April 11, 201214 yr 'Of African descent' is not the same as 'African'. Tinchy Stryder was born in Ghana but all the other British rappers of African descent were born in the UK AFAIA. That's true. I'm a bit jealous, they all have such good songs. I'm really boring. My dad was born in Wales, so I get...um, Duffy? And Duffy does music that originated in urban America anyway. She's got some awesome songs though. Edited April 11, 201214 yr by Eric_Blob
April 11, 201214 yr lol Luckily I was actually born in England though, so I can claim all the UK rappers (apart from Tinchy :().
April 11, 201214 yr Of course K'naan (born in Somalia but more associated with Canada) and Freshlyground (South African) also had top 40 hits in 2010. Any other African-born acts that have been top 40 since 2010 besides them, Tinchy Stryder (born in Ghana), Nadia Ali (born in Libya) and Die Antwoord (South African)? I thought Nneka was 2010 as well but that was 2009. Edited April 11, 201214 yr by M.I.É.

I get Westlife. I'll trade you them for Duffy. Edited April 11, 201214 yr by Umi
April 11, 201214 yr You get Marina & The Diamonds IIRC! I get Westlife. I'll trade you them for Duffy. lol. I guess it could be worse then. The way that the white man dances in the oliver twist video cracks me up He's like Justin Timberlake gone wrong. Choice FM have been overplaying Oliver Twist for months already though. I assumed it would just be a flop like most of what they play on that station. :drama: But if Radio 1 are playing it maybe it can go top 40. Do you have a database of all artists that chart with their background information or something? Edited April 11, 201214 yr by Eric_Blob
April 12, 201214 yr Upward movement for Alabama Shakes. I wish radio 1 would take more risks and stop increasing airplay for acts when they realise how popular they are in the charts - see Hold On after a midweek no1 album when they stuck hard to the clist last week, also see sway! Why alist Turn me on by Guetta when it has peaked in the chart due to the disparity between video release and radio airplay and its like the 6th single from the album?
