If "f*** You" gets demoted in favour of "Just The Way You Are" and then "Grenade" loses a week to "Rolling In The Deep", this thread really does have terrible taste in Bruno Mars.

Sandwiched between spells at the top for "Someone Like You" one of the easiest 2011 demotions to forcast would have to be this one. The 11k it sold it outsold Adele in week one of its chart life was recouped and doubled just 7 days later by Adele and thusly (much like Ke$ha) results in a No 2 peak behind the song of the year!

What? No "Swagger Jagger"? Well no and the reason for that the absence of big sellers around the weeks it was released. This track for example which knocked it from No 1 on the lowest sale of the year (46k) making "Swagger Jagger" actually a bigger seller, indeed such was its fade that "Promises" can't even make our top 5 on this thread.

 

Nero was always a shocking number 1 to me. Not surprised to see it demoted. Surprised (but pleased) Cher isn't in this though! Did she actually get 2 weeks then? :o

 

I always forget how much i love 'Don't Hold Your Breath' until I listen to it. I've always pretty much loved it, but forget just how much. 'Right There' (the one without 50 Cent thanks) is still my favourite Solo Nicole effort! Such a summer tune :wub:

'Promises' was an absolute fluke of a #1 but a brilliant fluke. Same deal with their album. They got really, really lucky with dead weeks. ('Promises' is actually somehow (i.e. with big help from Skrillex) becoming a reasonable sized success in the USA where it entered the Hot 100 at #81 the other day though :o)

That week would have been perfect for The Saturdays to get their first #1 with 'All Fired Up'!

I was referring to the #1s that spent only a week ahead of Moves Like Jagger. Reading back I can see how you thought otherwise though.

Yes in the real world it spent 7 long frustrating weeks at No 2 behind a different No 1 single every week (almost), but here it becomes the only "new" number one to spend as long at the top and indeed to return to the top- on TWO occasions. As the second biggest seller of the year it deserves its promotion in this thread but just who has been demoted to make way?...

 

I hope that dreadful Wretch 32 single 'Don't Go' has been demoted. The type of song people forgot how it goes whilst it's playing. Music for people with Alzheimer's or what?!!! -_-

Without listening to it again I can't recall how it goes so that tells a tale of its own, during its week at No 2 behind MLJ it was some 80k off the mark illustrating that it really didn't stand a chance on this thread.

The success of Pixie Lott completely baffled me. I'm not shocked at all to see all her no. 1 singles getting demoted. I describe Pixie's music as "moment hits" - songs that are popular upon its week of release, but are completely forgotton about after 3 months.

 

'Stay Awake' was such a step down after the Euphoric brilliance of 'Changed The Way You Kiss Me'. Even Example himself admitted he didn't think 'Stay Awake' would be a UK #1 single. :lol: Says it all.

 

Disappointed that Wretch 32 has somehow avoided a deserved demotion but what to do. :(

That Example track was way too preachy. It only lasted 6 weeks top 40 iirc. Wretch 32 I guess could have benefitted from the preceding weeks being rather poor and MLJ hadn't quite taken off yet. It was still an incredibly boring no.1 that no one remembers.

 

But YES at MLJ getting those five weeks. It really was the most popular track at the time and was unlucky never to sell the most in any of those seven day windows. Although I'm glad Maroon 5 finally do have an official no.1, it still seems an injustice that MLJ never made it.

'Stay Awake' being demoted :( I wish I could say that was a surprise though. Extremely underrated on here.

Noooooo at both of Nero's chart toppers getting demoted* :cry: However I'm not surprised at all.

 

*I count 'Stay Awake' as a Nero chart topper as it was produced by Nero :kink:

 

 

'No Regrets', 'Loca People', 'Wishing On A Star' and 'Cannonball' will probably lose their #1 status too.
