I think it's great that they'll release the single in January because they'll have plenty of time to build some buzz in the states. The best tactic would be to send the new single to US radio, at the same time the single is released in the US. I don't think there's been official confirmation that the song will be sent to radio in a couple of weeks (I might be mistaken though). I think it's a bad idea if they send the song to radio in a couple of weeks and then release it in January, as some of you have said that they might suffer from illegal downloads. But if they get a great reception on radio then they might bring the release date forward to avoid this issue.

I feel like they're going about this single in a back to front manner.

If they're beginning to try and build up buzz in the US right now, they should release their song to US iTunes asap. Then let it grow over the next few months as they promote/make appearances. Holding their song back is an odd move for the US market.

Look at One Direction & The Wanted - they had their singles available on US iTunes before both bands were even given a push. Both singles became huge sellers, despite being available months in advance of the groups impacting.

I get the impression they're mainly having meetings, recording new music and shooting faux-reality crap for the TV show and will go back to US early next year for actual promo.

It'll be interesting to keep a track of the girls followers/"likes"/YT views between now and their single release in the States. Currently on Twitter their followers are..

Be interesting to see how much their stats rise in the next few months as they build up a US fanbase. :)

Mollie has 42 567 fans on FB.

About their youtube views, I think it's because some videos were more watched on their actual youtube account. Is that possible ?

I don't know if they should release the single on US iTunes and let it rise or not...but...maybe it could work. Who knows.

You should add those stats on your post, shadow2009 (but separately, for example, Ego : 2,324,846 on Vevo and 2 693 819 on Polydor)

THIS.

They're not holding their song back, though. It hasn't even had a radio premiere. For all we know it could be on iTunes immediately after it's premiere (as it usually is in the US) then they'll start to promote it. They can't promote it anywhere until it's had it's premiere, really. The gig tonight is a one-off I think.

There's now a quote on Popjustice from a website saying they're releasing in the UK BEFORE they release in the US.

This is confusing.

They haven’t forgotten the UK!

British fans need not worry that the Saturdays have “done a Natasha Bedingfield” and abandoned their home shores forever at the first whiff of a US hit. ‘What About Us’ will be released here in the UK before the girls kick off their American campaign. We’ll be able to bring you all the details very soon, but the buzz is that it’s going to be a big one!

So there you have it. If Little Mix think they can take the crown of the UK’s favourite girlband, they may have a fight on their hands!

There you go. ‘What About Us’ will be released here in the UK before the girls kick off their American campaign. We’ll be able to bring you all the details very soon, but the buzz is that it’s going to be a big one!

This campaign is so confusing. They need to clear this shit up.

If they release in the UK first then that's going to seriously halt their promo in America unless the UK release is VERY soon.

Unless they premiere it worldwide in the next week (and automatically releasing to the US iTunes), release the video in the UK, promote it and release it in October and then fly back to America for November/December/January to promote it over there?

EDIT - unless they're not gonna promote it in the UK and hope it does well on airplay/TV channels? Or pre-record a bunch of performances?

As I said. They need to clear this shit up.

They were the first to say that new music would come soon AND (yes the "AND" was really important) they would release a single in January 2013, and then one day after, it's all about "What About Us" being released in January 2013 in both UK and US. Then one day after again, there's this guy saying it would be released late September. Now, this MaximumPop saying it would be released first in the UK (but not necessary in September, he didn't mention that). Like what the actual f*** ?!

Let's not forget that person on "OhNoTheyDidn't" who said they would release it late September with a radio tour and a premiere on Ryan Seacrest show.

What's up with all those rumours, really ?

Amazing. So proud and excited for them! :D Oh, and they're the first British girl group to hit the VMAs red carpet since The Spice Girls - who several of the American interviewers have said the girls are like haha.

Edited by Encore

Was anyone actually watching the red carpet? Did they get shown and interviewed?

They were interviewed, but not by MTV. Just the casual press, I think.

It's not surprising tho. I mean, they are still not famous over here. No one knows them. Just being there, on the red carpet, looking fabulous, is already enough in my opinion.
