Voulez Vous lower than Super Trouper? :(

As far as album title track hits go, VV is essential for me. It does get a little repetitive after the whole song but the entire opening (and the instrumental) is glorious. It's definitely in my ABBA top 10 actually, but thankfully it's the first of those to appear, I suspect the rest will be much higher. Super Trouper is just a little basic for me to really enjoy hugely as a track.

Mamma Mia is in about the right position I think, there were far better tracks to name a musical after! It's still GOOD, but not that good. And Honey Honey is wonderful early ABBA, one I've always loved, I think it'd fit quite nicely in my top 20. The only other one of those I'm really familiar with is He Is Your Brother which is slightly less good early ABBA, serviceable, but that's about it.

Super Trouper wins over Voulez-Vous on the strength of the SU-PA-PA-TROO-PA-PA backing vox *.*

As one would expect I think you'll approve of most of what is still to come, although the Agnetha stuff may well be new to you - if so you're in for a TREAT with her highest placed track *.*

#40 - ABBA - Waterloo

The song that turned ABBA into superstars - even if took a year for them to finally cement that status once and for all. It just makes my top 40 for a few reasons. In the grand pantheon of Eurovision it's far from the best winner, I can name 7/8 I prefer and that's just off the top of my head. It's obviously very catchy and everything, but in light of what was to come it's just so BASIC. It's a little like what Like A Virgin is to Madonna, both defining songs of the acts, but both went onto much bigger and much better things in their subsequent careers.

#39 - ABBA - S.O.S.

Speaking of what made them superstars, here's where it began in earnest in the UK, SOS was the first in their run of smash hits that ran all the way to 1981 and One Of Us. It did sit a lot higher a few years back, but I think I killed it a little playing it so much. It's just effortlessly catchy and the production, whilst also very simple, is so effective.

Oh and I'm rather partial to the video too *zooms in on Agnetha from top of a cliff*

#38 - Frida - To Turn The Stone

The team behind many of Donna Summer's biggest disco hits of the late 70's (Pete Belotte and Giorgio Moroder) wrote this gorgeous number for Frida's debut post ABBA album. It was a single somewhere, but did little to nothing in any country. It's much more understated that it's predecessor, and far more melodic to boot. It's a bit of a VIBE SONG really. It's 5 minutes long, but over 3 minutes of that is music with no words. It's a very captivating instrumental though and I could totally see it soundtracking some adventure film.

#37 - Agnetha Faltskog - I Stand Alone

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/a/ac/Agnetha_Fältskog_-_I_Stand_Alone.jpg

Obviously Agnetha is afraid of flying, but in 1986/87 she made a rare trip to LA to record this, her last album for the best part of 2 decades. She herself said the trip was worth it and I would be inclined to agree. It's, for me, her best solo English album. It moved away from the bubbly European 80's sound to a slightly more AC US-centric 80's sound, which I think really works with her voice. This isn't the last song from the album to feature in the list though.

#36 - ABBA - Lovers (Live A Little Longer)

Once again we find ourselves back in 1979 and DISCO ABBA. Lovers features some of the most MANIC backing vocals on ABBA song, due to their production technique of off setting vocals and layering them up it sounds like Agnetha is singing on helium at 10 times speed, which is really quite ridiculous if you ever 'oops' the song and listen to it that way. In normal form, it's yet another near perfect slice of disco joy *.*

I've been listening as I go along, they have some divine tracks. I never bothered to go beyond their singles, silly me.

Eagle is far too low though, my favourite by them

There's still a whole pile of album GEMS to come Regina so keep your listening ears on.

Oh dear, there goes my favourite and another of my top 5. Waterloo is just effortless, my favourite used to be switching all the time but I think I've settled on going for the one that started it all off (nearly my favourite Eurovision winner as well, but Ruslana and maybe Loreen do challenge it from time to time) and I'm really partial to a bit of SOS whenever I hear it.

At least two of the others I'm guessing are in your top 10 so I'm not ready to give up yet though. :D

Lovers (Live A Little Longer) is such a brilliant track

I had a feeling SOS would be BIG WITH EYES, it is glorious.

It's probably a lot of peoples favourite winner but I'd go with something like this:

01 Take Me To Your Heaven (it might as well be ABBA)

02 Vivo Cantando

03 Ne Partez Pas Sans Moi

04 A-Ba-Ni-Bi

05 Save Your Kisses For Me

06 Running Scared

07 Making Your Mind Up

08 Waterloo

09 Molitva

10 La Det Swinge

# 58 - Kisses Of Fire (Great cheesy song)

# 57 - Fernando (Don't like it, my least favourite song from ABBA)

# 55 - Voulez-Vous (B-side "Angeleyes" is prefer for me)

# 53 - Head Over Heels (Very good, I like the lyrics)

# 51 - Super Trouper (Not a fan, very overrated)

# 50 - When I Kissed The Teacher (One from my favourites, very cute video. This song and "That's Me" are the best songs on "Arrival" for me. Missed single)

# 47 - Disillusion (Very underrated solo Agnetha song, one from two beautiful ballads from my favourite album "Ring Ring", another - "I Am Just A Girl")

# 45 - Honey Honey (I adore "That's Me" and "When I Kissed The Teacher", but this song is ABBA's peak in my eyes)

# 42 - Mamma Mia (Another very overrated song)

# 41 - Hasta Manana (Never was a huge fan of album "Waterloo" in summary, only "ABBA" was worse, but like "Hasta Manana", "Waterloo" and "Honey Honey")

# 40 - Waterloo (Last song, which I like from "Waterloo" album" are fallen. Very low position)

Voulez-Vous not even in the top40?

:(

THIS. And SOS only just scraping the top 40  I'm going to have to do my own ranking soon.

Also Super Trouper (the song) is awful. You can tell it's an afterthought.

Not at all!

Waterloo

Oh then I hope you'll be equally as receptive to a few of the solo efforts still to come.
