That was purely a coincidence. I took this from Alizée - A Contre-Courant (with slight alteration). I thought you were going Dutch this time btw?

Oh yeah :o Knew I recognised it. Yeah but it was only going to be Twenty 4 Seven's new song so you would have hated it anyway
I didn't make the connection when I saw the name, but the f(x) cover of Monrose's Hot Summer is tres good.

So Hot Summer is actually a cover? :o

It charted at #1 in Germany, Austria and Switzerland and reached #6 on the European chart! It was successful in central Europe back in 2007!

Hot Summer has been sent before? Are covers of previous entries allowed, I always thought they weren't? :o

Just realised this too from looking at the list of songs! I believe Botanikka was in a similar situation last contest wasn't he?

I think more than anything it just goes to show that the covers rule is becoming quickly irrelevant - if it's an uninspired cover of something that's been sent (like, a cover of something that was sent a contest ago and won), sure, but a cover of something sent years ago which didn't light up the scoreboard isn't really going to have much of an in-built advantage. It's probably time to remove most of the hard and fast rules like 'no Eurovision, no covers' and leave it down to veto discretion, just putting in an advisory that covers of previous entries and Eurovision entries from the last couple of years are likely to be vetoed. Something like CatCat - Baby Bye Bye is hardly likely to qualify for a veto but is currently banned, whereas something like Euphoria would be the most obvious veto ever.

I don't think the Eurovision songs have to be unbanned. You could say it holds the same sort of edge as unbanning MF songs, but so many of the people who do BJSC, also watch Eurovision every year - so there, I think it's fine to keep it banned.

As for covers, I agree with you, there's no need to make Daehun change their entry now. It was sent by Tasha Summer, years ago, and it didn't even qualify? Like you say, it doesn't give it any advantage. That rule could probably be lifted, and like you say, be left up to the discretion of the mods, as to whether the cover sent is 'cheap' as such.

Was Hot Summer sent? I knew it was a Monrose cover but I wasn't aware that the Monrose version was sent :o

I was going to vote for it highly as well :( Luckily I didn't send y votes earlier as planned!

Yep, Tasha Island sent it in BJSC 9, it finished 17th in the semi final so didn't qualify!

Yeah, but what I'm getting at is that stuff from the last few years would almost certainly be vetoed anyway. Older stuff which the vast majority of people probably don't know (I mean, let's face it, Pavel had enough of a struggle getting people to vote in Super Eurovision before he got to 2007) wouldn't exactly have any advantage.

BJSC9 SF17: Tasha Island - Monrose – Hot Summer

But, like I say, this was like.. sent over 30 contests ago, and made no splash whatsoever on the contest - this may be seen as unfair because Botanikka's song had to be changed, but I think Daehun should be allowed to keep this song. Some people have already voted, and it's not really a cover of a particularly notable BJSC entry.

Yeah, I can see what you're getting at, because like you say, most people (me included) wouldn't really remember/know entries from 2007. I suppose you could lift the whole Eurovision thing, but as far as I can see, it wouldn't make the slightest bit of difference. That's probably beside the point; the effect it would have on the contest and whether it should be done.

I don't really think the Eurovision song thing is particularly a problem, it's not hindering people in any way really. This cover thing, like I say, could probably be lifted - with mods keeping an eye on whether any covers are too 'cheap'. For example, I heard an amazing version of Video Games by The Young Professionals the other day (ikr, somebody made me like that shit wtf!) - but that'd be ridiculous. As for Hot Summer? I think that's no problem.

As far as I remember Monrose didn't sing Hot Summer translated into Korean :D
Even more amusingly, there isn't actually a single person who was in Tasha Island's semi who's in Daehun's semi this time around - and if Daehun get to the final, only Mdiče and PRoJ were in the same semi as Tasha Island who are still in the contest.

Who the f*** were Tasha Island? Even I can't remember them :D

Oh I know - I don't really have any plans to send anything from Eurovision (aside from maybe CatCat as a 'oh fuck it, why not' entry if the ban ever got lifted), but I just think the ban should be lifted as even though I don't have any plans to send, say, a Dutch entry from 1989 or whatever, I don't see why that should stop others who wish to.

I think Oricon should definitely be able to keep the track as it is, like you say, a translation anyway. But I agree that covers should just become part of the vetoing process.
