Logically there was no reason Aiden would have not flopped - he flopped on the X Factor and that was ages ago so why would there be interest in him now? The campaign seemed to suggest there was but really I'm not at all surprised at him underperforming. It is quite LOL that he's doing worse than Laura White did with far less support but then Laura released her single much closer to her brief time in the public eye on XF. (Were they on the same year? I don't even remember).

Aiden's single being around 20 places lower than a FAKE version of Whistle is just saddening...

Not really surprised at Barlow being #1 at the moment, at least it didn't happen last week. All I can hope is that it trails off massively towards the end of the week and somehow misses out officially

I think The Power might climb a bit more as the week progresses. It was never really an obvious #1 as some people seemed to think, the pre-orders haven't been very high in comparison to Louder and Hot Right Now

An update before bedtime,

:drama: at Gary's lead. I concede that the song is pleasant, though.

Poor Leanne not even making the Top 20 on iTunes.

'Sing' is not quite as awful as I thought it might have been but still crap and I still object to the existence of Military Wives. Ah well, not the worst #1 of the year and it could provide competition for the record drops from #1 in both charts unless I have greatly underestimated its post-Jubilee staying power.
Nelly furtado is the weakest single of hers I think FOREVER

More so even than Forca?

Delighted to see Gary number 1, he could do the double next week, although im secretly hoping low sales could help Kylie get number 1 in the albums.

Only if sales slump below 5k for #1. :P

Update...

Up 45% in 20 minutes?!

I have to agree. Like I said earlier, the documentary really added a lot of meaning to the song for me and I would be happy for it to go to #1 this week! :D

If only because it would knock off the absymal Rudimental...

Forca is AMAZING, as is 'Big Hoops'. Nelly Furtado has so few misses for me to be honest, it's unbelievable.

Oh I totally agree, Big Hoops is so overrated! It's one of her worst for me, but I do quite like it.

Ugh, what the hell was on last night for Gary Barlow to shoot up so much? I'm obviously aware of the Jubilee which is the reason it's there but I guess there was some programme on last night I subconsciously avoided like the plague that boosted it.

There was. Gary Barlow had his own documentary about the making of the song, which is why it's shot up so fast as people have watched it, heard the song and like what they hear (I personally don't like the song)

Ah OK thanks! It's only going to get a bigger lead as well when more Jubilee programmes are on today and tomorrow, and as I can't stand Gary Barlow and hated Wherever You Are, you can guess my thoughts on the song :P

I agree. I can't really think of any of her songs which I don't like. And that's impressive considering she does so many different styles of music.

The thing with Aiden Grimshaw is just how popular he really is. He didn't last long on The X Factor because, for me anyways, his faux-intense performances came across as very odd.

Also Laura White appeared in what was easily the best series of X Factor with several very good singers in the competition. The 2010 series wasn't as good in comparison (you can blame Wagner for that if you want :P ).

So if Aiden's single (which again, I've heard a few times and only think it's a slick backing track) charts lower than Laura White's debut single did, then I won't be surprised. Basically, I never saw Aiden as a top 5 contender.

Yay at Rita Ora falling past Loreen and out of the top ten first :D

The Loreen juggernaut is still in effect. I was watching Chart Show TV's Download Chart this morning and 'Euphoria' was the no. 1 video. :o So the video is still getting airplay, coupled with the continued rado airplay. Loreen might even become a bonafide "weekend effect" hit soon. :D

I had a feeling Aiden would underperform compared to what people expected as well. He only came like 8th, and that below the likes of Katie Waissel, Mary Byrne and Wagner  He does have a big fanbase on Twitter (the kind who trend loads of topics about him) etc. but as has been seen with Alexandra Burke, fanbase isn't enough. Is This Love did have Radio 1 support though so I expected low top 20, even if it only had a few weeks top 40.

Shame for Leanne as well, only just scraping top 20 :( The Voice did get less viewers than Eurovision (using it as a simialr thing because that the was only promo for Loreen) but they didn't even mention the single on The Voice because of BBC rules against advertising, so she''s had virtually nothing bar people seeing the single and buying it so actually top 20 isn't too bad.

Gary's track has increased by a fair bit, I can only wonder its going to increase much more later on tonight, I don't think its going to trail off by the end of the week.

Radio 1 A-list means bugger all though. There have been loads of singles that have been A-listed by Radio 1 that didn't do anything in the charts. They can play a song on repeat for 24 hours but if the majority of people don't like it, they will switch off the radio and refuse to buy the song. You can't force fed crap into the months of the music buying public. :D

With the Queen's Diamond Jubilee concert tonight, there's no doubt 'Sing' will be performed at some point so chances are the lead will only increase even more by tonight, and possibly tomorrow. It'll be so far ahead that it'll probably take another 48 hours for the anything else to catch up so I'm going to guess that 'Sing' will be no. 1 on iTunes until Thursday at the most, before Rudimental (most likely) overtake and reclaim the no. 1 spot.

Think it's safe to say Gary Barlow will do the double next Sunday. A climb of 11-1 in the charts is a rarity these days. 'Telephone' was the last single to climb to no. 1 from outside the top 10.

Ohai Gary Barlow.

Ohai Gary Barlow.

Oh, sorry. That was indeed a typo. :P

It should read "You can force fed crap into the months of the music buying public. :D "
