July 11, 201213 yr Great to hear Florence + The Machine & Calvin Harris at #1 in the chart update  Most unexpected #1 of the year, as much as I love 'Payphone' it's had its turn so I'm on TEAM FLORENCE!
July 11, 201213 yr Ouch at Cheryl's 'A Million Lights' chart run: [2-3-9-32] :o That's not her run at all? She's gone 2-6-16 so far

July 11, 201213 yr Midweek Charts: Florence eyeing first singles chart-topper 16:15 | Wednesday July 11, 2012 By Paul Williams Florence + The Machine could be heading to the top of the UK singles chart for the first time this weekend after opening up a narrow lead over Maroon 5. The Island act’s new single Spectrum, which was 104th on last Sunday’s chart, currently commands a lead of around 3,000 sales over Maroon 5’s A&M/Octone/Polydor track Payphone, according to the Official Charts Company. Florence’s highest chart peak on the countdown up tol now is two, achieved in 2010 with the Dizzee Rascal collaboration You Got The Dirtee Love, while individually the act’s peak is five, achieved with You Got The Love the year before. Florence heads what is otherwise another fairly quiet week for the singles market with most of last week’s Top 10 shuffling around. As Payphone featuring Wiz Khalifa dips 1-2, although with every chance of regaining its lead by the end of the week, fellow Interscope/Polydor release This Is Love by will.i.am featuring Eva Simons holds at three, RCA’s Chris Brown drops 2-4 with Don’t Wake Me Up and Warner Bros’s Stooshe remain at five with Black Heart. At this stage of the week, Flo Rida’s Atlantic single Whistle is down 4-6 and Asylum/Black Butter’s Rudimental with Feel The Love featuring John Newman drops 6-7, while Virgin’s Katy Perry progresses 9-8 with Wide Awake and the Parlophone-issued Princess Of China by Coldplay and Rihanna drops 8-9. Cash Money/Island’s Nicki Minaj is shaping up for a third UK Top 10 in her own right with Pound The Alarm climbing 16-10 with sales up 75%, while RCA act Adam Lambert is showing up as a new entry currently at 13 with Never Close Our Eyes. The only other brand new entry among the Top 40 sellers at this stage is Columbia act The Vaccines’ No Hope at 30. Lambert’s second album is one of six brand new releases among the Top 10 artist sellers at this point in the week. His former Billboard 200 chart-topper Trespassing is currently ranked seventh, while Ugly Truth/RCA’s Newton Faulkner leads the market with his brand new third album Write In On Your Skin. His debut Hand Build By Robots topped the chart in 2007, while 209’s Rebuilt By Humans reached number three. Faulkner leads an all top three of new entries with the first album from BBC Sound of 2012 nominee and Warner act Lianne Le Havas’s first album Is Your Love Big Enough second and The View’s first Cooking Vinyl album Cheeky For A Reason third. Their last album Bread And Circuses, released by 1965/Columbia, reached number 14 last year. Def Jam/Mercury’s introductory Frank Ocean album Channel Orange is showing up as a new entry at six, while veteran Canadian rock band Rush’s new Roadrunner album Clockwork Angels is new at 10. It debuted and peaked at two last month on the Billboard 200 chart. Completing the current Top 10 sellers, Maroon 5 dip 2-4 with Overexposed, Chris Brown tumbles 1-5 with Fortune, Asylum/Atlantic’s Ed Sheeran is down 4-8 with + and Emeli Sande’s Virgin album Our Version Of Events falls 5-9. Outselling all artist albums at the moment is Now That’s What I Call A No 1, the new EMI TV/UMTV compilation issued this week to coincide with an ITV1 series celebrating 60 years of the UK singles chart.
July 11, 201213 yr Florence at #1 yes! :D  First #1, a fifth single from her album  Thanks Calvin!
