Just read on twitter that gotye sold 542k this week, that is extraordinary must be 2nd or 3rd highest sales week ever in the US digitally?

Fourth biggest :D So glad it's beaten Bieber by quite a bit.

Digital Songs top 10:

1 [2] Gotye feat. Kimbra - Somebody That I Used To Know 542k (up 74% - had to work this percentage increase out myself :P)

2 [1] fun. feat. Janelle Monáe - We Are Young 333k (down 15%)

3 [4] One Direction - What Makes You Beautiful 267k (down 9%)

4 [3] Justin Bieber - Boyfriend 255k (down 14%)

5 [6] Carly Rae Jepsen - Call Me Maybe 227k (up 5%)

6 [5] Nicki Minaj - Starships 204k (down 12%)

7 [8] Flo Rida feat. Sia - Wild Ones 187k (down 6%)

8 [7] The Wanted - Glad You Came 181k (down 14%)

9 [15] Kanye West feat. Big Sean, Pusha T and 2 Chainz - Mercy 154k (up 32%)

10 [**] Glee Cast - Somebody That I Used To Know 152k (NEW)

The same eight songs in the top eight with all of them moving exactly one place - weird. Brilliant to see Kanye getting a top 10 placing after all, 'Mercy' isn't proving anywhere near as frontloaded as expected (although it has now plummeted in the UK after holding up well for about a week :() First top 10 hit for Glee since 'Smooth Criminal' I think?

It wouldn't surprise me now if Gotye actually ends up overtaking fun. and getting the biggest seller of the year. They're definitely the two biggest early favourites for the biggest hits of the year (they have been for a while but Gotye took a while to get going in the USA and fun. are doing the same here).

Gotye 209k ahead of fun. - gonna be a close one for the Hot 100 #1 :kink:

Just out of interest, what had bigger weeks, was it Born This Way, Tik Tok and Right Round?

total, Title, Artist(s), Chart Date

636,000, "Right Round," Flo Rida, Feb. 28, 2009

610,000, "TiK ToK," Ke$ha, Jan. 9, 2010

559,000, "Grenade," Bruno Mars, Jan. 8, 2011

Right Round, TiK ToK and Grenade. (Boyfriend was 4th on that list for all of two weeks).

Gotye has the highest total ever that wasn't a debut week or the gift card effect. fun. almost broke this record themselves a few weeks ago but the second week of 'Right Round' remained ahead.

Had Born This Way been released on Monday though, it would've easily passed 700k+ debut week. Obviously Gaga knew best though..

Absolutely incredible for Gotye. I'm FINALLY not singing it non-stop, but glad the US are about to be infected by it. What a song

Also great to see Kanye top 10 digitally (still at #13 on iTunes).

SO happy for Gotye, it's been nearly a year since I heard it and I'm still thoroughly in love, the song deserves all the success
I know i saidd i didn't like STIUTK but it's grown on me now! Gotya is still pretty ugly though, maybe he'll grow on me tpp. I bet he has B.O. though!

?

I'm not sure if they've managed it just yet but they should at least pass the marker over the next week I'd have thought.

Are the wanted over 2 mln?

They're on 1,928,000, so nearly!

Also, One Direction - 'What Makes You Beautiful' has shifted 1,396,000.

He does look like the sort of person that would smell now that you mention it. But i'm sure he's a lovely guy, and he can definitely hit those high notes!

Boyfriend  #3 - Is the video out now?

We Are Young  #4

Also talking of Gotye:

Somebody That I Used To Know - Gotye #2 & #232

Somebody That I Used To Know (feat. Kimbra) [Tiësto Remix] - Gotye #23

Somebody That I Used to Know (Glee Cast Version) - Glee Cast #24

:drama:

What's with the Tiësto remix of STIUTK doing so well? Could help his sales stay sky high for another week although Maroon 5 sadly seem to be heading for a pretty enormous opening :( As long as they don't beat what Gotye did last week I guess.

And with Gotye #1 on streaming and top 10 and rapidly climbing on airplay hopefully Maroon 5 won't challenge for Hot 100 #1.
