June 18, 201213 yr I imagine McFly managed to hold on due to James Blunt's sales tailing off over the five weeks it was no.1 I hope Arctic Monkeys cling on but I have a feeling they might not thanks to Wetflies.
June 18, 201213 yr Author Boll*cks I forgot one (had to happen sooner or later)... MCFLY- I'LL BE OK- NON NUMBER ONE http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/c/c6/Mcflyillbeokcd1.jpg NEW PEAK POSITION: 2 Of course this also gets demoted 1-8-15 tells its own story YET what is so amazing is that it lost out by just 300 copies on repeating its No 1 real life status. Just to confirm that if Oasis had sold just 6 k more over its first 2 weeks then it would have retained it's no 1 place as well. Xjn2BYFoTvo
June 18, 201213 yr Oh christ, does this mean the Daniel Powter promotion is going to be a reality then? :puke2: And there was me being grateful for McFly for once. I don't see what else could happen as there's surely no way James Blunt could have lasted all the way until Pussycat Dolls when he was low top 10 by that point. If only I had kept my mouth shut you might not have even noticed. :D Edited June 18, 201213 yr by superbossanova
June 18, 201213 yr Author If only I had kept my mouth shut you might not have even noticed. :D Nah you'd have noticed when I posted the revised 2005 so it's a good job! :D
June 18, 201213 yr I'm pretty surprised Bad Day didn't get to #1 in the weekly charts tbh (although now I know why ).
June 19, 201213 yr Author Oh christ, does this mean the Daniel Powter promotion is going to be a reality then? :puke2: Oh Yes! 03.09.05- DANIEL POWTER- BAD DAY- NEW NUMBER ONE (1 Wk) http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/3/3e/Bad_Day_single.jpg More or less a case of the last song standing gets Powter promoted here. With James Blunt losing sales and Oasis and Gorillaz not exactly setting the charts on fire this song wins by just 400 odd copies over Mcfly in an exceptionally weak period for record sales. Not to be too unkind perhaps he deserves it for clinging on for 6 weeks in the top 3? YKzYo-nI23M&feature=related
June 19, 201213 yr Author GORILLAZ- DARE- NON NUMBER ONE http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/d/d1/Gorillaz_DARE_CD1.jpg NEW PEAK POSITION: 2 Whilst it appears to be universally liked now there is no denying that "Dare" was a very well timed release. It's first week sales of 26k were the lowest required for a No 1 since those evil Elvis re-issues back in January so it would have failed in any other week, and here those Puddycat Dolls wipe the floor with the Gorillaz hence it even making two is flattering it in reality. June 19, 201213 yr I always found it strange that DARE made #1, so the demotion does make a little sense even though I'm immensely disappointed.
June 19, 201213 yr Author ARCTIC MONKEYS- I BET YOU LOOK GOOD ON THE DANCEFLOOR- NON NUMBER ONE http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/5/5e/I_Bet_You_Look_Good_On_the_Dancefloor.jpg NEW PEAK POSITION: 2 It's interesting that Indie acts seem to be getting a hammering in this thread, and being sandwiched between big sellers "Pus The Button" and "You Raise Me Up" consigns the Monkeys to the same fate. Six weeks in the top 10 shows that the song did have some legs but 38k for a No 1 in late 2005 was weak and so it cant really grumble. IG3LGe_ZZxk
June 19, 201213 yr Author NIZLOPI- JCB SONG- NON NUMBER ONE http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/f/f4/NizlopiJCBCover2.jpg NEW PEAK POSITION: 2 Two words can describe why this is here. Shayne Ward. Or try 752 K in one week. Nuff said......sadly. 82Dv7aGW1IE

June 19, 201213 yr Eep at Gorillaz AND Arctic Monkeys - that makes four of the best number 1s of the 21st Century all demoted :( now I'm SO glad this system doesn't exist! that said, a week for Daniel Powter is very welcome  Edited June 19, 201213 yr by C.W
June 19, 201213 yr Oh dear! 2005 looks dreadful under this system! Hopefully as the years go on the no.1s will get better. 2010 and 2011 should show improvemetn for example.
June 19, 201213 yr It's interesting that Indie acts seem to be getting a hammering in this thread I think that's probably because some of those songs aren't very mainstream-sounding. By that I mean like 90% of the time, the songs that have massive chart runs are very, very "safe" and MOR, and their masses of radio airplay keep them selling for an eternity. The Arctic Monkeys didn't make songs like that. Not to mention, there's the fact that indie fans are probably more up-to-date with music than the general public. They're probably more on top of the new releases, and will buy them straight away. Whilst the people that like pop music often don't follow music that closely to know exactly what week each song is released, etc. Not saying those are the only reasons, and obviously, I'm talking in general, but they're probably factors. We still see similar happen in the chart today.
June 19, 201213 yr Westlife are losing less #1's than I thought they would. In fairness, "You raise me up" was one of their most tolerable. Edited June 19, 201213 yr by N-S

We still see similar happen in the chart today. And also, the indie following hasn't increased from mid-noughties while simple pop music is selling a lot better now. People who listened to indie then, listen to it now as well but it just doesn't reflect on charts that much any more Edited June 20, 201213 yr by SKOB
