'I Will Always Love You'?

I can only assume people voted for this out of sheer sympathy of Whitney Houston's death. Also as much as I like 'Someone Like You', I feel it's too soon to put this in a "Greatest UK #1 of All Time" poll. So purely because it's so recent, Adele will no doubt feature very high.

'Imagine', 'Bohemian Rhapsody' and 'Hey Jude' are timeless even though all three have their haters.

'CGYOOMH' might be overrated but it did wonders for Kylie's career in 2001. Her biggest selling hit released 13 years into her career is quite an achievement. A bit like Jennifer Lopez 'On The Floor' but obviously on a much smaller scale. :P

'Dancing Queen' is a pop gem but there are other ABBA tracks I prefer but this is their signature tune no doubt.

Oasis 'Don't Look Back In Anger' is one of my fave #1's of the 90s and for me personally is easily one of Oasis' better no. 1 hits.

'Billie Jean' is another timeless classic that still sounds incredibly decent 30 years on.

Finally Britney Spears, THE pop single of 1999. One of the best debut singles and one of the very few singles I bought in 1999. Sadly, the video has been tainted since by visions of very camp boys dressing up as schoolgirls acting more girly than Britney herself. ** shudders **

I voted for Kylie anyways. Overrated yes, but it's just one of those tracks I never tire of hearing. My personal ranking would be:

01. Kylie Minogue - Can't Get You Out Of My Head

02. Oasis - Don't Look Back In Anger

03. Michael Jackson - Billie Jean

04. Britney Spears - Baby One More Time

05. Adele - Someone Like You

06. The Beatles - Hey Jude

07. Abba - Dancing Queen

08. Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody

09. John Lennon - Imagine

10. Whitney Houston - I Will Always Love You <--- genuinely don't think it deserves top 10 of all time status

I think whichever act you vote for on this llist pretty much depends on your age. Personally I went for "Billie Jean" as it's the first song I remember being "everywhere" back in the day and one of the first pop promo's I recall seeing and being mesmerised by. I'm sure for younger members Britney or Kylie would have a similar effect but it really changed the pop landscape around it in a way that few songs do and really launched "MTV" and helped to shape the way the music industry really operates today.

No Robyn? REALLY?

I fail to see any possible argument as to why she shouldn't have made it. I bet she'd have easily made it under normal circumstances but Whitney's sad passing has distorted the results and robbed Robyn of her true destiny.

Billie Jean  and Dancing Queen are my favourites.

The same could be said of Doop, Mr Blobby or Babycakes. :(

Abba 'Dancing Queen' - can't dance to it because it's too slow 4/10

Adele 'Someone Like You' - just a standard "I'll get over you" ballad which is fairly ordinary as a studio version 4/10 (live version 7/10)

Britney Spears '...Baby One More Time' - over-rated. I could never hear the appeal 4/10

John Lennon 'Imagine' - not bad - I really do like the lyrics even though they get criticized 7/10

Kylie Minogue 'Can't Get You Out Of My Head' - used to love this - then I killed it off by overplaying - 5/10

Michael Jackson 'Billie Jean' - very good, several parts of this are genius 8/10

Oasis 'Don't Look Back In Anger' - Imagine with worse lyrics and a worse singer 4/10

Queen 'Bohemian Rhapsody' - ok I suppose but I can't pick any bit out that I enjoy. 5/10

The Beatles 'Hey Jude' - - ok - 5/10

Whitney Houston 'I Will Always Love You' I actually liked this when it was released and dont hate it now 6/10

so on that basis Billie Jean is my favourite

Baby One More Time for me!

Someone Like You and Dancing Queen would complete my top 3.

The same could be said of Doop, Mr Blobby or Babycakes. :(

Doop!

I think Billie Jean is probably my favourite out of the 10 here also actually. Though, like you, I wouldn't rate it above an 8/10.

I think Don't Look Back In Anger is the best here - although it is not even the best Oasis single.

Tony - I cannot see/hear how it bears any resemblance to the syrup-fest that is the over-rated Imagine!

I'm guessing the list will go like this:

1 Someone Like You

2 Bohemian Rhapsody

3 Imagine

4 Hey Jude

5 Dancing Queen

6 Billie Jean

7 I Will Always Love You

8 Can't Get you Out of My head

9 Don't Look Back In Anger

10 Baby One More Time

Dancing Queen is good but when we're talking about ABBA, 'good' just really isn't good enough, they have far far better.

Out of Adele's big 3 from 21, I've always found Someone Like You the weakest, it's nice but quite a non-event for me.

Britney and Kylie are both solid pop songs but again, not my favourite from the artists, although I think Baby One More Time is better than CGYOMH.

Contrary to a lot of these songs, Billie Jean is one of MJ's highlights, but even then it isn't the best. Imagine and Hey Jude I'm not a big fan of, Don't Look Back In Anger is fairly good although it's far from being the best Oasis single, and as much as I like I Will Always Love You, it's quite plain for Whitney, and she does have better.

That just leaves Bohemian Rhapsody, which is quite the classic. That gets my vote, but it's not overly far ahead of Britney, Oasis, Michael Jackson and Whitney, the remainder of my top 5.

There isn't anything I LOVE on that list if I'm honest, but Queen has the best one there.

My ranking;

1. Oasis - Don't Look Back In Anger (My second favourite Oasis song, after Live Forever, brilliant)

2. Britney Spears - Baby One More Time (a pop classic, slightly suprised to see it in the final shake up but it is incredibly iconic, shame The Corrs released Runaway on the same week [/stillbitter])

3. ABBA - Dancing Queen (not exactly their best but it's still genius pop, a fantastic melody)

4. Adele - Someone Like You (gorgeous ballad, sometimes simple songs are the most effective)

---------------

5. Kylie Minogue - Can't Get You Out Of My Head (really overrated in her back catalogue imo, but the production did sound incredibly fresh when it came out and I can see why it became so huge, especially with such an instant hook - it's far from my favourite Kylie single though)

6. John Lennon - Imagine (a classic, but I'd rarely listen to it out of choice)

7. The Beatles - Hey Jude (good but again, I prefer other Beatles tracks)

8. Michael Jackson - Billie Jean (I can see why people love it so much but I enjoy other MJ tracks far more)

---------------

9. Whitney Houston - I Will Always Love You (Whitney has far far better, not a fan)

10. Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody (can't stand it, never have been able to...)

None of these songs are amongst my personal all time favourites though if I'm honest...

Tony - I cannot see/hear how it bears any resemblance to the syrup-fest that is the over-rated Imagine!

the opening bars in both are very similar.

I just hope that loony britney and kylie fans dont ruin this rate!!

Does anyone know if its repeated anytime this week on itv2 or anything?

1 Michael Jackson - Billie Jean Michael and Prince changed the pop landscape in the 80s and this was the biggest single from the biggest album in the world ever nuff said.

Not the best list imo, suprised they haven't put Umbrella in there while they are at it
