Does anyone think Alexandra will get another week in the Top 10?

I don't think she will unfortunately, which is a shame because the song is just starting to grow on me.

I actually disagree with that. If I remember correctly, in the Friday mid-weeks that week we had Adele only a small-ish number of copies behind the #1, and she was sitting at #1 on iTunes combined with like a 60% lead or something ridiculous, and 48 hours to close that small gap.

I'd say the week before was more unpredictable, with Jessie J/Chipmunk/Lady Gaga. Jessie and Chipmunk were quite close, and Lady Gaga had that massive release at the end of the week with an enourmous lead on iTunes. Lady Gaga ended up quite far behind in the end, but most of us were having difficulty estimating how much she was actually selling due to its mid-week release.

Other ones for me were JLS vs. Katy Perry vs. B.o.B. I LOVED Airplanes, and wanted it #1 really badly. JLS got to #1 on iTunes with a small lead and were #5 at the end of the week, and Katy and B.o.B were about equal the whole time. Judging by iTunes I thought JLS had a chance at missing #1 (since their lead was honestly never that big and they fell so far), but it turned out they were about 10,000 ahead still.

Also David Guetta vs. B.o.B. I wanted Fergie to get that #1 SO BAD. That was a really close week, and the Gettin' Over You remix took a long time to actually take off for some reason.

I wonder if we'll end up with a chart battle this week, but it's already looking quite clear to me that Katy is getting the #1. But it's nice to have a different #1 anyway.

Ah right, hadn't seen any of the sales updates that week, so I went into Sunday thinking it was gonna be really close

Back when Gettin' Over You was released, I thought it would be an easy No.1 initially, (i wasn't extensively following the charts back then) had no idea it was actually quite close to missing out!

Weren't LMFAO/Bruno Mars/David Guetta relatively close on sales last year (on LMFAO's fourth week)?

I think Part Of Me will hold up really well tbh, the video is getting released next week!

Katy always has fantastic videos, California Gurls is by far her best though.

Sean Paul  #6

I actually want Sean Paul to get to #1 now. I think it would be brilliantly random! Has he even had a number one before as a lead artist? 'Get Busy' and 'Like Glue' failed to get to #1 IIRC but I think 'Breathe' did - was he a featured artist though?

That is true. California Gurls, Hot N Cold, E.T., Firework and Last Friday Night all have ICONIC videos

I wish it was 'Got 2 Luv U' doing what 'She Doesn't Mind' is doing right now, that was far superior :(.

It's so random to see Sean Paul so high, especially when you see JLS below them! Who would have expected that?

Proud is a very weak song though. It's great that it's raising money for Sport Relief, but if Gold Forever couldn't get there than Proud certainly doesn't deserve it! And that's coming from someone who usually likes JLS.

I do like Part Of Me a lot aswell, but my favourite new release this week has to be Last Time. Brilliant song!

I think 'Thinking of You', 'Waking Up In Vegas' and 'Teenage Dream' are her three best videos - all for different reasons.

TOY had such a creative concept, WUIV was her most hilarious and TD has something about it that's brilliant - yes it's not the most original but the summery feel sells it to me.

Probably an unpopular opinion but I really dislike the TOTGA video now. It's just too sensationalistic. It doesn't even fit with the song. The song is about her boyfriend leaving her and making a new life for himself ("I heard you got your tattoo removed"/"saw you around town, singing the blues") - but the video is about her boyfriend dying after they fall out.

Point about boyband's albums - JLS are the only current generation boyband to have a massive selling album. One Direction's debut album was/is a big underperformance (certainly in my opinion anyway), failing to even come within 100k of JLS' opening and it's only sold, what, a third of JLS' total? I don't think it's even outsold 'Outta This World' yet. And then on top of that JLS have a third decent-selling album as well - Jukebox hasn't sold *that* much less than Up All Night itself AFAIA.

Plus One Direction have only had one big hit single and The Wanted have had three at a push if you count Lightning. The Wanted haven't done anything special album-wise. The only thing One Direction/The Wanted have over JLS is that they've had international success, but at the moment their domestic success is massively outweighed by JLS' and I'm sure JLS will try to crack America soon as there's a definite market for UK boybands now.

(I know JLS arguably only have one or two big hit singles as well but I'd think the majority of their singles discography has outsold 'Gotta Be You', 'One Thing' and every The Wanted single bar 'All Time Low', 'Glad You Came' and 'Lightning').

No, he's never had a number 1 solo - Breathe was Blu Cantrell's single, he was just a guest rap on it, but it's his only number 1 to date. For some reason I always think Baby Boy by Beyonce was number 1 too, but it's another near miss for him (it peaked at 2 I think).

Sean Paul has probably been on loads of remixes of #1s though. Seriously, he was being put on remixes to everything back then.

Yeah, surprising about Baby Boy. That was another massive tune you'd assume had got to #1.

Breathe was an amazing song too. Really such a summer anthem. And it sampling Dr. Dre and Eminem DIDN'T HURT my liking for it.

He has such an amazing discography really (at least in my opinion).

 8. Last Time - Labrinth

 9. Proud - JLS

Huh. Ain't that some shit.

(Last Time is my favourite of the new releases though so WOO I guess - I'm just really surprised to see it re-overtaking 'Proud'!)

Up All Night definitely underperformed, I agree with that. Sure it has sold very well for a debut album, but looking at the absulute MASSIVE hype around them I expected the album to sell around the same amount as JLS' debut album. But it's not even close and like you already said, it hasn't even outsold their second album yet!

And the singles after that haven't done that well either. I think One Shot has easily outsold both Gotta Be You and One Thing.

I know this isn't going to happen but actual lol if JLS stalled now and just plumetted (I know it's for charity but the song is awful)
I think part of the reason One Direction's first album had "poor" sales was because their album-selling single (Gotta Be You) didn't really do very well, whilst JLS's (Everybody in Love) was a big hit.

Katy Perry has a certain something, I don't know what, that stops her from being generic imo.

When I think generic, I think The Saturdays, David Guetta, JLS, Bruno Mars, Alexandra Burke, Pixie Lott, Jessie J - even Rihanna at times. Now I love most of those (JLS are average and Bruno is just good, plus David has absolute shite in his discography) but they are generic. I don't see Katy as generic though, even if some of her songs (for example Part Of Me, Teenage Dream and Last Friday Night) are awfully generic, she manages to make them unique in her own way.

I would completely disagree, I would say Katy is the most generic out of the 3 big pop stars being her, rihanna and gaga.

The only song that I personally think isn't generic is 'ET', but the rest are generic. I do like 'TOTGA' and I can deal with LFNTGIF, but her other singles, are completely generic. Not that its bad but I was watching her on Lets Dance last night and it hit me how generic she really is.
