I love a fair few trashy films, but really?! It's not that I didn't enjoy it; that almost never happens; I just didn't understand it, so do educate me. There's reading between the lines, and then there's a plot that's so arbitrary it loses any intended meaning and is reduced down to some sort of black comedy. The ridiculous dialogue (and not in a positive sense - it's like Heathers gone wrong) actually became offputting too. I guess reasons why this would be your second favourite film of all time would be simply enjoying the trippy visuals or as a parody (I think) of teenage clichés. Am I missing something?

Oh christ, I always struggle trying to do this, but here goes (I don't think I could put them in order though):

1. Shawshank Redemption

2. Beetlejuice

3. Scream

4. Nightmare on Elm Street

5. A Beautiful Thing

6. Death At A Funeral (original UK version)

7. Forrest Gump

8. Jumpin Jack Flash

9. Labyrinth

10. Requiem For A Dream

11. Misery

12. The Matrix

13. Adventures In Babysitting (the best of 80's cheese)

14. Dirty Dancing

15. Lord of the Rings (all 3, I couldn't choose just one)

Martha Marcy May Marlene should be a lot higher on my list now (probably between Airplane! and Carrie), and Suspiria will now be higher into the top 10 (perhaps overtaking The Godfather). Two films that i have rediscovered, and have appreciated much more than before!

I can't rank the first three, urgh.

2001: A Space Odyssey

Enter The Void

Martyrs

4. Elephant

5. Sunshine

6. Mean Creek

7. Mysterious Skin

8. Shortbus

9. Les amours imaginaires

10. [REC]

11. Saw

12. 2.37

13. Heathers

14. Slumdog Millionaire

15. Millions

16. Calvaire

17. Chicken Run

18. Mean Girls

19. Finding Nemo

20. J'ai tué ma mère

Some of my favourite films (I can't rank them, I find it ridiculously hard!)

'(500) Days of Summer'

'Anchorman'

'Avengers Assemble'

'Batman: Dark Knight Trilogy'

'The Boy In Striped Pyjamas'

'Bronson'

'The Butterfly Effect'

'Carrie'

'Drive'

'Eden Lake'

---

'Final Destination' (1, 2 & 3)

'Finding Nemo'

'Inception'

'Kick Ass'

'Little Miss Sunshine'

'Martyrs'

'The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie'

'The Muppets Christmas Carol'

'The Orphanage'

'Paranormal Activity'

---

'[Rec]' (1 & 2)

'Saw'

'Se7en'

'Toy Story' (All 3)

'Up'

'Walk the Line'

'Wall E'

'Warrior'

'Wolf Creek'

'X Men: First Class'

That's all that comes to mind at the moment (and majority within the last 10 years - sorry :P)! I'm sure I've missed off loads though that deserve a mention. Will edit if I remember any! I could mention majority of Pixar's stuff. They crap all over Dreamworks! Oh and if I had to pick one from the list above, as my ultimate favourite ever film... I'd go with 'Finding Nemo'.

'Power Rangers' is there purely for nostalgic reasons. If I was to ever watch it now, I'd probably notice all the flaws with it, but from memory I love it as it was a massive part of my childhood. Pretty much the only film I'd ever watch!

'Martyrs'

Leave it as it is with Kubrick at the top :kink:

Good to see [REC] getting so much love. One of the best horrors i've seen in recent times!

I've forgotten to include 'Battle Royale'! That's bloody amazing. I still can't believe the author of 'The Hunger Games' when she said she had apparently never heard of 'Battle Royale' whilst writing THG...

She was clearly reading 'Battle Royale' and 'Twilight' together to mash them up! :drink: (You're all going to tell me that THG came before 'Twilight', aren't you?)

EDIT: Harve. 'Martyrs' is beautifully disturbing. Everything about it is so sick and twisted and just generally f***ed up, but it's still quite a beautiful film. (STRANGE I KNOW! - hopefully you get it though :P)

Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. I wouldn't condone violence if it's excessive and just for shock value without having any real meaning (Human Centipede HELLO), but the ending of Martyrs justifies it in this case. I found it to be quite triumphant / beautiful, yes.
