The synths, the marching instrumental, it's just a perfect song, I mean, even I LOVE it, it's always surprised me that you don't love it, Bré, as I thought it would be exactly the sort of thing you like.

So overrated that even saying it's overrated gets this reaction! Fun.

(I'm clearly the only person who thinks that here though so I'll shush now).

I agree

It is good but I don't believe it should be this high

Frankly I'd MUCH rather 'Rebellion' and 'Midnight City' if it means a break from the usual Britney/Girls Aloud/Gaga/Rihanna stranglehold.
I do enjoy 'Midnight City' but I have to admit I've never loved it like most people seem to, though I can understand why it's so popular. But for me, M83's previous album was packed with superior songs.

12 - 16 Beyonce ft. Jay-Z 'Crazy In Love' 300 points (20 - 17 - 29 - 24 - 15 - 16 - 12)

11 - 05 Gwen Stefani 'What You Waiting For?' 313 points (29 - 38 - 11 - 153 - 33 - 05 - 11)

Just outside the top 10 are two more older songs, one which reaches a new peak, and one which falls from its peak. Beyonce's debut solo hit 'Crazy In Love' was a bigger hit than anything she had with Destiny's Child, and something which hasn't been matched since, certainly not in terms of longevity, quality and appreciation. It has one of the most consistent runs of any song in this competition, making the top 30 every year but never quite making the top 10 despite 5 top 20 finishes. It has one more chance next year, it's certainly possible it could finally make it.

Along with it is 'What You Waiting For?', another debut solo single from a female who used to be in a band, though the songs and artists are quite different from each other. Like 'Crazy In Love' for Beyonce, Gwen hasn't came close to matching what she did with 'What You Waiting For?'. Although these two finished in the positions outside the top 10, the gaps mean they're quite far away. The 13 point gap between them is the largest between two songs out of the top 10, whilst Gwen finished 24 points off 10th, only the top 3 contains bigger gaps.

10 - NE Adele - 'Someone Like You' 337pts (10)

http://www.rochellearthurs.com/uploads/images/Gallery/Blog-pictures/ADELE-brits-page-jpg_235100.jpg

Starting off the top 10, we have the second-highest new entry, and currently highest selling song of the decade, Someone Like You, and quite obviously if you've never heard it you've been living under a very large rock for the last year and a half. Successful songs naturally do well on here, so it's not really a surprise seeing it up so high, ever since it left most of the country in tears at the BRITS 2k11 version. I've made no secret that I find it massively bland compared to the other two Adele singles from 21, but what works for some people doesn't work for others - so apologies to the fanz that I'm writing this - I know there are loads of people that love it. It's quite comfortably in the top ten ahead of Gwen, and will probably be a staple around this region for the next few years at least.

I'm pleased It's below Rolling In The Deep... It's infinitely better in my view.

Bre/Eyes - can you do 9-6 between you and I'll do the top 5 after work tomorrow.

9 [13] Nelly Furtado - Say It Right 339pts [2-8-39-13-9]

I'm not averse to a bit of Nelly Furtado ('Big Hoops (Bigger The Better)' was even a #1 on my personal chart earlier this year) but 'Say It Right' is a bit overrated in my opinion. It beats 'Maneater' (which is at #39) by some distance to be the Canadian singer's highest entry in this countdown and it climbs back four places from last year to return to the top 10 at #9. It came second in its first round and remained top 10 the following year but this is the first time since that it's been back up there.

8 [NE] Adele - Rolling In The Deep 345pts [8]

Adele absolutely dominated the charts last year - that has been documented over and over on BuzzJack so I won't go over it all again of course. With that domination and the fact she's a pretty BuzzJack-friendly artist, it's perhaps a bit of a shock that she hasn't dominated this year's Record of the Decade more than she has. She is one of two artists to have two songs in the top 10 - the other has both entries still to come - which is still a pretty good showing but 'Rolling In The Deep', her US breakthrough hit and the lead single to her world-conquering '21' album, is her highest entry here, going straight in at #8. Perhaps it'll improve in coming years.

