June 13, 201213 yr Author The consultation on proposals to allow gay couples to have a civil marriage opened today. No doubt many people will oppose the proposals after being encouraged to do so by various religious leaders (despite the fact that the proposals are only about civil marriage and, thus will not affect religious ceremonies) so it is important that people who support the proposals also respond. You can add your views - it doesn't take long and it is completely anonymous - here This consultation closes tomorrow. If you support gay marriage and haven't responded yet, please take a few minutes to do so. If you don't support the idea, the consultation closed yesterday :P
June 15, 201213 yr I actually think it's pretty easy if the subject doesn't directly affect you just to ignore it and hope other people respond - in relation to the home office survey thingy. Although, just because I don't want to marry a girl doesn't mean I don't have a view on it. I think in the most basic sense marriage is a union between 2 people that love each other. Gender is irrelevant I feel, and sometimes I actually feel embarrassed that we hear so much about how we're so sophisticated and evolved in this age, but gay marriage is still not allowed - baffling. Such a well developed civilisation we are, apparently... So aye, in short I gave my views on it in support of gay marriage. I was actually made a bit more hopeful on the topic to find that the home office were actually trying to form a concencus on the matter.

May 21, 201312 yr That is a hell of a lot of out of touch people. Not surprising three of the Labour No voters are from the West of Scotland tbh.
May 21, 201312 yr I'm finding the amount of Tory MPs who voted against it slightly amusing. Not surprising that my local MP voted against it though, urgh. :puke:
May 21, 201312 yr Author Interesting that some of the Tories (David Davis, Richard Shepherd) who voted against have a generally good record on civil liberties but have some sort of mental block when it comes to rights for gay men and lesbians. Whether any of them went as far as that old dinosaur Norman Tebbit, I don't know. He has been babbling on about fathers marrying their sons in order to avoid inheritance tax. He seems to have overlooked the fact that such marriages would be just as illegal as a father marrying his daughter.
May 21, 201312 yr Tebbit is a reprehensible human being of the highest order, so I'm not surprised. Not that it's relevant, but I'd love to see how many of those Tory MPs are in the closet.
May 21, 201312 yr Wow, Ronnie Campbell voted against it last time. I wonder why he changed his vote?
May 21, 201312 yr Author Wow, Ronnie Campbell voted against it last time. I wonder why he changed his vote? It may be that he didn't vote at all. I don't have a full list of MPs voting in favour yet.

"I’ve been looking at the Coalition for Equal Marriage’s website, and their list of MPs who intend to vote against allowing gay people to marry on Tuesday. I note with interest the names of several MPs who most people in the Westminster Village know to be closet case gays. And I note also the names of two supposedly straight MPs who I know to be conducting gay affairs at the moment. I don’t believe in ‘outing’ anyone, but because of the rank hypocrisy there will be others who will take a different view." ( http://iaindale.com/posts/2013/02/02/the-q...-have-to-answer ) Iain Dale is no longer a paid up member of the Conservative party but he is still a Tory in all but name so it is interesting to see ho write this.
May 23, 201312 yr Labour MPs voting against Joe Benton (Bootle), Tom Clarke (Coatbridge, Chryston & Bellshill), Rosie Cooper (Lancashire West), David Crausby (Bolton North East), Jim Dobbin (Heywood & Middleton), Brian Donohoe (Ayrshire Central), Robert Flello (Stoke-on-Trent South), Mary Glindon (Tyneside North), Roger Godsiff (Birmingham Hall Green), Paul Goggins (Wythenshawe & Sale East), Ann McKechin (Glasgow North), George Mudie (Leeds East), Paul Murphy (Torfaen), Stephen Pound (Ealing North), Stephen Timms (East Ham) For the record, Ann McKechin voted in favour of gay marriage, not against.
May 23, 201312 yr Author For the record, Ann McKechin voted in favour of gay marriage, not against. OK. I took the names from the Pink News website so they must have made a mistake.
June 18, 201312 yr Whether any of them went as far as that old dinosaur Norman Tebbit, I don't know. He has been babbling on about fathers marrying their sons in order to avoid inheritance tax. He seems to have overlooked the fact that such marriages would be just as illegal as a father marrying his daughter. But they should not be ilegall... if two or more consenting adults love each other, why should the law forbid it. Why shouldn´t we demand "equal rights" for adult daugthers who are in love with their fathers or grandfathers?
June 18, 201312 yr But they should not be ilegall... if two or more consenting adults love each other, why should the law forbid it. Why shouldn´t we demand "equal rights" for adult daugthers who are in love with their fathers or grandfathers? Of course such relationships should be illegal. It's INCEST. It may go on in some third world countries or remote African villages but has no place in the civilised world.
June 18, 201312 yr I almost want to support it being legalised just because the OMGZZZ IT'S SO WRONG!!!1111 argument is so nonsensical. However, there are good reasons why it shouldn't be legal - health complications and likelihood of manipulation being the main two.
