March 20, 201213 yr I really liked Slovakia last year. Even if the awful vocals from their backing singers killed it for them.
March 20, 201213 yr So.... Sweden - The unofficial winner of this Eurovision no doubt! Pure Scandi-style power pop! But was it those hammy lyrics that cost Saade the elusive first place?? UK - A confident and credible-ish entry earned us a place on the left side of the score board. Shitted on a great height by the 'panal', it deserved a better position even though I hate boybands! Hungary - A retro-tinged belter, considered a contender but completely bombed Estonia - See above. Great verse and build up and then.... are you shitting me?? Germany - I thought this was a blinder and far better Lena's entry in the previous year. Probably not an opinion other share, but I thought this was sooo seductive. Azerbaijan - I cannot abide limp MOR pop especially when sung by below average singers and bizarrely walks away with first prize. Still remains a proper head scratcher for me. Slovenia - Not my thing, but I consider this under-rated. Edited March 20, 201213 yr by ScottyEm
March 24, 201213 yr I am about to vote, so here's some thoughts on last year's excellent festival. Of the DNQs, Belarus, Slovakia, Norway and Armenia were the only ones I cared about. I Love Belarus was rather fabulous, it was clearly DNQing with a bullet, but it was worth it for the song, I had a soft spot for the TwIIns, so I was disappointed to see them fail, and the song was good too. Norway and Armenia were both very catchy songs that should have done well. Armenia tried so hard and went down with a bang. :( Picking up on that, Caucasian entries were not so great this year. Well, Azerbaijan were great, but it was still a come down after 2010, Georgia were better though, nice to see some good rock in the contest, almost Paramore-like, which is always good, great finisher too. 2012 has turned out shockingly bad for those three, one sending shit, one withdrawing, and the third sending something not as good as their amazing last two entries. Moving on another tangent, Running Scared was fabulous, and it is one of my favourite winners. I loved the performance too, I didn't see what was so dull about it. Eric was a bit shouty if I'm honest, but Popular's great anyway, so I was happy to see it come third. The top 10 was half good, half terrible. The big bad STINKERS were quite clearly Italy and Ireland. I also feel like the only person who didn't get Love In Rewind too, Bosnia have to be the most overrated country for me, I honestly can't think of a song they've sent that I've really liked (same for this year), and they've always made the final so... Ukraine had a nice song, like a mini-Running Scared + sand, not nearly as good though. The last of the top 5, Denmark, had a really inspiring song, probably could have challenged a bit more decisively had it been towards the end rather than the beginning. I honestly didn't care THAT much for Hungary. I liked Wolfy, but not to the degree that some people on here do. Estonia, the other flopping online favourite, was quite something though. Very quirky and pleasant. Blue didn't have a great live performance, let's be honest. Nice to see them gain a respectable position though, I was afraid after that performance, we were going to completely bomb. So... votéd.
March 24, 201213 yr EYES, you aren't the only one who doesn't get Love In Rewind, dull, boring CRAP. Must everything be either crap or amazing?
March 24, 201213 yr If anything Armenia didn't try hard at all Eyes! This is probably more accurate. It just feels like they went out with a bang, the fact it was their first DNQ and the name of the song don't help here. Added to that the winning country and 2011 was a disaster for Armenia. I did like Boom Boom though, it's a bit of a catchy ethno-stomper. On the other hand, it shouldn't have got beyond the lower part of the final, so it missing out wasn't the worst thing.
March 24, 201213 yr 2011 really was a great eurovision year. To some extent at least I liked all of the finalists except Italy. I also enjoyed some of the DNQs such as Norway and even Belgium!
March 24, 201213 yr Author I can confirm that Armenia is so far on ZERO. If you want it to QUALIFY*, it's time to vote! *not finish joint last
March 24, 201213 yr Must everything be either crap or amazing? No, there are plenty of songs which fall into the middle ground. I just don't talk about those because it's far easier to discuss those which you have strong feelings about (obviously).

March 24, 201213 yr I can think of MANY THINGS I'd rather spend three minutes doing than listening to Boom Boom. NOOSE-MAKING
March 24, 201213 yr 'Haba Haba' not qualifying was the worst thing to happen to Eurovision last year. My third favourite of the whole year, behind Sweden and UK - couldn't believe when it didn't qualify, and especially when I saw it was nearly bottom after the contest. Baffling. Amazing song.