July 11, 201213 yr That's not her run at all? She's gone 2-6-16 so far  I swear it's 2-6-16- and today's midweeks of 32? Yes, sorry that's my fault. I didn't see the date at the top and thought the #9 was Sunday's position but it was the Wednesday before  I don't know if 2-6-16-32 is any better though
July 11, 201213 yr Fantastic that Florence + the Machine are getting closer and closer to their first number one! Must be the first 5th single from an album to debut within the Top 100 at number one! :cheer: Great to see StooShe continuing to have a steady chart run and Nicki Minaj in the Top 10. Amazed to see Lady Antebellum still[/b] in the Top 30, it must reach the Top 20 some time!! Sexy and I Know It can drop out of the Top 40, thank you very much! Hope that Linkin Park can stabilise, although I’m not surprised it’s plummeting. Nice to see Noel Gallagher back in the Top 20, but I hope Paloma Faith can climb in too. Great re-entries for Lady Antebellum, Florence + the Machine and Alabama Shakes.
July 11, 201213 yr Fantastic that Florence + the Machine are getting closer and closer to their first number one! Must be the first 5th single from an album to debut within the Top 100 at number one! :cheer: If I recall correctly, I believe Daniel Bedingfield also did this with "Never Leave Your Side" in 2003.
July 11, 201213 yr Author Has there ever been a remix track at #1, at the moment I can't even recall one.
July 11, 201213 yr Has there ever been a remix track at #1, at the moment I can't even recall one. Tori Amos Professional Widow?

Must be the first 5th single from an album to debut within the Top 100 at number one! :cheer: To be fair, that is a rather specific category... :P She debuted very close to the T100 though, at #104 (~2.5k). July 11, 201213 yr It's much, much more difficult for post-album singles to debut at #1 in the download era than in the physical era - in fact I'm not sure it's ever been done in the download era, let alone with the third post-album single! (Spectrum is cheating a bit by getting the majority of its sales from a remix of course but it's still unusual that the hype about the remix wasn't enough for it to chart in at least the top 100 on sales of the original version (see Gettin' Over You), although it was close). -x- Rambling-ish commentary time: 3k lead for both of the #1s at this stage - that's decent enough for Florence + The Machine and they should still be pulling away at this stage, but it's not far enough ahead for them to be completely safe if Maroon 5 re-overtake at the weekend. This could be a nailbiter. Severe :manson:s may be necessary this Sunday. Sales are very low at the top for albums anyway so 3k lead should mean Newton is fairly secure at #1, I'd absolutely love if Lianne could scrape a #1 album with no hit singles though  Looks like the info on Adam was wrong yesterday and it was indeed The View at #3. How bizarre - surely there's even less 'hype' about them now than when 'Bread And Circuses' bombed in at #14 last year? (It's possible this new one could be on for a lower sales debut though I guess, similar to Joe Bonamassa selling less in the first week of 'Driving Towards The Daylight' than one of his 2011 albums which debuted at #12). 'I Can Only Imagine' at #23  Top 20 by Sunday hopefully, looking likely to be another top 10 hit after all - the video release has really turned this around after it was failing to even go top 100 on iTunes before it! The Vaccines could hold onto the top 40 if they're #30 today, as they're still climbing on iTunes and are currently just outside the top 40. Good for them and this has ended up doing a fair bit better than I thought it would, but it's still a really average song. Frank Ocean already #6 and I think he's on download only? He could have been contending for #1 had he done a proper full release this week :o Really pleased to see him having success, hopefully 'Thinkin Bout You' can give him another top 40 hit as well. Were Rush download-only before when they flopped in at #76? Bizarre to see them suddenly at #10. Tori Amos Professional Widow? Also Cornershop 'Brimful Of Asha' and Elvis/JXL 'A Little Less Conversation'. Edited July 11, 201213 yr by Bré
July 11, 201213 yr Author Thanks, its been ages since we had a remix track at #1, forgotten about the Elvis and Tori Amos tracks Professional Widow I truly love  , and the Cornershop track escaped me.
July 11, 201213 yr Great to see Florence at number 1, I don't think she's totally safe though as Payphone seems to be catching up on Itunes :( Sexy & I Know It back already?! and just when I thought it was finally dying :drama:
July 11, 201213 yr So, because it's a remix, will Calvin be officially credited on 'Spectrum'? No. It's still credited to just 'Florence + The Machine'.
