] 30+7 Cher Lloyd 30+4 Maroon 5 30+6 Albums Gotye 3+3 Coldplay 4+4 Adele [19] 4+5 Noel Gallagher 6+6 Jessie J 7+7 One Direction 10+7 Olly Murs 11+11 Rihanna [TTT] 20+3, [Loud] 20+7 Rebecca 20+5 Katy Perry 30+1 Nicki Minaj 30+6
February 28, 201214 yr Author Gotye for a 3rd week please and hopefully beat Marcus Collins next week with his White Stripes cover but somehow I can see Marcus at #1 next week :( . Dappy's track doesn't seem #1 material to me. Emeli Sande should be able to re-take the #1 album this week.
February 28, 201214 yr Gotye for a 3rd week please and hopefully beat Marcus Collins next week with his White Stripes cover but somehow I can see Marcus at #1 next week :( I *wondered* why the Whte Stripes had climbed back close to the iT top 100... All I need to do now is find out WTF this Marcus Collins is... :P
February 28, 201214 yr I *wondered* why the Whte Stripes had climbed back close to the iT top 100... All I need to do now is find out WTF this Marcus Collins is... :P OK, I just youtubed his song, and it is bloody awful! :puke: Meg & Jack should take the master copy of this cover & beat him to death with it! ;) Edited February 28, 201214 yr by vidcapper
February 28, 201214 yr Author https://twitter.com/#!/TheDappy/status/...444674893885441 Dappy is 70 copies behind at #2
February 28, 201214 yr Gotye should have number 1 in the bag then - as i'd imagine Dappy's sales to decrease throughout the week.
February 28, 201214 yr dappy is far too close for my liking. Na he will never get the number one now - I fully expected him to be number one today.
February 28, 201214 yr Realistically, I can't see Dappy actually increasing relative to Gotye during the week lol. On the positive side, since Gotye is probably going to get about 100,000, Dappy should be 70,000 minimum at the end of the week.
February 28, 201214 yr Dappy has no chance of the #1 spot if he's behind on today's update then, unless he dies (now there's a thought :o). He's already falling on iTunes as is his EP so its gone from his grasp now. Does this mean we don't have to suffer his album?
February 28, 201214 yr Gotye for a 3rd week please and hopefully beat Marcus Collins next week with his White Stripes cover but somehow I can see Marcus at #1 next week :( . to think people were whinging at the possibility of Dappy going to number 1, THAT would truly be hitting rock bottom  I think there's a chance he'll miss it though, hopefully Dappy not number 1 today pretty much means that Gotye has it in the bag :D
February 28, 201214 yr OK, I just youtubed his song, and it is bloody awful! :puke: Meg & Jack should take the master copy of this cover & beat him to death with it! ;) I agree with this. To me, Seven Nation Army is almost among the list of "sacred" tracks that should never be covered. Especially when it's such a weak version as this. :(
February 28, 201214 yr I prefer this to Dappy's last single, but I'd rather that scumbag didn't claim another #1 regardless.
February 28, 201214 yr Come on Gotye! And do people seriously think Marcus Collins stands a chance at getting #1 - R1 have snubbed it, heard it on Heart the other day - but can't see the general population warming to it, the instrumental from the original is too well known. Hoping Gotye can hold on to the top spot until March 11 though, when Alexandra Burke releases 'Elephant'.
February 28, 201214 yr I think Marcus could throw up a surprise, of course I've seen and heard nothing but negative reactions towards it but did that stop 'Swagger Jagger'? I don't quite see it at #1 but stranger things have happened.
February 28, 201214 yr No way Marcus will get #1. If any of the new releases get #1 it'll be StooShe (that'd be quite funny actually if they geta #1 straight away while The Saturdays never got one :P) but really I think Gotye is fairly certain to just hold on for a fourth week. 'Elephant' could stop him from getting a fifth week but even then I wouldn't be surprised if it stalls at #2 - STIUTK could end up like reverse Moves Like Jagger  Although I suppose We Found Love was already like that. February 28, 201214 yr 'Elephant'? Does that even have a shot of making the top 10 at the rate it's going?
