Posted April 14, 201213 yr THE NATION'S FAVOURITE NUMBER 1 SINGLE As it is the 60th Anniversary of the UK Singles Chart, a huge Poll has begun, to find the Country's 'Favourite Number 1 Single'. There have been 1,192 UK No.1 Singles, since November 1952. A 'Panel Of Experts' have made a short-list of 60 of those No.1's. & you can Vote for them. Each Voter can choose 10 of the 60 No.1 Hits. http://www.itv.com/nationsfavouritenumberone/ http://www.mirror.co.uk/lifestyle/going-ou...60-years-794406 http://www.officialcharts.com/chart-news/t...ne-single-1337/ Later this Year, the results will be revealed in a 3 Part TV Series, on ITV1 & ITV1+1. They might be planning to reveal the order of the entire Top 60, for it to be spread over 3 Shows. AN HONOUR FOR THE BEATLES, ABBA, & MADONNA The Beatles, ABBA, & Madonna, are the only 3 Acts, to have had 2 of their No.1 Hits chosen to be Voted on. The Beatles get 'I Want To Hold Your Hand', (1963), & 'Hey Jude', (1968), & ABBA get 'Dancing Queen', (1976), & 'The Winner Takes It All', (1980). Madonna gets 'Like A Prayer', (1989), & 'Vogue', (1990). So, The Beatles are the only Act with 2 No.1's chosen from the same Decade, & ABBA & Madonna, are the only Acts with 2 No.1's chosen from different Decades.
April 14, 201213 yr I Believe I Can Fly, Dry Your Eyes and Bonkers stick out like a sore thumb in the shortlist  Where is Bad Romance? Anyway, this was my top ten from the shortlist offered; 1. Madonna - Like A Prayer 2. ABBA - The Winner Takes It All 3. Oasis - Don't Look Back In Anger 4. Adele - Someone Like You 5. Lady Gaga - Poker Face 6. Take That - Back For Good 7. Britney Spears - ...Baby One More Time 8. Gnarls Barkley - Crazy 9. ABBA - Dancing Queen 10. The Verve - The Drugs Don't Work
April 14, 201213 yr Some very good choices there, but this was my top 10: 01. Beyoncé ft. Jay-Z "Crazy In Love" 02. John Lennon "Imagine" 03. Rihanna ft. Jay-Z "Umbrella" 04. Britney Spears "...Baby One More Time" 05. Queen "Bohemian Rhapsody" 06. The Human League "Don't You Want Me" 07. Kate Bush "Wuthering Heights" 08. Ben E. King "Stand By Me" 09. Eminem ft. Dido "Stan" 10. Sinéad O'Connor "Nothing Compares 2 U"
April 14, 201213 yr 'Firestarter' on the list :o No 'Breathe' but I wasn't expecting that to be on there.
April 14, 201213 yr I'm surprised Toxic isn't there, but they probably don't want to have duplicate songs from many artists. The Beatles, ABBA and Madonna are understandable, since they're in a total different league. If you have to choose a Britney #1, Baby One More Time is the obvious choice. Considering it's a TV show aswell, you could probably do an hour-long program about that song, but there's not too much they can say about Toxic.
April 14, 201213 yr My 10: Crazy Stand And Deliver You Really Got Me Good Vibrations Going Underground Don't Look Back In Anger Gangster's Paradise Heart of Glass Stan Imagine It's a terrible way of selecting and the selections don't all make a great deal of sense but I still voted, probably preferable to a top 5 full of recent shite voted for en masse by teenage girls.
April 14, 201213 yr It's a terrible way of selecting and the selections don't all make a great deal of sense but I still voted, probably preferable to a top 5 full of recent shite voted for en masse by teenage girls. This is true. To be honest, I think it'll still be a bit of an issue. The recent songs there like Someone Like You, Bonkers and Umbrella will probably get more votes than they would get if they did this in 10 years time and they had the opportunity to "age". April 14, 201213 yr I fully expect Someone Like You to be in the top 5 minimum but I'm not sure about the other 2. Bonkers hasn't really gone down that well in a short space of time (I'd have picked Dance Wiv Me) and Umbrella is 5 years old now. I'm glad they picked that over her more recent ones.
April 14, 201213 yr Yeah, Someone Like You will do great, especially since, despite being recent, it has a huge appeal to different age groups. I don't think Bonkers or Umbrella will do that well anyway, but they might come like 30th, whilst if we did this 10 years later with the same songs they'd probably come about 50th (just an example).
April 14, 201213 yr I wouldn't be surprised if "Bonkers" came last. It's got no lasting appeal at all...
April 15, 201213 yr Really they should of let you pick 60 songs out of all the #1's ever and whittle it down from there.
April 15, 201213 yr i am surprised Leave Right Now by Will Young is not there!!!! Because it's not a competition to find the *worst* #1 ever... Seriously though, I picked... 1. Kylie-CGYOOMH 2. Beatles-Hey Jude 3-10. Other #1's I liked in no particular order. Edited April 15, 201213 yr by vidcapper
April 15, 201213 yr 1. Stan 2. Like A Prayer 3. Dancing Queen 4. Umbrella 5. Baby One More Time 6. Don't You Want Me 7. I Will Survive 8. Killing Me Softly 9. Wannabe 10. Billie Jean
April 15, 201213 yr 1 The Prodigy - Firestarter 2 Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody 3 Michael Jackson - Billie Jean 4 The Verve - The Drugs Don't Work 5 Eminem feat. Dido - Stan 6 Coolio feat. L.V. - Gangsta's Paradise 7 The Beatles - Hey Jude 8 Dizzee Rascal and Armand Van Helden - Bonkers (a bizarre inclusion but AMAZE song so I'm not gonna leave it out) 9 Madonna - Like A Prayer 10 George Michael - Careless Whisper
April 15, 201213 yr 01 Kate Bush - Wuthering Heights 02 Lady Gaga - Pokerface 03 Madonna - Like A Prayer 04 Adele - Someone Like You 05 Britney Spears - ...Baby One More Time 06 Abba - Dancing Queen 07 Rihanna ft. Jay-Z - Umbrella 08 Eminem ft. Dido - Stan 09 Spice Girls - Wannabe 10 Whitney Houston - I Will Always Love You Some odd inclusions, such as Pokerface over Bad Romance for one. Glad they didn't randomly include like One Direction or JLS, otherwise it'd be trending on Twitter within minutes and they'd take over and make sure their IDOLS win :drama: Edited April 15, 201213 yr by Liаm
