I am loving this album. Wasn't really keen on the Night Work era personally so this is the best thing they've done since the debut for me.

Night Work was their best album IMHO :o This is still fab though. And yes I'm 99% sure Baby Come Home is the next single.
Agree with Silas and SKOB, I wasn't into the Night Work era at all but this album is very instant, strong melodic but quirky pop which is all I'd look for with Scissor Sisters.
I do love NW as well but it's more of a one piece in their discography than a defining album. Their debut and MH go much deeper into their philosophy.

Magic Hour didn't chart in Germany. I'm shocked.

I've just listened to the album for the first time, it's nothing special really :( Hopefully it might grow on me. The best track is the first single, Only The Horses.

I wish they'd produce an album as good as the debut again. Laura, Filthy Gorgeous, Take Your Mama, It Can't Come Quickly Enough, etc all brilliant. They don't have that spark anymore.

Finally somebody who agrees with what I've been saying for YEARS! They (songs and image) were totally fresh and exciting during that first album campaign. Everything since has been either bland or just really gaudy and embarrassing.

Nah, they may have been amazing during the first album campaign, but the best music came form Night Work. The well has clearly run totally dry now though because Magic Hour has actually managed to grow less and less appealing as time has gone. There's 4 good tracks on the album (Somewhere, Only The Horses, Year Of Living Dangerously and Let's Have A Kiki) but the rest ranges from poor to unlistenable.

I obviously didn't expect this to be as good as the immense Night Work, because that would be rather silly. Shady Love and Let's Have a Kiki are my definite highlights, mostly because of how completely ludicrous they are. But as a whole I was expecting slightly better from this album :(

Some parts of the song "Self Control" remind of Tensnake's "Coma Cat"

I'm in the Night Work >>>> Scissor Sisters (album) camp (although I actually rather liked Ta-Da as well, even if it was their blatant attempt at going for the mass market). One thing I will say is they have got better and better as a live act, they were good in the first couple of eras but now they're world class
Ta-Dah isn't a bad album, it's just so utterly MoR that it's hard to call it an SS album. I'd take it over this any day though, at least it has some memorable TUNES.

I absolutely adored Kiss You Off at the time, haven't listened to it much since then as the rest of the album got old so very quickly.

(oh and Somewhere from the new one remains fantastic  )

I do really like Only The Horses, I think that's the only one I can see myself playing from this album in time to come.

That for me remains their best song, and also the only properly good song from that turgid second album.

While i was fully aware the Scissor Sisters are not nearly as popular as they once were i am still highly surprised by how bad this album has performed and sold, terrible chart run and terrible sales and it isnt a bad album. To be honest i cant see it generating much more sales either as the handling of the singles apart from only the horses appears to be terrible.
Magic Hour is miles better than their last album. I don't understand why baby come home failed to chart. It's a classic scissors song. Cant see this album's fortunes being revived now unfortunately.
