Posted March 4, 201213 yr _WESPTe8ddU Really liking it on first listen, very We Found Love which was probably to be expected. I think I actually prefer the synths in the verses (the melody to which REALLY reminds me of something) to the main riff in the chorus. Either way this will be a huge #1, or maybe #2 judging by Calvin's luck with Bounce and Feel So Close! Good to hear Ne-Yo on a decent song for the first time in a while.
March 4, 201213 yr I'd have thought that Ne-Yo was exactly the kind of artist that Calvin wouldn't want to work with, but I guess with his newfound success in America, the label will have more and more input as to who he should work with. It's alright on first listen, but it sounds just like Alexandra Burke's "Elephant", which is nothing new by any stretch of the imagination.
March 4, 201213 yr FINALLY a follow-up to Feel So Close! Even if we count We Found Love as the follow-up, you would have thought we'd have heard the 'fourth' single long before now surely. Edited March 4, 201213 yr by Engelbré
March 4, 201213 yr Not really feeling it. After Bounce & Feel So Close (and We Found Love I guess) I would've expected something a lot better.
March 4, 201213 yr Why would Calvin not want to work with Ne-Yo? If it weren't for Ne-Yo, Calvin might not even be having a career in the US atm. Anyway, this is much better than the awful Give Me Everything, that's for sure. :D
March 4, 201213 yr If it weren't for Ne-Yo, Calvin might not even be having a career in the US atm. A big thank you to Ne-Yo for helping 'Feel So Close' to be doing so well in the US right now. :D

Erm, how exactly...? And he might not want to work with him, because Ne-Yo's been pushing out crap "dance" songs for the past two years... (And Calvin is a snob as to who he works with) Edited March 4, 201213 yr by THEO.
March 4, 201213 yr A big thank you to Ne-Yo for helping 'Feel So Close' to be doing so well in the US right now. :D Um, yes, because Ne-Yo was one of the artists to mainstream dance music. There was a time a few years ago where songs like Calvin's would not have been played on US radio. Thanks to artists like Ne-Yo, Timbaland, 50 Cent, Justin Timberlake, Akon, etc. dance and electro music is now mainstream again. And also, Ne-Yo writes a lot of Rihanna's songs, so another vague connection would be that Rihanna might not have been so popular if it weren't for Ne-Yo, and hence We Found Love might not have been such a big hit (domino effect and everything). But that's stretching it, mainly the first reason. Edited March 4, 201213 yr by Eric_Blob
March 4, 201213 yr But, Ne-Yo, Timbaland, 50 Cent and Akon didn't make electro music? When everything is RnB dominated, you can't just release Party Rock Anthem and have it be a hit. It has to be a gradual thing. Slowly incorporating elements over the years. They all made electro/dance music. Akon did songs like Smack That and Just Dance, and so on. He was incorporating synths and dance elements into urban songs, paving the way for pure dance songs like Party Rock Anthem, etc. For example: 9Jv8--KZUBA nthSdIi5qC0
March 4, 201213 yr I can kind of see where Eric is coming from. The US market was SO urban heavy, and then artists like Justin Timberlake came out with tracks such as Sexyback with dance influences and that sound slowly became more popular. I wouldn't include Ne-Yo though, his only real hit in the US with the 'dance' sound was Closer, as Miss Independent and Mad were R&B.
March 4, 201213 yr It's a boring track, nothing amazing and way to much similar to We Found Love. I like WFL but not that much.

Much like What's My Name? Sexy Back was definitely a big one. A lot of Justin Timberlake fans hated it, because of the electro beat, the autotune, crummy lyrics, etc. That type of music has become completely normal now. Edited March 4, 201213 yr by Eric_Blob

Well, yes, I can sort of see it too - but I wouldn't say that Calvin Harris owes his popularity to people like Ne-Yo, because just including synths in your song doesn't make people go OOH I LIKE PROPER DANCE MUSIC.
March 4, 201213 yr Yeah, Miss Independent is RnB, but it's very synth heavy. Much like What's My Name? Synths do not equal dance though :P

Well, clearly it doesn't. As I said, it's a gradual thing. Including synths and getting a big hit makes other artists and producers include synths in songs, and so on. Synths do not equal dance though :P Yeah. I wouldn't call What's My Name? a dance song. But David Guetta, Calvin Harris, etc. use a lot of synths, they needed it popularized for them. March 7, 201213 yr Author I think I actually prefer the synths in the verses (the melody to which REALLY reminds me of something) to the main riff in the chorus. Got it, the verse melody is like a dance version of Let Me Sleep by S Club  RCUXVGcT1HI
March 7, 201213 yr I never really rated 'We Found Love' that highly, 'Bounce' was a huge disappointment considering both artists involved are capapble of way better but 'Feel So Close' was utterly majestic. This on the first listen is fairly mediocre, maybe a grower?
