April 17, 201213 yr I didn't mean you. Ohhh ok haha, sorry about that. Clearly misinterpreted what you were saying! 02 Arcade Fire – “Rebellion (Lies)” I don't still *get* them. I mean they're good but... I agree to some extent. I completely agree with the praise 'The Suburbs' received (it's definitely one of my favourite albums of the last few years), but I've never really understood the fuss with 'Rebellion (Lies)' and that's almost universally considered their best song and one of the best songs of the decade/fifteen years?!
April 17, 201213 yr Author Ohhh ok haha, sorry about that. Clearly misinterpreted what you were saying! No problem. It did look like I was replying to your comment. I meant in general - people slag these lists off but this one is far from the worst.
April 17, 201213 yr The list is ok but quite predictable and when it's unpredictable, it's just wrong :P I also think The Suburbs is very good, especially glorious Sprawl II which is much better song than Rebellion (Lies) in general, but of course just my opinion.
April 17, 201213 yr No problem. It did look like I was replying to your comment. I meant in general - people slag these lists off but this one is far from the worst. I guess that's very true! And I suppose they are bound to be similar/predictable as the music itself hasn't changed. It's good to see recent music up there with some true classics though, even if there aren't that many from the last few years.

Nah...I disagree. I like unpredictable lists because I often like songs that are less critically acclaimed and to see them come up in a list for the first time more than a decade after they were released is a pleasure - Around the World from Daft Punk being one.

April 17, 201213 yr Total WTF moments with Oasis... Where are 'Idle' and 'Songbird' for example? I thought that. "D'You Know What I Mean?" is my favourite post-1995 Oasis track but both of those you mentioned (plus "Stop Crying Your Heart Out" and the NME-lauded "I'm Outta Time") would have been more likely inclusions.
April 17, 201213 yr Pretty nice list. I like the following: 148 Coldplay – “Clocks” 147 Morrissey – “First Of The Gang To Die” 145 Fever Ray – “If I Had A Heart” 144 The Killers – “Human" 139 Coldplay – “Yellow” 138 Bat For Lashes – “What’s A Girl To Do?” 137 Doves – “There Goes The Fear” 136 Kelis – “Milkshake” 132 Daft Punk – “Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger” 131 Radiohead – “Pyramid Song” 121 Santogold -“LES Artistes” 111 The Spice Girls – “Wannabe” 107 Radiohead – “No Surprises” 106 Radiohead – “Let Down” 103 Lady Gaga – “Poker Face” 99 MGMT – “Kids” 95 The Knife – “Heartbeats” 93 Radiohead – “Reckoner” 92 Peter Bjorn & John – “Young Folks” 87 The Streets – “Dry Your Eyes” 78 The Verve – “The Drugs Don’t Work” 72 The Big Pink – “Dominos” 70 M.I.A. – “XXXO” 63 Rihanna – “Umbrella” 62 Vampire Weekend – “A-Punk” 52 The Prodigy – “Firestarter” 51 Sugababes – “Overload” 37 Coldplay – “The Scientist” 35 Johnny Cash – “Hurt” 32 Gnarls Barkley – “Crazy" 27 Franz Ferdinand – “Take Me Out” 23 The White Stripes – “Seven Nation Army” 15 M.I.A. – “Paper Planes” 13 Jay-Z & Alica Keys – “Empire State Of Mind” 09 The Verve – “Bitter Sweet Symphony” 08 Amy Winehouse – “Rehab” 05 The Killers – “Mr. Brightside” 03 OutKast – “Hey Ya!” 01 Radiohead – “Paranoid Android” Edited April 17, 201213 yr by Mattias
April 17, 201213 yr Author Many good artists here, but where are GARBAGE? They disposed of Garbage.
April 17, 201213 yr Clearly such lists are completely arbitrary anyway, there's always going to be something that is overlooked and disagreed on. But it does spark a good bit of debate. "Rehab" at #8 is clearly a little bit bizarre - it's a great song, but Top 10 over the likes of "Hurt" by Johnny Cash and "Hoppípolla" not even mentioned. Goodness.
April 17, 201213 yr Just noticed: Ms. Jackson at #81 - SO WRONG - yet Hey Ya made top 3. And no PJ Harvey!
April 17, 201213 yr Author I would always claim that Rehab was the weakest of the singles from Back to Black - certainly weaker than all but You Know I'm No Good.
April 17, 201213 yr Author Just noticed: Ms. Jackson at #81 - SO WRONG - yet Hey Ya made top 3. So Fresh, So Clean is better than both - but all three are great.
April 17, 201213 yr I would always claim that Rehab was the weakest of the singles from Back to Black - certainly weaker than all but You Know I'm No Good. "Back To Black" remains my favourite to this day. Would probably be *just* Top 100 in my Top 100 of the past 15 years though, not at #8! #95 for "Heartbeats" is far too low, I'd even include José González's beautiful cover version. and "Poker Face" over the clearly superior "Bad Romance"... just wrong.
April 17, 201213 yr and "Poker Face" over the clearly superior "Bad Romance"... just wrong. I used to think that way too but have changed my mind. Somehow PF is a bit more powerful after all. Or maybe I've just overplayed BR, dunno. I love both though and the inclusion of BR, Alejandro and/or The Edge of Glory wouldn't had hurt the NME list. But I know their readers are a bit anti-Gaga so not that surprising anyway. Oh, and love The Knife, surely Pass This On, We Share Our Mothers' Health or Take My Breath Away SHOULD be there too. April 17, 201213 yr They disposed of Garbage. Ha! NME quite hated Garbage in the past. Now they seems to like them a bit. They posted recently an article "Garbage still not cool, still pretty fantastic". Also Butch Vig ranked #9 on their Top 50 best producers ever. PS NME also forgot Depeche Mode. In the last 15 years they had singles like It's No Good, Home, Useless, Barrel of a Gun, Dream On, Freelove, I Feel Loved, Precious, A Pain That I'm Used To, Wrong, Peace. April 17, 201213 yr Oh FFS! What on earth is Wannabe doing there! Turgid hangover from the post-Britpop crash when all the inkies started to "like" pop music coz there wasn't much else happening at the time. It has always been an absolute pile of shit. Hey Ya! is always at the top of things coz it's a cracking single.
