I remember a thread a while ago where someone predicted it would be over 4 million by the end of 2011. A lot of people were skeptical or saying it would need a big extra push to do it, however it's got there pretty much entirely naturally with no real obvious tactics, and as already said not even a 'complete' campaign so far. It's basically the album that keeps surprising, so I wouldn't want to make any predictions about how much more it will sell

That said, is there any news on a deluxe yet? If not, I'm kinda surprised her label haven't pushed for a deluxe version just to at least TRY and attempt to make it the biggest-selling album ever (or maybe there are board meetings as we speak) - even though, if it did make it, it would probably only hold it for a couple of years at best, as a Greatest Hits set will always sell more outside of a campaign than a studio set, it'd still be something from a marketing perspective for her next album (just imagine the adverts - "the follow-up to the biggest selling album EVER")

Sgt. Pepper's doesn't have any singles does it?

What makes it remarkable is that all of the other albums (bar perhaps 'Morning Glory') are all old enough to have had a significant amount of re-buyers, how many people in the last 20 years will have bought Dark Side of the Moon or Sgt Peppers on CD who owned it on vinyl when they were younger? However I guess that's cancelled out by how cheap and easily available it is compared to the rest up there.

It's a good point actually, "Morning Glory" suffers from being the only one where the vast majority of buyers would only purchase it on one format. Then again, I've heard of people ending up buying several copies of it just because they forgot to take one with them on a long journey somewhere. THAT's culturally significant in a whole new realm that Adele will struggle to match regardless of whether she beats Oasis' sales.

'Rumour Has It' could still become a fourth hit off '21' if they actually try to make it one. It seems to be doing well in the USA so far where it's confirmed for a release, going to radio in March (there's also apparently going to be a video - it's a bit ridiculous that that's actually SURPRISING considering 99% of single releases have music videos).

Plus 'Turning Tables' could become a fairly well-known song in its own right just as a 'fan favourite' sort of thing even if it doesn't get a single release.

 They never told us that 21 had indeed overtaken Madonna becming the best selling album by a female artist.. And usually they make headlines about everything irrelevant.

MusicWeek did say though.

DSOTM spawned only two singles, Thriller eight. I guess 21 is in the middle.

Although DSOTM spawned no singles in the UK (AFAIK)

So 21's sales won't increase at all when she releases a new album?

It will, but it's not going to get anywhere near a million extra sales. 90% of the people who buy Adele's next album will already have 21, there will be a very small market of people to buy it again.

I know this is quite unrelated but I think Adele's third album could break Oasis' first week sales record, or at least get 2nd on that list ahead of Progress, if she releases it in Q4 of this year (she is apparently back in the studio now so it's a possibility).

The part I was disputing was "another million on what it has now at the least" purely on the back of the success of the next album.

I agree, in general but then I have to ask myself why would she not sell another million in the next few years? 21 has not performed as other albums have. It has been unpredictably successful so I feel that no one can really say that it wont sell another million in say the next 3 years.....

The Immaculate Collection I see in shops all the time. And really cheap... Unless it got taken out of the archives?

It's been charting on the budget album chart for the last 6 weeks. It's also showing as being the 74th biggest selling album of the year to date.

It's certainly true that Adele has torn up the rule book. It's hard to make any predictions based on past precedent. The one reasonably safe prediction is that sales of her third album will be phenomenal unless she releases a real stinker of a lead single.

Not a chance. She's yet to overtake "Morning Glory"'s overall sales and has nowhere near the same devoted fanbase who are likely to buy the album in its first week. 600k maximum, and remember "Be Here Now" did 660k in three days which I doubt will ever be matched.

71st now, by my estimates.

I think 21 will eventually become the best-selling album of all time in the UK.

I'm 99.9% sure 21 will become the biggest selling album in the UK of all time, give it 2 years, its there.

Guys it hasnt even gone on sale, imagine the sales when its selling for £5, this album isnt leaving the top 10 anytime soon either (it's back at #1! Insane), its going to continue selling consistently all year.

I have no doubt whatsoever that Adele will at the least move up to 4th place ahead of Oasis and possibly move into 3rd over a longer period of time.

I am actually quiet shocked in one sense that the biggest selling album is a greatest hits package and also that two different greatest hits make up the top 3. That said, in those days greatest hits were real greatest hits by artists with extensive catalogues to offer and furthermore greatest hits releases were not as common as they are today. It is my belief there will never be a greatest hits to rival the sales of Abba and Queen. That said, Take Thats Ultimate Collection has sold 2.1 million which is excellent considering it the same tracklisting as the original million selling greatest hits but with 1 extra song. My point is if there is an extensive back catalogue to work from a greatest hits i guess can still sell very well. On the other hand those artists that release 3 studio albums then a greatest hits will never sell in big numbers.

If we remove 'Greatest Hits' Albums then '21' is the 6th Best Selling Studio Album, in the UK.

If we make a Top 10 based on 'Hits' Albums only, then Queen, (1st - Greatest Hits (One), & 3rd - Greatest Hits II),

& ABBA, (2nd - 'Gold', & 'Greatest Hits' - 7th), are the only 2 Acts, with 2 Albums, in that Top 10.

'Waterloo', 'SOS', 'Mamma Mia', & 'Fernando', are on both of those ABBA Albums, so with their Sales on those, &

on Singles Disk, & on other ABBA Albums, those 4 Tracks must be the biggest selling Songs in UK Chart History.

(Not to mention their Sales on Various Artists Compilations).

There is no way it will sell more than Oasis' 600k+ or Take That's Progress that sold 520k.

When Oasis sold that many we were buying music completely differently to the way we do now. That record will never be overtaken.

Take That's 520k sales of Progress in a week was absolutely phenomenal and that wont be touched either.

Adele's third album could underwelm completely as is the case with many artists who have a successful album. They always find it hard to match or better it. I think you can expect 350k sales of her next album in opening week. It wont sell enough to trouble Take That or Oasis as the top two and wouldnt deserve to either as they are sensational albums in their own right