7 - 20 Robyn - 'Dancing On My Own' 347pts (20 - 7)

http://www.reallyrich.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/05/robyn-dancing-on-my-own.gif

Robyn is one Buzzjack idol that isn't actually that successful. Ok, she has reasonably-sized hits every now and then, but when Dancing On My Own barely scraped top 10 2 years ago, that was quite a success. And it's a song that really gets better with age for me at least, I didn't think a whole lot of it in 2010 but now... it's wondrous. Dancing On My Own is quite easily the least well known song in terms of the public eye out of the top 10 - it's one we're keeping to ourselves, and I don't think many would argue with that. It leaps 13 places this year into the top 10, becoming the last new entry to the top 10; all of the top 6 were in the top 10 last year.

Dancing On My Own is without a doubt one of my favourite songs EVER. Such a sublime, heartfelt beauty

And it's not completely unknown. Whenever I hark on about it on Twitter I get loads of replies back from people saying they love it too.

So happy to see the sublime Dancing On My Own in the top 10.

Good to see it's actually gaining in popularity also rather than just fading from everyone's memory.

I can't even listen to Adele these days. Maybe in a couple of years when I get past the overexposure ...

Didn't see the fuss with 'Dancing On My Own' when it was first released, but it's really grown on me since, beautiful song!

I'm fully supporting a 'Toxic' win!

6 [6] Madonna - Hung Up 355pts [21-27-17-82-26-6-6]

http://www.rsafilms.com/thumbs/835/madonna-hung-up.jpg

Non-movers aren't very common in this game - BuzzJack's memberbase is constantly changing so certain styles of music get more and less popular over time and it's difficult for a song to keep the exact same level of popularity after a year. Nonetheless, we hit the third non-mover in the top 200 (the others being 'Try Sleeping With A Broken Heart' at #33 and 'Freak Like Me' at #14) in the form of Madonna's second best song 'Hung Up' which holds at its peak of #6. Considering Madonna's icon status on BuzzJack you would expect this song to have done much better in the past, but before last year it never went higher than #17 and was at one point, three years ago, not even top 80.

05 - 03 Killers 'Mr Brightside' 378 points (X - 101 - 25 - 13 - 05 - 03 - 05)

http://images2.fanpop.com/images/photos/3400000/The-Killers-Mr-Brightside-the-killers-3419131-320-240.jpg

The top 6 is incredibly static this year with 5 of the top 6 remaining from last year, and the only climber into it has been in the top 6 four times previously. This means that The Killers spend a third consecutive year in the top 5, falling two places to the position it occupied in 2010. It does, however, mean that its impressive run of climbing every single year doesn't continue. It does however once again reign as the top song that's not by a female solo artist, the appearance of Jay-Z on 'Crazy In Love' aside it's the only song in the top dozen that isn't by a solo artist. 'Mr Brightside' has gone on to become something of a modern classic and 8 years on can still fill dancefloors in various types of clubs/nights/agegroups. That's despite it not having much success at all upon release, spending a solitary week at the bottom of the UK top 10 before plummeting out of the chart almost as quickly as it arrived.

It had always been a favourite of mine with 7 weeks at #1 in my personal chart upon release and in my top 10 of the decade, but it has worn thin over the last 12 months. I think I've now heard it that much that it's started to irritate a bit, a usual shoe-in for a top 5 final placing I only gave it 11 points this time around. If I'm not alone then it probably explains the small fall.

'Mr. Brightside' still, for me, continues to be a song that never gets any less good no matter how many times I hear it.

04 - 09 Britney Spears 'Toxic' 381 points (06 - 06 - 01 - 04 - 08 - 09 - 04)

http://superstarmagazine.com/images/uploads/2011/12/britneyspears-toxic2.png

A former winner now, equalling its second best position of 4th place. It's had a remarkable run here finishing in the top 10 in every single year, and despite looking like it could fall out after dipping to the bottom if it in the last two years it's been able to rebound this time around. She's always been fairly popular on this site but 'Toxic' is the one song that's loved more than the rest, with fans of all types of music seemingly recognising this as an excellent pop song.
