The song is urban through and through. And the same goes for most things Tulisa has ever done, Young was just a one-off.

Even I wouldn't describe 'Live It Up' as urban, though it is rather closer than 'Young' was.

The song is definitely urban. I listen to that sort of music all the time, it sounds just like many other urban songs. Just because Tulisa is white it doesn't mean she can't do urban songs.

Whate does being white have to do with it, anyway? No-one claims that Eminem's songs aren't urban...

A bit worried for Taylor with her releasing so soon in the UK and not knowing whether it can work for her but if Capital already supporting it and lots of hype, hopefully it can still do great.

Looks like Bom Bom is going all the way, like father like son getting a #1, Aaron his Trevor Horn's son who had a #1 hit with the Buggles.

Loads of Em's songs I've seen people say aren't urban, like The Real Slim Shady, Without Me, Smack That, Not Afraid, etc. Even though they are imo.

Read up about the tempo, percussion patterns, instrumentation, lyrical content, etc. of US urban music, and read up about Tulisa, Tyga and Rico Love (the producer) and their musical backgrounds and check out the rest of their discographies, and then come back and tell me specifically how/why the song ins't urban. And what changes do you think would be needed to be made to the song to make it so?

I can't understand why 3 or 4 of you think it's not urban, so maybe if you give me the reasons why (rather than just all saying "haha it isn't urban lol") I might understand. Is it the tempo? The drum patterns? Sorry that I'm going on about this so much btw, it's just something I'm really interested in.

Bom Bom top 10 already? <_<

Bom Bom I think is going to be massive. It's just a shame it didn't really start getting popular until about a month ago, I think it's one of those songs that would've been best if it started getting popular here in the Spring, so that it can be massive through the entire summer, kind of like how Stereo Love was in 2010.

Come on Devlin!!! :cheer: And I thought Summer Paradise might've done a bit better than this, but it's still early days.

Urban music by definition originates from the streets and deals with issues of urbanisation and city life. Live it Up fits that perfectly imo and Tulisa is definitely an urban artist who also dabbles in Dance music through Young. NDubz were versatile too

After listening to it again, I agree that the beat/instrumental or whatever you want to call it is most definitely urban, I just think that the lyrics and the way she sings it isn't really urban (and the fact that the chorus sounds like Start Without You).

How come Bloc Party's album is already released digitally? It says it was released on the

17th but that would mean some of its sales would be for the week ending yesterday (I think I'm correct there).

Yeah, that's true. That's also why UK garage, grime, dubstep, etc. are considered urban in the UK, even though they're musically very different to R&B.

Thanks :). Yeah, I can understand that tbh. I reckon if you sped up her vocals a lot you could easily fit them onto on a dance-pop song.

Taylor now #28 with Devlin at #24

Two awful new entries in the top 40 with Sam & the Womp and Taylor Swift. Though I'd rather have Taylor at No. 1 than one of the worst songs of all time!

Normally with that list of new entries I'd be backing Simple Plan to the hilt but I really do not get "Summer Paradise". It just comes across as a cheap stab at getting a hit, but doesn't have a chorus anywhere near as catchy as many of their songs (basically the criticism that a few people made of "Princess of China"). Why couldn't it be "Can't Keep My Hands Off You" doing well?

Oh and the album version with K'naan is a lot better:

This is a bit silly, but I kind of have a soft spot for this song, since I went on holiday to the US a couple of years ago, and this is very reminiscent of a lot of the songs I was hearing over there. So it brings back memories for me, even though it's pretty recent.

"Hey, Soul Sister" et al? I can kind of get that, I'm just not feeling "Summer Paradise" at all. I'm not usually one to get snooty about bands "selling out" but compare something like "Drops of Jupiter" to some of Simple Plan's earlier stuff and you see what I mean.
