I was wondering who are the acts with most million selling Albums and Singles in the UK?

 

Just as I was looking at Rih's numbers I saw that Talk That Talk is likely to become her 3rd album to reach that milestone. And knowing that she has 3 more singles to achieve that number of sales. I was wondering who are the acts with most Million selling albums and most Million selling singles.

Singles wise I think it might actually be Rihanna with the most million selling singles, at least she's certainly the only female to score three - with Love The Way You Lie, Only Girl (In The World) and We Found Love! Celine Dion has two (Think Twice and My Heart Will Go On) and I don't think any other female has more than one million seller.

Million selling singles are in the sales vault, as for albums well that is somewhat of a mystery as they sell under the radar for years. In the sales vault there are threads for the top 100 best selling albums of the 80s, 90s, and 00s which should make a list doable.

So yes... Rihanna is the female with most million sellers and The beatles are the act with most Million sellers overall with 5: She Loves You, I want to hold your hand, Cant Buy Me Love, I Feel Fine and Daytripper.

 

What I dont know is if John Lennon is the lead in this category as he also has a million seller on his own (Imagine).

 

So It would be:

 

1- John Lennon (6)

2- The Beatles (5)

3- Rihanna (3)

4- Celine Dion (2)

Million-selling albums change it completely since they're far more common that with singles. Oasis had one single that limped past a million yet have at least four (possibly six if Heathen Chemistry and Don't Believe The Truth made it, they're both 3x platinum so can't be far off) million-selling albums.

 

John Lennon would still most likely top a combined list although lest we forget Macca has his own post-Beatles million seller in "Mull of Kintyre" (vom) as well so it'd depend on their album sales.

Personally, I do not include a solo artist's work with a former band when compiling their hits. I'm not sure why I do this.

Boney M have two million selling singles and so do Frankie Goes to Hollywood and Spice Girls.

 

Adele can't be far off: SLY is well over but how much has RITD sold?

Leona can't be far off 2, or even 3, on singles with AMLT and Run.

Bad Romance is close to 1 million, which will join Poker Face and The Fame (Monster).

 

Born This Way (album) is very slowly climbing closer too, and should hopefully get there with the tour, promo and any new material.

They have no singles over the million marker, but Westlife do have 7 albums to have passed it:

You could well be right, I don't know how up to date those figures are :)

Leona can't be far off 2, or even 3, on singles with AMLT and Run.

 

Run should definitely pass the million mark some time in the near future. I think it could do it by 2015 at the latest. Possibly a lot earlier if her next album does well. It's selling between ~500-700/wk based on its itunes position and even more at times. I think the last figure for Run was that it was on ~720k or something. Hopefully we'll get an updated figure when Leona's next album drops. AMLT however, is far off the mark and won't reach it anytime soon. IIRC the last figure we had for it was ~880k. I don't see it in the top 1000 of itunes at all, except maybe when there's a bit of hype around Leona. Even then I don't see it crossing the million mark any time in the near future.

Spice Girls have sold 1.25m of 'Wannabe' and over 1.1m of '2 Become 1'.

 

pretty sure 'Say You'll Be There' isn't far off it either

 

Should they become relevant again (stadium tour, musical generating sales) 'Goodbye' and 'Spice Up Your Life' are in the late 800ks.

 

They also sold 3m copies of Spice in the UK, and around 1.8m copies of Spiceworld
