Just the response I was waiting for...

Consider this - if a white artist were to write a song with 'Pikeys' in the title, I bet the police would be knocking at their door ASAP!

That's not racist, it's classist. So a white person using the word isn't necessarily going to have been discriminated against with that description.

Using 'niggas' as a self-descriptor works similarly to when gay people starting using the word 'queer' - taking an insult and claiming it as an empowering term instead.

Is Starships increasing or Gotye increasing? Also emeli/flo rida must be down to 40k in sales now if nos 5-7 are nearly even on the pop-up bars!!

Whatever happens next week, if Gotye has sales of around 60k NEXT week we could have a massive selling top 5, maybe the biggest in the download era?

In my opinion 'niggas' is a derogatory term whoever is using it.

Agreed. I hate that word.

But it *is* classed as discriminatory, and in the PC infected country we live in, it can get you into trouble with the law. My main beef is not to much with the words themselves, but the double-standard.

I don't really get how that's supposed to work, though?

If you understood how it worked you wouldn't think of it as discriminatory in this usage. Words are all about context and intention.

I love the song, but surely what's more offensive is the lyric: "got my niggas in paris, and they going gorrilas"... Unless i haven't actually understood what it means... :/

Well, yes - that was kinda my point. :P

I think Katy Perry has got a chance of the #1 single next week, and when was the last time the Sport Relief single gone to #1, to my record none of them made #1, so I think JLS will have to settle for a top 3 spot, otherwise its Gotye for another week. The top 5 will be very interesting next week.
Because Jay-Z & Kanye West are both black artists, so them using the word "ni**a" isn't racist. It would be racist if for example Eminem or Professor Green were using it to describe a black person.

In my opinion even if Eminem or Pro Green used the word (and I'm sure the former has), it wouldn't be racist. They are so clearly not racist that them saying a word wouldn't suddenly make me think they are. It depends on the context though.

Just saw that David Guetta is on Graham Norton tonight - Titanium top 5 again??Or maybe he'll perform the new single?

Is the new single Night Of Your Life? It could be such a big hit, love it!

Love how huge Wild Ones & Titanium have been, feel like they've been top 10 for ages now! Sia

Wonder if Sia will be on it too? Think Guettas new single is the one with Jessie J?

Agreed, I actually shudder inside every time I hear or see the word. On that basis alone I'd rather not see the song top 10, but on top of that the song itself is actually f***ing dreadful. Why are so many people championing it to go top 10?

Oh really? I thought Jessie J was releasing her one with Guetta, 'Laserlight'. I guess they'd be up against eachother if 'Repeat' was being released too

Yeah thats the one, wasnt sure if it was on hers or Guettas album though!!

Unbelievable how well 'Niggas in Paris' is doing!

Didn't think they'd really get a hit from this album, so glad though.

Definitely my favourite from the album, one of the best tracks of last year easily.

I want it top 10 because it's amazing. One of the catchiest songs in the top 100 easily, very different to everything else that's out. A huge grower. Much like Gotye's song in those respects. It's the sort of song that people will be referring back to for years imo.
